Gen makes a very poor decision that leads to lots of tears and misunderstandings.
Heartwarming and emotionally thrilling roller-coaster journey from this sweet small-town. Really enjoyed this second chance with a small love triangle twist, was a great adventure filled with witty and engaging charters, heart racing twist and undeniable passion.
So, I probably enjoyed this book as much as I did because I love siblings’BFF stories and the fact that it was shorter in length. Gen and Wallace are good characters, but he’s a bit slow on the uptake sometimes, because he’s a caregiver of others…not looking out for himself. She’s honestly a little flighty…because who marries a guy that looks like your longtime crush, just because you think you can’t have the real thing? It was a different spin in the trope, so 3.75 from this reader.
I adore a second chance! And while this book isn’t one in the conventional sense, that’s the feeling it evokes. Wallace and Gen have never been a couple, but they’ve been “the one that got away” for almost as long as they’ve known each other. But, Wallace at least, has fought his feelings for all that time because he doesn’t want to jeopardize his friendship with her brother. I loved Gen’s strength and independence. I wasn’t entirely on board with some of her manipulative plans, but since most of them go sideways in some pretty spectacular ways, I can forgive them. Wallace is like the mountains: strong, steady, enduring, and about as quick to change. He’s felt responsible for the success and happiness of the people around him and so he’s carried a burden that wasn’t always his to own. When it comes to Gen and his own feelings, he has the emotional sensitivity of a root vegetable. He needed some sense knocked into him and I was glad to see it happen. I loved seeing their happy ending and I can’t wait to read what happens next.
I could feel the ache in Gen’s heart over the seemingly unrequited love she has for Wallace. His misplaced responsibilities get in the way and it takes some blunt truths to get through to his heart and make him take action. I adore Gen’s kindness and respect she shows to everyone she knows. Wallace is always in caretaker mode whether, it’s with his family, his friends or his crew. He is caring and considerate but, keeps himself at arm’s length…until Gen gets under his skin. Once again, the characters endear themselves and make it very difficult to put down the book.

Hmmmm….this book was kind of quirky, kind of fun, and kind of hmmmmm..
Genevieve has loved her older brother’s best friend forever. Wallace doesn’t, and has never has had, a clue. Who thinks marrying someone who LOOKS like your beloved is ever a good idea?? Gen!!
Wallace seemed to be clueless almost the whole book and Gen comes off as manipulative. They do get their HEA, but the story was a bit tedious.
The third book in the Starlight Hill series this time it is Wallace and Genevieve’s story and their ups and downs as they work toward their happy ending. I want to read more in this series. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
