Berlin, Germany 1932. In a time of political unrest and strife, one man finds the courage to fight back…Dr. Wilhem “Q” Quedlin, chemical engineer and inventor, lives for his science. A woman is not in his plans—nor is it to be accused of industrial espionage. But things get worse from there.Watching Hitler’s rise to power spurns his desire to avoid yet another war that will completely destroy … another war that will completely destroy his beloved country. Q makes the conscious decision to fight against what he knows is wrong, even if working against the Nazis could mean certain death for him— and anyone he loves.
Hilde Dremmer has vowed to never love again. But after encountering Q, she wants to give love a second chance.
When Q discloses his resistance plan, it’s up to Hilde to choose between her protected life without him or the constant threat of torture if she supports him in his fight against injustice.
She has witnessed enough of the Nazi government’s violent acts to be appalled by the new political power, but will this be enough for an ordinary girl to do the extraordinary and stand beside the man she loves in a time of total desolation?
This World War II spy story is based on the true events of one couple’s struggle for happiness while battling a war against their own leaders.
Book 1 spans the years 1932 thru 1936

I loved it. It covers a part of history that too few people today know about or understand.
This book was interesting because it was based on the author’s grandparents. They met, fell in love, and married, in Nazi Germany. I’ve read many novels about this time period, but it was interesting to know that this story was true. If you like WWll novels, you will enjoy this one.
Can’t put it down!!!
I liked the fact that the characters were real people
This book tells of a couple in love in Hitler Germany as the war approaches. It’s an era people should know about and a good read.
I thought it was historical fiction at its best and finding out it was based on the lives of real people made it more special.
Very informative about the reality of living in pre-WWII Germany.
Set in pre war Germany, a true story of young love and learning to live in the times.
It portrayed a realistic situation before WWII when choices were made I spite of the danger that followed. I would like to read the remaining books in the series.
Unrelenting presents an uncommon perspective on WWII, that of German “insiders” who resisted Hitler and the Third Reich. I enjoyed the kindness of the author as he helps the reader to understand and appreciate the political situation and explore the complex social dilemmas average German citizens faced as Hitler’s agenda deepened. I’m anxious to read the rest of the series.
What Did The Future Hold for Germany and her People?
“Unrelenting” gives a true historical insight as to the changing of Germany under Hitler in every aspect of life prior to the World War II.. A good read.
Unrelenting by Marion Kummerow is the first book in her World War II Trilogy which is based on the true story of her grandparents. It is a lovely story of a brilliant chemical engineer and an insurance clerk who meet and fall in love as Hitler and the Nazis begin to change the face of Germany. I enjoy historical novels and this one does not disappoint as the reader is able to see the transformation of the German government and the everyday citizen’s way of life from Wilhelm or Q as his friends call him, and Hilde’s points of view. And as a reader who knows the horrors of WWII from a historical perspective, I found the story a bit suspenseful, wondering when things would turn for the worse for this young couple who both for differing reasons were so against the Nazi party and where their opposition to Nazism might take them. Their journey to marriage was fraught with obstacles due to new laws and regulations and I wondered if they were ever going to be able to be together. Suspense and romance are two of my favorite genres so I found Unrelenting to be captivating. I was given a complimentary copy of the audiobook and James Anderson Foster does a great job with the narration making for an enjoyable listening experience. I am looking forward to reading the following two books in the series to find out more about this courageous young couple and where their journey takes them next.
I found this book to be very interesting with information about Hitler’s rise to power and its affect on ordinary citizens. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
It reads well. I’m on to the second one in the series.
A swift read that grabs you and takes you into WWII.
Scientist Dr. Wilhelm Quedlin works to improve life for everyone, regardless of their class, race, or nationality. Insurance claims clerk Hilde Dremmer believes everyone is created equal. The rise of Hitler’s National Socialist party in 1930s Germany challenges them both to reconcile their beliefs with the prevailing political climate.
A poignant, provocative story of love, history, and morality.
With characters so well drawn that you feel like you are watching from a short distance. This book helped me further understand the suffocating existence of Nazi Germany and how it assaulted and destroyed basic human morality. Very worthwhile story given our present day situation in 2018 in the U.S.
Writing needs to be tightened, but came to love the characters and it made me want to read the next in the series.
Untold pre 2nd World War conditions in Germany, especially from the Germans understanding and perception
It was a wonderful story, based on the author’s grandparents. But it was too short. In order to find out what happened to these two people you have to purchase two more books in the series Not happy about that!
