What happens when you fall in love with your best friend?I have the best job in the world. Date beautiful women and write about it. But I want to take it to the next level: instead of writing about my experiences make it into an online reality show. But here is the catch. My boss wants me to share the show with a woman co-host. And he wants that woman to be my best friend and co-worker, Margo. … and co-worker, Margo.
I’ll date beautiful women and she’ll date hot men. Sounds fair enough.
So now I have to watch her fake date hot men. I used to love going home with a different woman every night, but suddenly this isn’t as fun. Seeing Margo with anyone else is driving me crazy.
And the more time I spend with her working on the show, the less I want to keep our relationship in the friends’ zone. And the harder it is to stop myself from imagining her bent over the copier.
Things are about to get unprofessional.

Hot as well as funny the characters were so much fun to go on the crazy journey with. This is my first book by this author and I will be reading more because I’m hooked. Until next time y’all happy reading.
I loved this fun, sweet story! I enjoyed the relationship between Owen and Margo, that special long time friendship that built into more. It wasn’t rushed, I felt connected to the characters and loved the back and forth between them. A must read!
This is a friends turned to friends with benefits turns to maybe more romance. They’ve been friends for many years now and never contemplated taking things further, though they are both physically attracted to the other. He is a playboy, not looking to settle down. She used to be a party girl, but while that is in her past, she’s having bad luck with the men in her life. After one drunken night, when things got a little carried away, she’s now worried their friendship is ruined, but being the chill friend he is, takes away that awkwardness that comes the morning after. Now, though, that itch has been scratched so what will the two of them do. Risk a longtime friendship for a thrill or forget it ever happened and move on… if they can even forget it happened. He is a good friend to her and visa versa. Both of the characters are smart and easy to like. Both have strong personalities that compliment each other. They also both know how to give it just as much as they take it. They confide in each other and are able to lean on one another when needed. They also happen to work together. I’m talking desks next to each other. (Which makes the day after all the more awkward.) She’s a career driven woman with grand dreams. His focus is mostly on making the most of his job and to not turn out like his father. There are laughs, drinks, sex and cats. (Not all at the same time.) 😉 This is a pretty light-hearted read (though there are some angsty’ish moments.) It’s easy to read, and reads quickly. It alternates between POVS. Due to the sexual content, this is appropriate for mature readers.
Sweet, sexy and full of love I listened to the audiobook and these characters are great, but it was even sexier hearing Nelson Hobbs say my name during those sexy moments . JD Hawkins did a wonderful job with the writing, storyline, character development and pacing of this delectable read.
Heading towards 4.5/5. Fairly well edited.
Owen and Margo have been friends since college. Such good friends, in fact, that Margo went out on a limb and helped Owen get a job where she works. So, now they are best friends and colleagues. No room for anything else in that equation – right? Except in helping Margo over her latest breakup, they both allow impaired judgement to open the door to a more physical relationship. Now what do they do? Well, they try to return to the status quo. Except Owen’s idea for a video dating blog takes off and they are forced to watch each other date someone else for the sake of a story. Neither party is happy with this development, and they soon find themselves ditching dates to spend time together. Then, Margo gets the job offer of her dreams. Will she stay or will she go? Does she believe Owen could leave his playboy ways behind and commit to her? Does she even want him to?
So many questions followed by so many answers. All in all a nice afternoon read. Enjoy.
4.5 Swoony Stars!
I really enjoyed this friends to lovers romance. The storyline was fun, refreshing and engaging. Owen and Margo have been friends since college. They now work side by side as journalists for an internet media company. Owen is having fun working there but Margo has more serious writing goals. When she accidentally becomes an internet sensation she and Owen are teamed up for more than they bargained for. Owen has always been a player but now he is realizing that his best friend is more to him. But being friends and colleagues made the risk of loss too great. Will he be able to convince Margo, who dreams of bigger and better, that it is all right in front of her?
I really liked both Owen and Margo because they felt genuine, honest and relate-able. Their banter was fun, their sexual tension and chemistry was off the charts and I loved Owen’s dominant side. This is a swoony and sexy, fun and flirty romance with enough angst and emotion to keep you engaged from start to finish. I highly recommend this book!
