-Raven Daughter is a completeed series of three books. I’m Jo and the death of my mother revealed a whole lot of secrets she was keeping. Like the fact that my sperm-donor father was a freaking angel who couldn’t keep it in his pants and slept with a woman he should never have been with. Or the fact I’m not mortal and would one day be a reaper of souls.Reaping souls, now there is something I … souls.
Reaping souls, now there is something I never dreamed I would do, but here I am doing just that. Or at least I was, until souls started becoming Lost. And that’s when things went south.
When I stupidly agreed to help discover what was causing the Lost without reading the fine print first. Now a lot of immortals would like to see me dead because of what I might become. To top it off, I ended up blood bound to a powerful half-demon who is supposed to be a reaper’s sworn enemy. Funny thing is he may be the only one I can trust.
Warning: Although this series deals with angels and demons, there is nothing religious within these books. Anyone looking for that will be disappointed.
**This book is part of a series and ends on a cliffhanger.

So good! A must read for PNR fans!
Just wow. this book completely shocked me. it was slow pace and yet still moving perfectly . Im used to fast pace but this was beautiful! I couldn’t stop reading!! it just kept getting deeper and more intriguing then ever! I love this unique world with angels, reapers, and demonborns. Josephine aka joe and Caius will have you hooked! Jo’s friends are awesome and everyone needs a bestie like James! Its a slow-burn romance since Jo and Caius are natural born enemies.. but jokes on everyone. Once you get enemies together… well things happen! Huge-big-life-changing-events-happen!!! Get ready, is about to get real!! On to the next book!
Loved this unusual story of demons, angels and reapers. When Jo and Victoria’s mother dies of cancer, the girls are trust into a world they didn’t know existed and the truth of their individual heritage is unearthed. As Victoria settles into her new life, Jo’s becomes increasingly complicated. As secrets are revealed, the dangers and problems grow, and when she is assigned a clandestine mission with a Demon-born, Jo’s life is turned upside down once again. This is a fast paced story with surprises at every turn. I loved the author refreshing take on demons and angles and especially how nothing is black and white with them. Jo is a character you easily become attached to, she is strong, snarky and capable, and the slow revealing of who she is and what abilities she has is great. Cauis is a complex hunk of a character that you can not help but fall for, who would have guessed that a demon could be so appealing! The duel narrators in the audiobook version did an excellent job of giving the characters individual voices and making you feel all the emotions and tension in the story. I loved the one sentence commentary by Cauis at the end of the chapters and the deep sexy voice Zackary Johnson uses for him makes your toes curl and leaves you wanting more. This is a great story and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The world building was excellent and character development was thorough and engaging. It’s a slow slow burn but lots of action to keep you satisfied while you wait. I look forward to the next book to see what happens in Between. Definitely recommend this one.
I have to say, this is my favorite series from A.D. Trosper. I have enjoyed other books by her and I’m always struck by the ease with which Ms. Trosper creates her worlds. Her language is unadorned and straightforward. The prose itself quickly slips into the background as the setting she creates fills your imagination. The world-within-worlds reality of Unveiled is truly fascinating and I can’t wait to see what further lands are explored in the sequel(s) to this book.
Moreover, Trosper manages to put us smack dab inside the heroine’s head and never lets it slip. Jo, short for Josephine, is an ordinary if extremely stubborn young woman who has never suspected anything supernatural about her life. But when her mother dies, she discovers just how wrong she was. From her unusual parentage to her decision to join the ranks of Reapers (guides who help souls to the appropriate afterlife), she has to embrace a new worldview which she does with a only a smidge of kicking and a good dollop of sarcastic snark. She is tough and vulnerable at the same time; you can’t help but love her. As for her counterpart and reluctant partner-in-crime Caius, he has a Darcy-like haughtiness that just begs for a comeuppance. The two mains play well off each other, with a great deal of enjoyable spark. I bet their relationship will bear further watching.
