Temporary … to forever? With a new book in her ever-popular Montgomery Brothers series, Samantha Chase brings us Megan’s story. It’s a fun read with sexy characters, fun family connections and lots of sass!
Workaholic Megan Montgomery isn’t known for throwing caution to the wind and just living all that often, but she managed to do just that a couple of years ago with the sexy groomsman at her cousins wedding. She’s been swamped with work ever since, but she hasn’t ever forgotten the things he made her feel … and it just so happens, she’s moving to his neck of the woods!
Physical therapist Alex Rebat adored his weekend with Megan and even tried to make a long-distance thing work between them for a short time afterwards, but he had to give up when it became obvious she just wasn’t that into him. He’s surprised to see her at her cousin’s house when he stops by … and even though he hasn’t found anyone quite like her in the last two years, he’s hesitant to trust her when she says she’s changed.
Sweet book and i liked it
5 Star Review of Until There Was Us (The Montgomery Brothers #7) by Samantha Chase
Having listened to several of the Montgomery Brothers and their cousins’ books I was anxious to read Megan Montgomery’s story.
When Megan met Alex Rebat at her cousins’ wedding she was living in New York. So what would the harm be if they had a little fun?
Fast forward 2 years and she still can’t stop thinking about that night. When she takes a job at her cousin’s company she has every intention of avoiding Alex at all costs.
Alex is determined to show Megan that
fate has brought them back together and that life is about taking chances.
Whenever I read or listen to a book in this series I get so involved in the Montgomery clan, to me I feel like I am coming home.
Although book 7, it can easily be read as a stand alone although I would suggest you go and look at books 1 through 6 as they are just as entertaining as Until There Was Us.
Megan has always struggled with the belief that she is not good enough and is always striving to do and be better. When Alex is rocked by an unexpected loss, tensions build.
This is a well written story of second chances, coming to terms with the past, of love and family which I loved from start to finish and couldn’t put down.
awesome
The characters were hard to relate to, Alex was too good and Meghan not very realistic. Story dragged on
This was my first foray into the Montgomery Brothers and I found the matchmaker grandparents highly amusing. Especially with the long game they had going for Alex and Megan.
Until There Was Us is a sweet second chance romance. It starts with a “bang” and becomes something more…
The feisty computer nerd and the physical therapist make a unique couple. It’s not entirely a picnic. Some ups downs and crazed wild animals are present in the pages of this book. So watch out for hiding workaholics, a rabid bear like creature, and the great outdoors (totally said in a spooky voice over).
This book was not only a second chance romance, but also a story of a woman trying to discover who she wants to be and the man who helps her find her way there.
I really enjoyed both characters and I loved watching Megan give herself permission to fall for Alex. Megan has spent her life at the office, always trying to prove herself to her father. This has left her little time for a social life – something that she feels she can’t afford to have if she is going to be taken seriously. When a new job opportunity arises and she decides to not only take a chance with a new position in a new state, but also to take a good look at her life and figure out what she wants, she knows she is making the right move. And knowing this is where Alex lives and she hasn’t been able to get him out of her head for the past two years…yeah, that may have been a bonus when it came to making her decision.
I was a bit annoyed with Megan at first with the way she treated Alex. I get that the Montgomery family is an “in your face” group and sometimes, for your own sanity, it’s best to keep things quiet, and, that she didn’t end things well with Alex two years prior, but she was a bit cold and callous to Alex and it really didn’t sit well with me. I get that she was making some major changes in her life and needed to focus on one thing at a time, but she could’ve handled him and the situation better. What I did love though was Alex and the fact that he refused to give up on her and the hope he had that they might explore what could happen between them. He didn’t push her, but I loved that he spent so much time helping her figure out who she was and what she might want. And then for her to be able to support Alex when he needed it, well…I just loved the way these two came together – and how Megan finally understood that love doesn’t follow a timeline, but operates on its own schedule and looks different for everyone.
One of the best things about a series is being able to have ongoing storylines and characters interwoven, and this book did a great job with that. From the matchmaking that has been going on, to the relationship between the cousins and the various members of the families, this book helped you catch up with some previous couples and also laid the groundwork for future stories in the series.
Overall this was a great read that had a good dose of the feels, just a little bit of angst, and whole lot of happy ever after. A must read for any true romantic!
I always love a good second chance romance and this book fit the bill. Although I doubted Alex and Megan would ever get where I wanted them to, they did and it was worth the slow burn it took to get there. I enjoy Ms. Chase’s take on the HEA and can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
Samantha Chase has brought us a another gripping slow burn romance with low angst, sweet and swooning mixed with some hot passion. I haven’t read any of the other books in the Montgomery Brothers series and I am kicking myself for not doing so.
This is Alex and Megan’s story and its quite the hot and sexy one. They had a hot weekend a few years prior but Megan is a workaholic and the relationship fizzled out. When she finally moves back closer to her family she ends up running into Alex. Is the passion and connection still there? Can Alex show her that there is more to life then work??
