An actress running from her past finds escape with a man hiding from his future.
When someone wants to be lost, a home tucked among the Ten Thousand Islands off the Florida coast is a good place to live. A couple decent boats, and a deep knowledge of fishing and a man can get by without ever having to talk to another soul. It’s a nice enough existence, until the one person who ties him to the … to the world of the living, the reason he’s still among them even if only on the fringes, asks him for help.
Father Steady Capri knows quite a bit about helping others. But he is afraid Katie Quinn’s problems may be beyond his abilities. Katie is a world-famous actress with an all too familiar story. Fame seems to have driven her to self-destruct. Steady knows the true cause of her desire to end her life is buried too deeply for him to reach. But there is one person who still may be able to save her from herself.
He will show her an alternate escape, a way to write a new life. But Katie still must confront her past before she can find peace. Ultimately, he will need to leave his secluded home and sacrifice the serenity he’s found to help her. From the Florida coast, they will travel to the French countryside where they will discover the unwritten story of both their pasts and their future.

Charles Martin books always satisfy. He delves deep into his heroes, making you want to route for them.
Read anything by this author. He’s that good!
I’m a Charles Martin fan. His characters usually have impossibly easy access to the fastest boats, huge mansions, and a lifestyle way beyond the average person—all while working their way up from a hopelessly impoverished beginning. He writes it, and somehow it just works. Sometimes better than others. I was into this book until the priest started …
This was a unique story told in an interesting way; an enjoyable read. I wanted to give it a 4.7, but the rating above wouldn’t record partial stars for my review.
While the blurb was accurate, it in no way prepared me for the book. That’s not a reflection on the blurb, but rather recognition of the unique story and its development. The …
I absolutely loved this book. I felt the impact deep in my heart and I would recommend it to everyone!
I love the way Charles Martin writes – that being said, i was disappointed in how this book started, check to be sure Charles really wrote it and almost didn’t continue. But I continued and I am so glad I did. I cried buckets at the end. So glad I didn’t quit before it took off. Trust me, you will love it also.
I read this last year and I keep notes on the books I have and have read. This one I had a note by it very very good. I only do that on excellent books. This author is wonderful. I am trying to read all of his books and have my sister and daughter reading all of them too. He builds the characters that are believable.
Excellent! Charles Martin does not disappoint.
Loved it. Charles Martin is an artist with words!
This novel surprised me! It’s about facing your demons, your brokenness, your vulnerabilities and realizing we need one another in order to heal.
Intriguing, captivating. Enjoyed every minute of reading
I enjoy all his books.
Lost characters trying to avoid living. If you had the chance to “disappear “ permanently, would you? Could you? And if you did, how long would it last?
This book kept me guessing until the end when the full story of each of the characters is revealed. It’s not a love story in the true sense, but the two main characters (and the priest) eventually discover that love. The character of Fr. Steady knows much, but reveals little, until the end. There are some aspects of the story, especially when it …
Again Charles Martin delivers a fantastically beautiful, haunting story about a couple of over comers . Great story and characters…couldn’t put it down until I had finished it and still thinking about days later.
Probably would not recommend.
What can I say? Any book by Charles Martin is wonderful and this is no exception.
This is the perfect sort of book that leads me to ask, why are there only five stars available???
This story deserves at least 47 stars for the fascinating characters, absorbing storyline and the unexpected plot twists. Long after I finished reading I was still so caught up with the characters I wanted more. Their heartbreaking pasts and …
I discovered Charles Martin a little over a year ago and have loved each book I’ve read. His stories are unique, yet relatable. They provoke introspection. You can’t help but love the characters; they live with pain, tragedy, and unhealthy coping mechanisms, but the reader is drawn to feel all the emotion they experience with empathy as they work …
Charles Martin creates unusual, interesting characters and gradually reveals what has made them what they are — and who they are becoming. There are just two main characters who meet early in the story, introduced by a priest who has history with each of them. They wrestle with God and the events of their lives. I guess you could call it a clean …
