Berlin, Germany 1932. In a time of political unrest and strife, one man finds the courage to fight back…Dr. Wilhem “Q” Quedlin, chemical engineer and inventor, lives for his science. A woman is not in his plans—nor is it to be accused of industrial espionage. But things get worse from there.Watching Hitler’s rise to power spurns his desire to avoid yet another war that will completely destroy … another war that will completely destroy his beloved country. Q makes the conscious decision to fight against what he knows is wrong, even if working against the Nazis could mean certain death for him— and anyone he loves.
Hilde Dremmer has vowed to never love again. But after encountering Q, she wants to give love a second chance.
When Q discloses his resistance plan, it’s up to Hilde to choose between her protected life without him or the constant threat of torture if she supports him in his fight against injustice.
She has witnessed enough of the Nazi government’s violent acts to be appalled by the new political power, but will this be enough for an ordinary girl to do the extraordinary and stand beside the man she loves in a time of total desolation?
This World War II spy story is based on the true events of one couple’s struggle for happiness while battling a war against their own leaders.
Book 1 spans the years 1932 thru 1936

The fact tat it was a real story about real people
Can’t wait for the next book. Felt we left things hanging.
Lookimg foward to reading book 2.
Having lived during WWII appreciated the essence of what was happening
in Germany to those persons who opposed Hitler. Good writing. Thanks.
It was interesting hearing how some of the people in pre warGermany felt about Hitler.
It’s a part of history that should never be forgotten —it makes wanting to read books 2 and 3 a must!
Enjoyed reading the German people’s view of this war. Those who did not support Hitler had a very difficult life. My stepmother was born in 1932 and left Germany inn 1950 for a better life.
Did not care for so didn’t finish
I liked this book very much. Enough to purchase the rest of the trilogy. I learned things I did not know about Germany in the days before the war began. I always wondered how the German people allowed the things that took place without protest. It is very scary to find out what all went on. Very interesting and touching.
part 1 of 3
Very informative book learned a lot about the Germans in the 1930’s. What other countries thought of Germany and the way it really was, was quite different . Would not wanted to live in Germany during that time period . Nothing action packed but wanted to learn about prewar Germany. I learned a lot worth the read.
This is the type of book that I particularly dislike, although the glimpse into history was interesting. The writing is good but the storyline never really develops and suddenly it just ends. You have to buy the next book to find out what happens next. Needless to say I won’t be buying the next book. I think authors have an obligation to provide a complete story and not try to increase their readership or profits by using such a cheap trick.
Interesting fictional account of author’s grandparents’ actual experiences in Nazi Germany.
OK, I really liked this book, BUT it was very short and now I must buy the next book to continue with the story. Really—this is just a way to sell several books instead of writing a meaty story in one book. As much as I liked the book, I feel used, so I will not read the next books.
I liked the story. However, there were to many letters each character wrote and the story was drawn out. It needed to be faster moving.
It was a good book
Story of a scientist, his work, his life and working against Nazi Germany policy. This book is a trilogy and the first book does not offer a conclusion of any sort. This was a disappointment since it needed some sort of finality as well as lead into book 2.
I would have given it another star if it had a real ending!
Haven’t read it yet
Too simplistic.
