This World War II spy story is based on the true events of one couple’s struggle for happiness while battling a war against their own leaders.

Good read of a Historical nature. True to life during the World Wars time frame.
So grateful to hear about common people saving people in Germany. This was another great WW2 book based on a true story.
I thought it was a very good account of people sticking to what they believed despite the risk–well written, good characters, believable
It examines both the best and worst behavior of people.
The characters.
I loved this story.
I learned a lot about the different political states from this book. It was very interesting.
Gives a nice insight to what the german people, who did not agree with Hitler, had to live through.
A good look at what was happening in Europe in the 1930’s.
This first book of the trilogy is excellent. An amazing picture of a country gone haywire & the toll taken on human lives. I can’t wait to read the other 2 books in the series. Thank you for the opportunity to read this book
Good read but no resolution at the end. Would certainly read next book.
This story is based on the real lives of the writer’s grandparents. It points out the struggles “Q and Hilde” endured with the times and happenings in Germany when Hitler first comes into power. It is a powerful story of a deep love and marriage. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
Good book, shows that a lot of the German residents were not on the Hitler band wagon. They were afraid of the regiem but feared to stick up for the Jewish faction and afraid for their lives to oppose Hitler.
No one except those who experience the Nazis can truly understand the fear and terror they push on to a very educated populace. A great book to add to our understanding of Dictators and the Evil they sell. It is best to remember they are the Liars and take on any challenge with yelling and Violence. A great book about political correctness and where it leads.
A great book about how life in pre world war 11 Germany.
While the book is interesting, it is a slow paced story, and took up book one for the couple to get married. There are two more books. Portrays well why many Germans remained silent at the actions of Hitler. Ordinary Germans are often unjustly accused of being antisemitic, when we have no idea what it was like to live under such fear and tyranny!
Excellent. Couldn’t wait to continue the trilogy. Author humanized the characters in a very special way.
I enjoyed the book completely but was disappointed by the fact that the first book gives you no closure and you have to read the second book -which was not free like the first one- in order to continue the story
The characters seem so real
Very good book.
