This is probably the best one. This one is about a secret betrothal and an ornament. The woman who loves Lord Bentham must see this mystery through. As the woman who is the betrothed has asked Hannah for help to find the ornament. The plot will hold you as Hannah, Lord Bentham and Miss Lewisham try to find the documents and the ornament.
4.5 STARS
I purchased this as part of a novella bundle the author offered called LADIES, LOVE AND MYSTERIES. This has been my favorite of the series.
Many surprises in this story and twists. A lot happens in the end which felt somewhat rushed. The h overhears something and I felt the h/H blew it all out of proportion. Even after the H realizes he didn’t feel what he said, he kept apologizing – overkill. But, putting that aside I truly enjoyed all the twists and turns this mystery provided.
This is a stand alone story, but as with most series, many cross over character’s. This is a clean story, with only a few sweet kisses.
No cheating, no cliffhanger for our couple. Not really sure about the ending for one of the secondary character’s. HEA and a small amount of romance. I still don’t care how the “FRIENDS” do not call each other by their first names, even when alone. (ljb)
I am so hooked with this series. I love the writing style and how it captivates me and pulls me into the stories. Absolutely well written story with great storyline and plot. I like the action, mystery and characters. They are so different but in spite of that they draw towards each other. A sweet and romantic story that has a relationship that develops and blooms throughout the story.
I like that “The Shadows” are woman and that the male characters accepts that. They are free spirits and loved because of that.
Once again an enjoyable and entertaining read from the hand of Joyce Alec. Cannot wait for the next one.
” Unsuitable Betrothal Ladies, Love, and Mysteries” by Joyce Alec is a tale of one
Miss Hannah Seymour and one Lord Bentham who finds himself betrothed to a Miss Lewisham via a betrothal agreement orchestrated by his father …who inconveniently neglected to mention it to him. And now he needs to know the particulars concerning the matter…especially IF he can tastefully extract himself from it….due to the fact he now has feelings for one of the ‘Shadows’ ….a Miss Hannah Seymour. Can these two find their HEA…Can the ‘The Shadows’ help?!?
Read and See! Much enjoyed and Highly Recommended. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Copy of this book.

I think the Shadows are a delightful premise for exciting tales, and it didn’t hurt to have it all centered about a romance. Truly enjoyable read with great characters Miss Hannah and Lord Bentham. Plot seems familiar as I have read another story about an unknown bethrothal that emerges after the death of the Lord, but still interesting read.

Two people who know nothing of each other find that they are betrothed. Neither one wants the betrothed. Miss Lewisham is being pushed to marry Lord Bentham by her cruel uncle. Lord Bentham is in love with someone else.
The Shadows, a group of ladies are called upon to find out what is going on and solve the mystery.
There are many twists and turns in this story. Be sure to read it to see the outcome.

Nice Addition to Series
I have been reading Joyce Alec’s books for about a year now. She has written novellas in several different series. Most of them are romantic Regency suspense, though I think that some might have just straight-up romance. I don’t know if I’m feeling generous this morning, but I feel I can see a progression in this writer’s work. I know in the early days, I thought her writing felt a bit stiff and the dialogue felt stilted. I found this book had a much more natural-sounding dialogue, especially between the women of the Shadows. Because it felt so much better written, more tight and interesting, I enjoyed this book I think even more than the last. I find this set of books about the *Shadows* women to be fascinating ones. What a concept for a group of females: they help friends who come to them who need help figuring out a situation, and they also help each other find husbands! I love the interactions between the ladies. Of course, the romance aspect was fine as well. All in all, I did enjoy this book and would recommend it along with the other books in the series.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
This is not the first part that I have read of “the shadows” and just like its predecessors, it is great to read how 5 young women are releasing their intelligence on mysterious matters in historic England. In this case you follow Hannah Seymour who will be married off by her father if she does not find a man herself. She has lost her heart to George Bentham but hears him say that this season he is not looking for a wife to understand that he is bethroted a day later. However, George himself knows nothing! Up to “the shadows” to investigate what’s going on and to clear the path for Hannah and George.
The story is catchy and mysterious, unfortunately love did not come across clearly. All in all a nice story but personally I found the other parts more fun.
I give it 3.5 stars

