I am actually a bit disappointed with this book. Lavinia Kent’s historical romances are such complete books. This book felt unfinished. I needed/wanted more of conclusion or perhaps an epilogue. I like the characters and I liked the age issue. Please Ms. Kent, put your historical romance book writing creation talent and apply it to your contemporary books.
I have read books by Lavinia Kent before, and I have enjoyed them. So, when I saw that Unsuitable was available for review on NetGalley, I decided to request it. The blurb had caught my attention. A cougar romance? I’ll read it. To say I was disappointed was an understatement.
Unsuitable’s plot was almost non-existent. But it had promise. If the plot had been built up more than I would have liked the book more.
I did like the main characters. They started as one dimensional and did flesh out. But, they still felt flat and I had a hard time connecting with them.
The characters had insane chemistry and sexual tension. The sex scene were hot. Loved it. I also loved that Jordan was a cougar who was coming into her own in this book. She was rediscovering her sexuality after her husband had passed. Clay was on fire has someone who was going to have her no matter what.
The end of the book was confusing. I couldn’t tell if they ended up together in a relationship or if they were going to continue having a sex only relationship.
I absolutely love that the main female characters last name is Robinson!!!! Jordan is the older woman, and Clay is the younger man! This was a very steamy read as you know and love from Ms. Kent. A great escape from any doldrum day!
Unsuitable by Lavinia Kent was a sexy and steamy older woman/younger man romance. Jordan Robinson married a man she loved, but he was older. She knew people would talk, but now that she is a widow, she leads a quiet life. Then Clay enters her life, and everything changes. She does not want any more gossip, but he makes her feels things she never did before. Can she let him in, or will she walk away? A hot and steamy story with lots of chemistry. I am excited to read more in this series.
Happy reading!
Clay finally gets his fantasy fulfilled when he gets Jordan in his bed. She is still fragile from the death of her husband and the gossip she has endured. Being together is a lesson in learning to love herself and living her fullest life. Filled with steamy scenes and a very hunky guy
When I think of author Lavinia Kent, I always think of historical romance. So, when the opportunity to read and review UNSUITABLE came along, I was intrigued, and quick to jump at the chance.
Firstly, I have to say, this book is about as far from historical romance as it could be. I would describe UNSUITABLE as contemporary erotic romance, and possibly even steamier than I was anticipating. Because, let’s face it, a book with an older heroine and a younger man, both of them successful and attractive, is bound to have those moments, and plenty of them, if it’s well done. And UNSUITABLE has them in spades, making for a sophisticated and polished read that I very much enjoyed.
This is definitely not the typical HEA, but a HFN works just fine for me sometimes, and Lavinia does a lovely job of giving readers just that. I could understand both Jordan’s and Clay’s points of view, the things that drew them to each other, and the very real differences between them. It was nice to read a book that started out going one direction, but didn’t settle in the expected way, and I would really like to see more of these characters and how they’ve navigated their relationship as the series progresses.
A solid 4-star read for me, UNSUITABLE is one book that I’m glad that I took the chance on. I will definitely be on the lookout for future additions to this series.
Unsuitable is well-written with good pacing and flow. However, if you’re looking for feels, this one doesn’t quite deliver. Jordan and Clay have good sexual chemistry, and there is plenty of time spent between the sheets, which doesn’t leave a lot of time for actual romance. The story isn’t the typical cougar romance, which is refreshing. Jordan isn’t out looking for a younger man, and she definitely doesn’t want to be the topic of gossip. In fact, she comes across as the more innocent of the pair, especially once Clay’s history is revealed. There are a couple of scenes that were a little over the top, most notably, Clay and Jordan’s first meeting in the elevator, but unbelievable or not, it was certainly sexy. So, if nothing else, this one is great for a bit of escapism. In the end, I would’ve liked more depth in the romance, but the story is fast-paced and entertaining with a happy for now conclusion.
This book is about 38 year old widow, Jordan Robinson, who falls for 28 year old, Clay Windsor, who happens to be an ex high school boyfriend of her step-daughter. Jordan tries to fight the pull of her attraction to Clay because she knows that it will lead to more negative gossip and publicity which she doesn’t want after being subjected to it for so long with her first marriage to a much older man. However Clay makes her feel things that she has never felt and they cannot seem to stay away from each other until a small article about their relation appears on page 6 of the local paper. Jordan freeks and gets into an argument over it with Clay and they wind up calling an end to their relationship. I won’t tell you whether or not they get back together, but I will say that the book’s ending is kind of unfinished to me. Perhaps this is because this is just book #1 in a new series. I really hope that Miss Kent continues some of the story lines in this book in the rest of the series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A very hot Mrs. Robinson and a now, very grown-up Clay set these pages on fire! Written in the 3rd person, it almost given a voyeur type feel when I read this book. Watching the chase, and push and pull between these two made for a fast paced book. Jordan and Clay are two that you will come to know, adore, and root for. Can Clay finally achieve what he’s dreamed of since he was seventeen? Can Jordan realize that Clay is not a teenager anymore, but a smoking hot grown man who knows what he wants? The book ends with a happy ending, but definitely has room to be expanded upon, or broken off with Jordan’s best friend.
Jordan Robinson has been the talk of the social circle before, and it’s not really something she has ever wanted to repeat. When she met and married her much older husband, everyone had something to say about it, and were quick to place labels. But now that her husband has passed, and appearances don’t necessarily need to be maintained, she has slipped out of the circle and maintained a lower profile. She still tends to the charities she is in charge of, but that is about the only time she mingles with the wealthy, often preferring to stay home and enjoy the peace and tranquility it provides.
But all her hard work to stay hidden is about to go to waste… she has caught the eye of a younger, wealthy mogul named Clay, and as soon as her “precious circle” finds out, its bound to be front page news. Which makes her want to run for hills… but temptation keeps drawing her back in!
Unsuitable is an erotic little page-turner brimming with scorching heat that is bound to have your tablet on the verge of overheating! This was a first time read for me, and I have to say I was left impressed with what I found, the words were well crafted and kept me engaged throughout, and the characters had a real feel quality, and were easy to connect to. I didn’t get an overly romantic vibe from this one, I would say it more so lies in the erotic genre, revolving more around between the sheets action, then heading towards a blissful traditional happily ever after. With that being said though, I want to stress the fact that I DID really enjoy the story, and I kind of liked the fact that it wasn’t your typical romance story, I found it to be somewhat refreshing change of pace actually. I loved the dynamic of their relationship, appreciated the approach the author took with the story line, and how she handled the nature of their relationship (older woman, younger man). I am looking forward to future installments, and to see what she has in store for readers and the characters in this series next! If you like your stories on the steamier side, then I highly suggest you take a chance on this one, it’s Hot! Hot! Hot!!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, via NetGalley, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
