Framed for cattle rustling and horse theft by the corrupt banker who foreclosed on their employer’s ranch, Buck and Dobie find themselves out of work, out of cash, and out of luck. So, they decided to try and live up to their reputation as wanted men—an idea easier said than done. Buck Hawkins and Dobie Garrett are a pair of cowboys in the Texas Panhandle. They’re unlikely outlaws—until their … outlaws—until their ranch is stolen and the two cowhands framed for rustling and horse theft by a crooked banker.
Now with a price on their heads and hunted by the law, the two cowboys decide that if they have to ride the outlaw trail, they might as well be the best holdup artists in Texas. Problem is, they aren’t all that good at the trade.
Just when they thought it couldn’t get worse …
During a botched stage holdup, they meet Marylou Kowalski, who demands at the point of a derringer that Buck and Dobie kidnap her; she’s bored with her life and looking for excitement on the outlaw trail. Marylou convinces the two fugitives that the three of them can score the ultimate in revenge—holding up the crooked banker who posted reward flyers on the two cowboys.

Nice western. Plot was better than expected so probably will read more.
HORRIBLE BOOK… I BURNED IT THEN BOUGHT 7 MORE AND BURNED THOSE.
This book is a fun, easy western. Two ranch hands find themselves in a situation where they’re wanted by the law. They try living up to that rap by deciding to become bandits. In their attempts, they meet up with a “proper” lady who wants to join them and they can’t imagine a woman tagging along. She surprises them at every turn and helps land them a huge payday in a very clever way.
What a wonderful pair of idiots. Always waited to see what dumb thing they would do next. Kept me entertained.
I didn’t like it
Not the best story in the world, and these guys are LOSERS! — but somehow I finished the book.
Standard western.
Nothing overly wonderful about this book, but I just found it a fun, refreshing take on the western genre.
Just too slow.
I thought that this book was for the most part a good page turner, not very often that I get to recommend a good book to others.
These two fellows are very uneducated in trying to be outlaws. It’s like I Love Lucy but about men as unknowingly trying to be great at what they do. So funny.
Good cowboy yarn
I have been reading Louis L’Amour western novels which are very well researched and the stories are very interesting. By contrast, this story is more of “Apple Dumpling Gang” genre. A couple of buffoons stumble their way into a bunch of fixes that a very clever young lady saves them from repeatedly. There was nothing particularly believable going on. I would not recommend this book.
These guys are so funny. Hapless range riders, who have the durndest luck.
Another fun book, lots of chuckles here. Easy to identify with the characters. FUN read ..
This book was a fun story of two cowboys who try to be outlaws and a woman who shows them how it is done. The conversations and idioms of the two men are humorous, the plot enjoyable, characters laughable.
Not very good at all. If you are looking for a regular western don’t bother with this one.
Just a good old cowboy story
Amazing storyline, the true objective wasn’t known until the very end! loved the great characters and their backgrounds. Would definitely read it again!
I liked all of the twists and turns in the story and liked the ending to tie it all together