I am always excited when another Joyce Alec book comes my way! Once again, she did not disappoint. This is such a delightful story filled with intrigue, mystery, and romance, I found myself immersed in the story until the very end. Her descriptions and writings style are so well put together that the story pulls you in and keeps you captivated until you finish. The heroine, Hannah, belongs to a group of intelligent ladies called “The Shadows” who like to solve mysteries and their adventures always make for some interesting stories! Lord Bentham comes to them for help when, after his father’s death, he discovers that he is mysteriosly betrothed to a Miss Sarah Lewisham. There’s plenty of action and drama as you follow their journey of solving the mystery and finding love along the way. The characters are wonderful and well defined with depth and personalities that give them an authentic quality. I highly recommend this book!

Everything you could want in a Regency Romance. Plenty of fast packed action! Lots of villains hiding in plain sight. Heroes that come to the rescue! Mysteries to solve. Who can you trust? What would you do if your parents betrothed you to someone a long time ago, and never told you? Would you give up your budding love for someone else, or feel obligated to marry the one your parents chose? Even if you don’t know them when you find out you are betrothed? Find out along with our wonderful characters as you delve into this incredible story! I highly recommend this book! Happy Reading!
Awesome story, once again “The Shadow” prevail. They are all very strong in their own ways. I really like that the women though lady-like have brains and can think for themselves. This story was very good, I liked that there wasn’t to much going on, just enough to keep you guessing. Good Job!

A romance surrounded in mystery and intrigue!
George finds out that his late father arranged a betrothed for him that he knew nothing about. He finds out about this arrangement from the lady’s uncle. The uncle, Mr. Greene, is a bit too demanding and makes George suspicious. George is not interested in marrying Miss Lewisham (Sarah)he has only recently discovered he is in love with Miss Seymour (Hannah), if she can forgive him fit his previous mistakes. Luckily, Miss Lewisham doesn’t want to marry George either!
George needs to find the paperwork that his father had for this agreement which he cannot seem to find any where. He also is to find an ornament that goes with the one Miss Lewisham has.
A love story mixed with a good mystery!
You will love the ending.
I always jump at the chance to read a Joyce Alec book. I will be honest I super glad they are on my kindle that thing needs to charge so I am forced to put it down with a paperback I would never get anything done. Hannah Seymour one of “The Shadows” now if you do not know about them, this group of ladies likes to solve mysteries and their tales make for an enjoyable read. They have set their sights on Lord Bentham. I love when characters are bright, intelligent, and likable and you have all of this in this gem of a story. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I didn’t like Viscount George Bentham dismissed Miss Hannah Seymour after he had made her think he had feelings for her and would be her opportunity to escape her devious father’s plans. To make matters worse he is secretly betroth to Miss Lewisham through a contract made by their fathers. He discovers that he really wants Hannah and needs to find a way to get out of the betrothal agreement. Hannah and the other Shadows travel to his country house party in search of clues that will lead them to the truth.
ONE EXHILARATING EXPERIENCE!!!
Outstanding! Joyce delivers one mind-bending, tantalizing, sensational, page flipping wonder, blowing this little fella into a tizzy with a stunning culmination, melding this baby together seamlessly. A churning vortex chocked full of inexplicable events, thrusting all of your emotions into play front and center. Sparks fly as drama, intrigue, uncertainty and mounting suspense spirals along with a boatload of doubt, makes for one mind-blowing adventure. Boasting well rounded scenario’s that punch dead center with such exuberance and style, thrusting this gem into the eye of the storm, blasting it into a tailspin with astonishing results. The characters are authentic and genuine with depth and qualities that blend into amazing personalities. The scenes are so vividly detailed it gives the illusion you were right there standing in the middle of ground zero with them. Fantastic job Joyce, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
Hannah has hopes for Lord Bentham to court her, but he does the opposite. Hannah is left with possibly having to wed her father’s choice. Lord Bentham discovers he is betrothed to someone else through his father’s agreement with Miss Lewisham’s father. Neither of the betrothed wants to wed the other, but what can they do? They separately turn to The Shadows for help. The story has some interesting twists but I found Lord Bentham to be something of a wuss, an honorable one but still… The story was good and well worth reading.