Even though i hadn’t read any others in the series i didn’t feel at a disadvantage as this could totally be read as a standalone. I will however be going to check out he rest of the books in the series but that’s only as i enjoyed this one and Samantha’s style of writing
I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is not the first book that I have read by Samantha Chase.
I thought that this book was well written with lots of details. It makes for a long read but the story moved along at a decent pace. I enjoyed reading about Megan and Alex.
5 So Much More Than Second Chance Stars!!!
With every Montgomery Brothers book that Ms. Chase writes the more I love this family. This book in particular for some reason resonated with me more than the others. That may have something to do with the fact that I was alternately, swooning, bawling my eyes out and laughing uproariously thanks to a camping trip that Alex and Megan took!
Alex and Megan met at a family wedding two years ago and Monica Montgomery was all about testing out her matchmaking skills….unfortunately, the first time around it didn’t stick, but when they find themselves in the same city thanks to a new job for Megan, everything changes.
I loved watching Megan grow both emotionally thanks to taking time to live life a little more than she had in the past. She realized that life is passing her by and if she wants a chance with Alex things have to change. As for our hero, he’s a man that has a demon living in his heart that as I mentioned above literally had me full out crying when it comes to a precipice.
There’s something about Alex and Megan that just makes sense and while they have to at times fight for what they want, in the end when it comes to a forever love, every battle scar, those we can see and especially those we don’t see, are worth it to have the kind of love they have.
This book is high on emotion and a story that will grab your heart, niggle it’s way in there and never leave!
Megan is a Montgomery and she is determined to prove that she has the smarts to be a success in business. Alex is a physiotherapist, and he is a special man who listens to his patients as well as working with them to heal their injuries. He two meet at her cousin Zach’s wedding and they have a wonderful weekend together. Neither tell anyone else and they try to have a long distance relationship. But with Megan determined to work to prove herself, she messes up and forgets a weekend plan to meet Alex. Obviously, the relationship fails.
Megan’s job has expired and she is offered an opportunity to move to work with Zach to implement a computer system in the company. The prospect of moving to the town where Alex lives is both scary and exciting. Especially when they “run into each other” and the sparks are still there. Megan still is driven to prove herself, but Alex shows her that there is much more to life than work. Megan eventually accepts that, and she shows Alex that he can’t heal everyone, but he can make a lot of lives better through his therapy skills.
I loved this book! The difficult process of trusting another person completely, learning how to be your true self, making new friends and moving on with life no matter what is thrown at you are all dealt with herein. Along the way, there’s spicy heat, anticipation, lots of laughter, tears and hugs. This is one you don’t want to miss!
Until There Was Us is the seventh book in the Montgomery Brothers series. I love these stories where they have a past together, even if just a brief weekend then come together again. Megan and Alex’s story kept me intrigued throughout. This is definitely one not to be missed.
Megan Montgomery and Alex Rebat gave into chemistry two years ago at her cousin, Zach’s wedding. They attempted a long distance relationship but that came to an abrupt halt when her workaholic ways got in the way.
What I really like about Alex and Megan’s relationship is that they help each other realize their own potential and limitations. To accept who they are and live life on their own terms.
Second Chance romance is one of my favorite genre to read and when you throw in a dog (Maylene) we have perfection.
Probably the best thing about reading a book by Samantha is that she has a way of writing that pulls you right into the story, like you’re a part of it.
Megan and Alex had had a wild weekend two years previous but things turned sour on them when trying to do the long distance relationship thing. Now Megan has taken a new job and is located in the same town and with the same friends/family as Alex. After clearing the air regarding their past decisions and actions, things take off pretty quickly for this couple. Megan struggles to live a life outside of work and Alex is determined to show her there is more than just a computer and software updates.
I enjoyed watching this couple together and with their friends. They were both adorable and equally likeable. The secondary characters were great and there were scenes with a baby and then a rabid animal that had me grinning wildly. The heat level is medium, in my opinion, but the chemistry is real as is the relationship between Megan and Alex.
This is a nice low angst read that didn’t really have any serious drama driving it but is perfect when you’re looking for something sweet and romantic to slip into. Altogether, a completely enjoyable book.
5 PERFECTLY WRITTEN STARS!! This is my favorite Montgomery book. I loved Megan and Alex’s story, it was heartfelt with all the feels. The story had me smiling and crying and flipping pages. Samantha Chase always gives us readers phenomenal stories that stick with you forever. I Highly recommend this book to any romance reader. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Until There Was Us is the seventh installment of The Montgomery Brothers by Samantha Chase. Be sure to have everything you need for a binge read beside you because you will not be putting this book down. The chemistry these characters share from the beginning is wonderful.