Overall, Trosper’s mix of angels, demons, and older gods is fun and fresh. If you love paranormal romances with a strong sense of snark and humanity, Unveiled should definitely be your next read.
4.5 stars! Though the story seemed to start off a bit rushed – there are a few big time jumps in the start of the book, in the end, the time that was jumped really was irrelevant and I understand why it was done. But in the moment, it was a bit jarring. However, the story, once it really got moving, was fantastic. Such an interesting world, with those with some amount of angel blood becoming guardians or reapers, and the other side of the world being the demonborn, and the nemesis of the angel born. Jo is such an interesting character. She finds her place as a reaper, makes good friends (seriously, the side characters in this book are fantastic, James especially), and is able to use her powers well. When she teams up with Caius to find out why so many souls are being lost, it’s a journey that changes everything, in more ways than one. A definite enemies to lovers story, it’s primarily told from Jo’s POV, but at the end of each chapter we get a glimpse, just a glimpse, into Caius’ thoughts. At first this is a bit jarring, but it works so well in giving us just enough of a view of the character that I was constantly looking forward to these little snippets. Because Jo is a true hybrid angel, she is hunted and feared by both sides, even she doesn’t know or understand the true level of her powers. And now Jo feels like she has put everyone she loves in danger, and is determined to make it right. The cliffhanger at the end is perfect for the story. By the end of the book, I was all in on this story. The tension, the action, the slow burn, it has it all, and left me wanting more.
This was my first A.D. Trosper’s book, and won’t be the last! This is the first book in the Raven Daughter Series, and a great introduction to this Series. Wow! I loved it! This is a fantastic story, beautifully written. Jo and Caius’s slow burn story is captivating, with Demons, Immortal, Reapers, Angels and Humans. The other characters are really interesting. The storyline is complex, fast-paced, action packed, and suspenseful. Now, I can’t wait for the next book in the Series. The narration is different. Suzanne T. Fortin did an amazing job with the narration, and all characters were easy to distinguish. Surprisingly, Zachary Johnson (Caius) only reads one sentence at the end of each chapter. I hope we will hear him more in the next books in the Series. I received this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily written this review.
Suzanne T Fortin is a brilliant narrator. Usually it take me a couple of chapters to settle with a narrator I have never listened to before, but not her. I relaxed into the book straight away and she did an excellent job with all the characters. The one bad point is there was nowhere near enough of Zachary Johnson….I could have listened to a lot more of him.
I really, really enjoyed the story, it’s a great idea and executed beautifully. The world is fabulous and the characters are great. I loved watching how Jo reacted to everything and how she changed throughout the book. And woaaaah Caius, loved him so much. I’m looking forward to the next book….
Unveiled is an interesting and entertaining paranormal story following a young adult female who just cannot seem to win a break. Death, murder attempts, lies upon lies, mystery, and secrets plague her for only one alleged reason…she was born. The characters are likable and relatable and the storyline is unique. My only grudge is the cliffhanger! The narrator did a great job! I prefer audiobook speed to be closer to how I read out loud, so a speed of 1.25x was to my liking. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I really loved this book, it had all the elements of a fantastic YA fantasy. Jo and Victoria are sisters who couldn’t be more different. When their mother dies, and they are forced to face the truth of their origins, they are brought into a world they never would’ve guessed existed. Within the world, they each have their own roles, one as a Reaper and one as a Guardian.
Jo was my favorite character. She was feisty and strong. She did not back down even when other characters did.
The thing that bothered me about this book though was the two six month jumps within the story. The first is when Jo is first brought into the Reaper world and the second is just after she begins reaping. I feel as if a lot of the story is lost for these jumps. These time periods would’ve shown some real character development and would’ve helped the reader to divulge into this book’s world more thoroughly. With the time skip, I felt as if there was a bit of an info dump to explain it all, and it’s a shame because the book has so much going for it.
Could not put this book down wonderful story can’t wait to read more of this authors books
