From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Penelope Douglas comes a companion novel to Bully. This is Jared’s story. Have you ever been so angry that hitting things felt good? Or numb to all emotions? The past few years have been like that for me. Traveling between fury and indifference with no stops in between. Some people hate me for it, while others are scared of me. But none of them … hate me for it, while others are scared of me. But none of them can hurt me, because I don’t care about anything or anyone.
Except Tatum.
I love her so much that I hate her. I hate that I can’t let her go. We used to be friends, but I found out that I couldn’t trust her—or anyone else. So I hurt her. I pushed her away. But I still need her. She centers me. Engaging her, challenging her, pushing her—it’s the one last part of me that feels anything anymore.
But then she went and screwed everything up. She left for a year and came back a different girl. Now, when I push, she pushes back…and I’m not sure either one of us will ever be the same.
Includes a teaser for RIVAL, the next unforgettable novel from Penelope Douglas….

This novel is entirely in Jared’s POV, whereas BULLY was in Tate’s POV. Now before you get all “ugh…this is just a retelling of BULLY”…STOP…yes, this book follows the same storyline, but it is still completely different. I know Penelope Douglas says in the beginning of this novel that it was never her intentions to write this book, but after her fans begged her to, she decided Jared’s side of the story was worth telling and I have to agree 100%! I feel UNTIL YOU was essential to Jared and Tate’s story. Without it, we would be left truly wondering how Jared felt and thought and with UNTIL YOU we get to dive into his mind and know all of the motivations behind his actions and words. Plus, we get to read about KC’s (Tate’s best friend) motivations behind befriending Jared. I will admit, after reading BULLY, I did NOT like KC, but now that I’ve read UNTIL YOU, I can understand her reasoning…even though I still don’t 100% agree with what she did, but I understand. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone that has read BULLY. I think it is important to read BULLY first and then UNTIL YOU to get the full effect of their story.
5 stars!
She looked like fire and sugar, and I wanted to gorge and burn at the same time.
Until You is the second book in the Fall Away series – a telling if you will, from Jared’s POV.
I would not call this book a re-telling as it is SO much more…and you should 100% read in order from the beginning.
Until You is so special. I fell hard for Jared in Bully, and being that this was his POV – I just fell deeper.
I DEVOURED this book.
I love that we got to see Tatum through his eyes.
“She saw me, the real me, and it was the only time I actually felt like I existed.”
And when she lit that shirt on fire in front of him – YESSS GIRL!!
When Tate was gone, Jared felt like he had nothing left. But Tate’s dad stepped in – He bailed him out of jail, gave him somewhere to stay, arranged a plea bargain, and showed him a love he hadn’t known – a father figure, someone to look up to. He showed Jared he wasn’t alone. I loved the relationship that they built.
“All that shit you feel, Jared – the frustration, the anger, the loss, whatever it is… It’s going to find a way out eventually, and you’re going to have to deal with it someday. But for now, just keep busy.”
To hear how Tate’s monologue had affected Jared and what he had felt was absolutely heart breaking. “Tate reminded me of how she healed me when she thought I’d healed her. We were both fighting for happiness. Fighting to just be kids when we met.”
Jared had spent so much of his life turning inside himself and pushing everything and everyone away. It was so hard for him to open up. But he finally does just that. This moody boy who never shows his feelings, who always wears his armor POURED his heart out – and shattered mine.
“I didn’t need her so much as she just became a part of me. I was wanted, loved, and accepted.”
This isn’t your average bully book – it’s got so much back story, depth, relatable characters, ANGST, and all the STEAM. I just love them so much!
“The lantern is you, Tate. The light.”
These were the first books I’ve read from Pen and since then she became my favorite author.
Jared and Tate’s story is a complete roller coaster but they really are perfect for each other.
Bully is Tate’s POV of their story and Until You is Jared’s POV. The best part is that Pen also gave us a lot of extra scenes in this second one so you really feel more connected to the story.
In “Bully” we had Tate’s view of the story, now is Jared’s turn to say his story.
I have to admit that in the beginning I wasn’t a big fan of Jared, but after reading his story I changed my mind. I still won’t support 100% his decisions and actions, but he is my baby and I’ll protect him at all costs.
While reading “Bully” I kept wishing that I could find his story, I wanted to know what happened, what could be so horrible, that he changed from that sweet boy to the a hole he was to Tate.
I loved that Penelope wrote this to be not just another relating of the original story, but wrote is as Jared’s journey and view of things. After reading it, I could understand him better, his actions and were he was coming emotionally. I don’t condone bullying, and I don’t try to find him excuses, all I’m saying is that I can understand why he believed that was his only option, and acted like that. It all makes sense now.
Reading Jared’s story, I was hilarious, and other times heartbreaking and painful. Nobody should be put through what Jared went throw. From what happened in his childhood, with his mother and her drinking problems, to his teen years and the hell his father put him and also his step brother Jax (which also will have a book in the “Fall Away” series).
Did all of this give him the right to bully Tate? No. But at least, we got the chance to know his feelings and what was going in his mind, and also we saw Jared show remorse for his actions and how hard he tried to earn back Tate’s trust, and also to prove those around him that he was honorable.
“Such a handful”
“Yesterday lasts forever.
Tomorrow comes never.
Until you.”
I had my doubts with this book, mainly because it is the same story as book one only it’s from Jared’s POV. I thought that it might be a bit boring since I’ve already read it, that there would be no surprises or nothing new to contribute. I couldn’t have been more off mark though.