Megan Montgomery, an IT Tech, had a two night stand with Alex at her cousins wedding two years ago. When Megan moves to Portland from Albany to work for the family business, she realizes she will see Alex again. A man she has not forgotten.
Alex Rebat, a Physical Therapist, flew to New York for a weekend getaway with Megan, his two night stand. When Megan does not show, he returns home. Now Megan has moved back to town and just like Megan never forgot him, Alex has not forgotten her.
When things did not work out for Alex and Megan two years ago, they both hit a rut. Now that Megan is back in Portland, Alex sees his opportunity. However, Megan is not interested in dating anyone, including Alex. Alex tries to break down her walls little by little. Unfortunately, Megan is a workaholic so Alex has his work cut out for him.
Will Alex be able to tear down Megan’s walls?
While this book is part of a series it works well as a standalone. Of course, I always recommend reading from the beginning, but you will not be lost if you decide to jump in with Megan and Alex’s story first.
5 marvelous stars.

Beautiful!! This story gave me all the feels! It was sweet and sexy with realistic relationship problems that were very much relatable. I really enjoyed learning about Megan and Alex independently and as a couple. The love that develops between them is believable and sometimes broke myheart. BUT, there were a few LOL moments that were written in at just theright times to lighten some very intense moments. I did not want this story to end it was so good!!
Favorite Quotes:
Her phone beeped, and she let out a small whine. “That sounds like reality calling.”
…her mother was a firm believer in short engagements and long marriages. Basically she believed in fairy tales.
I wasn’t flirting with anyone. I was merely being polite to the woman who has the ability to spit on our food.
You realize that every time you talk about your trip into the woods, your encounter with what I’m guessing was a squirrel gets wilder and wilder right?
My Review:
I was stunned when I counted over thirty Samantha Chase books on my Read list at Goodreads. Although I regret to report that this one is undoubtedly the least entertaining and my least favorite of that collection. I struggled through most of the first half and had difficulty remaining engaged as the storyline seemed rather repetitive and progressed in extremely slow and tiny increments. Nor could I connect or work up much feeling for the unsympathetic main character of Megan; other than for her love of Double Stuffed Oreos she was rigid, cold, and difficult toward the delectable and perfect BBF of Alex, whom I totally adored. I seriously considered a DNF as over a hundred pages in – I couldn’t comprehend why a sexy, sweet, and romantic man such as Alex would be expending so much thought and effort to forge a connection with her, given her avoidant personality and chilly attitude. Alex had the patience of a saint while I wanted to give the prickly Megan several hard pinches and maybe even a few choice whacks to the head with my Kindle. But I stayed the course and was rewarded for my patience as the second half of the book marked a vast improvement over the Hallmark Channel blandness of first. Glimmers of amusing humor and steam helped to perk up my interest and once the frosty Megan began to thaw, I enjoyed their sweet romance.
UNTIL THERE WAS US is the seventh instalment in Samantha Chase’s contemporary adult THE MONTGOMERY BROTHERS romance series focusing on the Montgomery siblings and cousins. This is IT specialist Megan Montgomery, and physical therapist Alex Rebat’s story line. UNTIL THERE WAS US can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Alex and Megan) UNTIL THERE WAS US follows the second chance romance between IT specialist Megan Montgomery, and physical therapist Alex Rebat. Two years earlier, at her cousin Zach Montgomery’s wedding to Gabriella Martine, Megan met and spent a wild weekend with Zach’s friend and former physical therapist Alex Rebat. In the ensuing months Megan would begin to pull back from a possible long distance relationship only to break Alex’s heart when all was said and done. Fast forward to present day wherein Megan is offered the opportunity to work with her cousin in Portland knowing that the possibility of running into Alex was a guaranteed, sure thing. A weekend of painting for Alex, and a day out with the girls for Megan ends with the rekindling friendship between our story line couple. What ensues is the second chance romance between Megan and Alex, and the potential fall-out when Megan is offered the chance of a life-time, and Alex’s life spins out of control with the loss of someone close.
Megan Montgomery struggles with issues of low self-esteem; a workaholic trying to prove she is good enough or better than anyone expected. Alex Rebat battles the self-imposed guilt of sins from the past-a guilt that begins to fester with an unexpected loss.
The relationship between Megan and Alex is a rekindling friendship; a second chance at a happily ever after. The slow building romance finds Alex biding his time with the woman with whom he has fallen in love. The $ex scenes are mostly implied and fade to black.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Zach and Gabrielle (I’ll Be There #6), Ethan and Summer (Meant For You #5), as well as Megan’s meddling parents, aunts and uncles, and her long suffering brother Christian.
UNTIL THERE WAS US is a story of family and friendship; guilt and second chances; falling in love and letting go of the past. The premise is realistic and encouraging; the characters are sassy, spirited and energetic; the romance is tender and affectionate, UNTIL THERE WAS US is a passionate, touching and delightful story.
