After eight years, Henley Calvert is headed home. Back to the family farm and small town she left behind, never to be thought of again. Too much regret and shame to bear. But she’s the only one left to see to her family’s legacy, so she must return to Ashfall and face all the ghosts that haunt her. **** Gatlin Holt, the family farmhand, awaits her arrival, and lends a hand-in more ways than one. … one. He reacquaints Henley with the lay of the land while helping her heal her soul with a new outlook on life. Yet every time she thinks some peace may be within reach, Henley hits another roadblock. The biggest of which is Keaton Cash-her childhood nemesis who owns the farm next door. **** And no, it’s not a love triangle. That’s impossible when Henley’s heart is closed, incapable of love.

I loved this book!!
Henley had a falling out with her mother years ago and ever since Henley hasn’t set foot in her hometown let alone her family’s legacy ranch that has been in her family for generations. Until her mother died. She must return to not only bury her mother but to take care of the family ranch–or sell it. There are numerous men from her past and present who want more from her including her high school sweetheart who cheated on her. Her mother’s farm hand, Galin, who helps her process her emotions and allows her to grieve in her own special way. Then there’s her high school archnemesis, Keaton Cash, who owns the neighboring farm. Henley thinks Keaton just wants to buy her farm to make his bigger. Henley soon realizes which of these men she can truly trust with her heart–and her family farm.
What I liked about this story is how Henley processes coming home, her mother’s death, and what she truly wants in life. The men are a slight distraction, but each help her realize something about herself even if the guy was a total douche. Normally, grieving is skipped over in books or fast forward in a way, but Hall slows it down, shows Henley’s mental breakdown as well as her rise to independence.
OMG!!!! This book!!! This Guy!!!! I can’t even….
The things he does!
The things He says!
He is a bulldozer for sure! But Da-yum! He does everything in the best possible ways. I seriously wish he was a real person. I would call “dibs”. His relationship rules?!? I can’t help but smile among my tummy flutters. Can anyone say Alpha?
There are “feels”!
There are ups and downs!
Its chock full of love and loss!
And it’s the best dang book I have listened to in a while!
I LOVE the Epilogue!! On top of this amazing book we get a outstanding Epilogue! This is easily one of my favorite books of the year! The story is top notch and the characters are simply wonderful. The narrator, Brooke Bloomingdale, did great on all the different voices. This is a definite book I can listen to over and over and I highly recommend. Especially if you love an over the top alpha male. A smart and strong female with nothing to lose and her lovable pooch.
Loved this book, read it three times, really enjoyed it.
Unstable is full of heartache, regret, forgiveness… it’s about moving forward and getting your soul back. WELL DONE! I loved it.
I happened to run across this book and noticed I hadn’t read it. I had to share with you guys. I absolutely this book.
I like to savor SE Hall’s books. I always know that when I pick one up one of her books, it is going to be good. This one was more emotional than I ever expected but still amazing. The growth Henley has and the love that Keaton has for her, is proven over and over. I loved it.
I have been an SE Hall ever since I started reading romance! I’ve cried, laughed, shouted, hoped, prayed at some point in every one of her books. Most times, doing multiple of those things in some books. I have always felt a connection to SE’s books for one reason or another. But…
This book right here – pulls on my heart strings in every fashion. It makes you feel like you are right there with Henley as she finds herself, bounces back from unmeasurable pain and becomes the person she longs to be.
Keaton reminds you that true love and chivalry never die, as well as never gets old! He reminds us all of our adventures under those Friday Night Lights and Saturday Bon fires!
Congrats SE Hall on another amazing 5 star! Gotta say, this is my new favorite!
Everyone needs to read this love story.
A beautiful tale, perfectly portrayed by Brooke Bloomingdale on Audible.
I’m off to try my tears!
KEATON FREAKING CASH!!!!!! Where have you been all of my life???? I NEED a man like this, PRONTO!
When we were first introduced to Henley I wasn’t really sure what to think. I felt so bad for this poor girl! Then, we meet Keaton, and I’m like OH BOY, HERE WE GO!!! LOLOL I just knew he was going to take this book to a whole new level, and boy did he! Poor Henley had so much regret when she returned home, and it was so hard to see her be like that. I love how Keaton had come in and basically taken over her life. He wasn’t going to let her sit and wallow, he was determined to help her live a full life. Everything he did for her made me fall in love with him a little bit more. I loved the little characters in the town too, they really drove this story home. If it weren’t for people like Donna, Henley wouldn’t have been the same person.
SE Hall has done it again!!
With the ability to make you feel what these characters are feeling, she brings you into a new world with amazing results!!
I also feel that while this is so very SE Hall, there are many elements that make this stand alone stand above the others.
And while Henley is all sass and take charge, there’s no denying that Keaton is able to hold his own with her.
With all the feels you expect from SE Hall, this is one that will definitely stick with you!!
Keaton and Henley will make your heart smile!
Seriously my favorite book ever! I have re-read 5 times and it still makes me smile and laugh
An all-consuming, emotional, heartbreakingly beautiful journey to go on with Henley and Keaton. I enjoyed every single second of this story.
This is my first read by Hall and I’m completely enamored with this story. The way this is written, you can feel Henley’s pain and guilt so much but you can feel her strength as well. Keaton, this man – oh this man – I loved his cocky lines and his unconditional and undying love for Henley. Gaitlin was such a wise old soul and the friend that Henley needed – giving advice even when she didn’t want to hear it. I loved EVERYTHING about this story, there’s a little WTH is going on mystery, the sexual tension and chemistry is to die for, and the emotion that comes thru – I can’t even find the words to describe how much I enjoyed reading this. I teared up, I swooned, I yelled and pounded my fist on my chair a few times – just to reach the end and want to start again because I am not ready to let these characters go. Now that is something I have never written in a review and should say something about how much I adore this read. It will pull you in, it will tug on your heartstrings, and it will make you melt. S.E. Hall has gained a new faithful reader (I’m adding ALL her works to my TBR list) and I can’t wait to read more of her stories.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book will take you on an emotional rollercoaster ride. Henley returns after 8 yrs to her family home. She gets help from a farm hand named gatlin and a neighbor named Keaton. Can they help her heal?

Another great read by SE Hall! Love her books!
I’m a sucker for small town romances especially when the heroine and hero already have an established history. Henley returns home under sad circumstances and the memories it evokes will tug at your heart. She gets reacquainted with her childhood friend/enemy Keaton, who knows how to push all of her buttons. The bickering and clashes were outright funny and realistic. But he’s also patient and able to show her what’s been missing in her life. The twist at the end took me by surprise which made this a 5 star read.