Until You brought a completely new perspective and feeling as to what transpired between Jared and Tate. I wouldn’t say that it was like reading a completely new story since the main plot and incidents was exactly the same. However, Until You went even further than Bully, showing Jared’s struggles and giving us readers front row tickets to what went on in his head. I did not like Jared or really understand the reason as to why he bullied her when I read the first book and therefore felt their conclusion unsatisfying. While I still am not one hundred percent behind Jared and his reasoning, Until You sure got me a lot closer and I actually kind of like him better now.
Since I got to follow Jared I also got to see all the crap he had to go through with his dad and mom, so I could really feel for the guy in a way I couldn’t in Bully. It also helped a lot seeing how guilty he felt for how he treated Tate and how far he would go for her to make it all up to her. The depth to how much she meant to him went above and beyond what he showed in Bully. This especially was evident with the scenes in the story that wasn’t in the first book, that helped build a stronger relationship between them and even strengthening the storyline since it brought something new to the story. In a way Until You had more depth to it than book one because of this and I’m actually really impressed with how it managed to stand out on its own while still having the same storyline. It was truly a fresh breath of air.
As impressed as I am with the book however, I feel like there still were things left in the air. The issue with Jared’s father being one. I mean, I really liked the struggle Jared had of getting him out of his life and how Tate was a way to do that. But as soon as he and Tate got together his dad was MIA in both life and mind. For being such a burden in his life I expected something more out of Jared’s struggle with him. The same thing with K.C. She was a big catalyst in the whole drama between Jared and Tate, but over and done with in the story without any real conclusion. Although, I have to admit that my hate for her from book one has gone done just a smidge now that I know more about why she did what she did. I still don’t like her. At all. What she did was still real crappy, but after reading this book it was an easier pill to swallow.
In a way you could say that Until You took care of the left ends that Bully hadn’t solved and had left us readers unsatisfied with. It was the best way this book could have been written and, while I don’t necessarily agree with this, I do see why a lot of readers think this should have been the first book. It really did go beyond Bully in both depth and conclusion, finally leaving me satisfied with how it was concluded. The only thing I would have changed about the ending is the speech Jared made. That I felt was unnecessary since it tried to make the ending too perfect. Many may not agree with me on this, but it felt like it went overboard with Tate being so angry and him having to make such a big gesture over something so … not small per say, but their emotions about it felt off and over exaggerated for what it really was about. All in all though, I love happy endings and since I know there is a future book in the series featuring Jared and Tate I just have to keep reading.
In Bully, we read Tate’s side. So the inner workings of the torment coming from Jared towards her. I would advise to read Bully first before diving into this one since it is Jared’s pov.
In this one, Penelope wrote Jared’s tale. She takes you along on the ride that are the inner most thoughts and feelings of Jared. His story is heartbreaking to say the least, but once again Penelope wrote this with such a finesse that all I want to do is help this poor young man.
Jared has loved Tate for as long as he can remember. But with an alcoholic mother and a father from hell that he found out about – this young man has a ton on his plate and doesn’t know how to handle it all. When he feels like Tate has betrayed him, he feels like his world has fallen and the only way to retaliate is to torment her. But he never wanted to hurt her, he still loved her.
When these feelings start to bubble over, while his father is still forcing Jared to pay him to keep away from his brother, his mom that is never home – there Tate is, as she always has been. Will he be able to right all the wrongs he has committed and be able to handle their undying love for one another?
Penelope nailed it with showing Jared’s side. She showed the tormentor’s torment, pain, fear, and unrequited love in such a way that you connect with him on a deep level. This book will definitely stay on my mind for awhile and I do see myself going back and reading it again.
Loved Jared! It was great to read this story from his point of view.
I fell in love with Bully, and no surprise I fell even harder with Until You. I could not put this book down. I could read about Jared & Tate 4-ever. Jared’s POV was so worth the wait. I loved reading from his POV and what he went thru. I was so excited when I read about what Jared was telling the whole school, but mainly Tate about how he wasabd what he did and confessed his love in public. I can’t wait for more. I can’t wait to read Rival, bring on MADOC
Wow! This book was the same as book 1 “Bully” but in Jared’s point of view! I’m so glad this book was created because I really wanted to know what Jared was thinking through this whole story and we also get a little extra scene at the end! A scene that made me cry of course! Once again Penelope Douglas wrote a bomb ass book that rocked me! I love her writing and can’t wait to dive in to the next in this series!!
4.5 stars. I’ve had this book for so long because I just bought it with the rest of the series and didn’t even realize what I had with it being Jared’s POV of the first book. I was beyond thrilled when I did realize though! I forever more inhaled the first almost 70% of this and was forced to put it down under strong protest because, responsibilities. What can you do? Then I read the other 30% between baseball games while my son had a tournament. Like, he got done, I left him with his team and went to the car and read until the next game. I liked this better than Bully. But once the angst was done, I didn’t like it as much. Hence the 4.5 stars and not 5. This book did somewhat redeem a character that I didn’t care for in book one and it made me want to pick Madoc’s book up immediately! I can’t believe I’ve let this sit on my shelves, unread and not feeling the full weight of my love for so long.
This series!!! So good! I usually don’t like books that walk us thru the same events from another POV. BUT this one killed me. I fell in love with this couple, and learning his side was everything!
I loved that this is Jared’s story. I was desperate to get my hands on it. The best part was that this us not a word for word retelling of Bully. It has a few key situations from Jared’s point of view but it’s his story entirely. And what a story…
I can’t wait to see what is in store for everyone else.
This was Jared’s POV. I personally, love male pov books. I loved getting a more in-dept look of the who, what, where and why’s of it all. Oh all the feels I had with this book. I’m glad I went from the first one, right into this one. Even though Jared was a complete butt-hole to Tate, I just wanted to hug him! The dude went through some mess up stuff.