This is my kind of unprofessional. I mean what woman wouldn’t…
He’s your best friend, your work place buddy, and clearly you get along. Just because you’ve been fighting the attraction since the first time you saw him…(and that’s a memory to never forget)
Never take into account that you have been lusting after him for 8 years. Ignore the fact that occasionally it isn’t one sided. And always forget that crazy chemistry and allure that is between you. I’m saying this as an impartial third party, it would be unprofessional otherwise. (insert devilish winky face)
In other words, sounds like the best damn drunken decision you could ever make or the worst. You will just have to figure out which one.
Fun characters and a ridiculously entertaining storyline will have you smitten. It has nothing to do with the wild playboy oozing charm and sex or the fun, sassy friend who holds a big place in his life.
reviewed for Sweet Spot Sisterhood
I’m thinking 3.5 stars for me. I had a hard time getting into the story. I think I wasn’t to keen on the whole dating vlog thing like I thought I would be. I didn’t understand the whole point of Margo all of a sudden being a drunken kitty lover YouTube sensation. Whatever happened to all of that? I don’t know, I just wasn’t feeling it like I hoped. This definitely won’t stop me from reading other books by the author.
JD is one of my all time favourite authors …
He is a master wordsmith and knows how to bring you into the world of his Characters.
I thoroughly loved reading this book and could not recommend it highly enough
Unprofessional is by far is my favorite book by JD Hawkins. It’s a friends to lovers romance with a twist and the right amount of angst. There are also some pretty funny moments too.
The struggle is real when you can’t read a book fast enough. I read this in a day because I needed the HEA. I enjoyed the party animals turned grown-up story. The characters are relateable and have depth.
Owen and Margo have been friends since their first year in college. They were both party animals, drinking, dancing and having plenty of sex. Now it’s eight years later and Margo has moved on from her partying ways. She’s grown up and wants more out of life. Margo has big dreams of moving to NY and working for an upmarket magazine. She is also searching for a meaningful relationship, she’s moved past just having fun.
Owen has a good job thanks to Margo. They work together side by side for Trendblend. Own hasn’t grown-up as much, he continues to have fun, only looking for hook ups. Owen is a commitment phoebe. The exact opposite as his father.
Margo has no intentions of sleeping with Owen because she doesn’t want to ruin their friendship. Even with the best of intentions Margo hooks up with Owen after a few too many drinks. Now how will they handle their friendship after the hook up? There’s also a twist. They will also be starring in a online reality show dating other people. It gets very interesting.
I love how the relationship developed after eight years of friendship. It took some liquid courage to get them in bed together but it took a whole lot of processing to make it work. “Turns out some dreams are better than others.” 5 Stars!
I’ve read every book JD Hawkin’s has written and loved them all!! Unprofessional is no exception, I absolutely loved it!! JD just has a way with words making it sexy, deep with emotions and keeps you riveted to the story!! Owen and Margo’s story is a friends to lovers that started when they were friends in college. Partying together, knowing each other so well, having the time of their lives, fast forward 8 years and now they are working together as writers for a website company. They definitely notice how hot the other one is but have never acted upon it worried they could jeopardize their special friendship!! After a few too many drink celebrating St Paddy’s day one night, things get HOT!!!. How will they be able to move forward, still work together and stay friends? Is there a chance they could actually have a relationship? Owen not a relationship type of guy so probably not. I loved their chemistry, their deep commitment to each other, No one writes a sex scene the way JD does, scorching hot and I swear you need a cigarette when he’s done with you!!! Grab this delicious book and if JD is a new author to you, make sure to check out his other books, You’ll love them!!!
Unprofessional was a first read for me by this author! His writing style is on point with awesome details that help paint a beautiful picture of these hot characters Owen and Margo! And lets be real, the sex was hot! I definitely recommend Unprofessional. I look forward to reading more from J.D.
Whooaaa…this book gives “unprofessional” a whole new meaning!
HOT!!! And hot, and hot, and swoony….and did I mention HOT! Wowza, if all coworkers are like Owen, I’m thinking the entire female population would definitely enjoy going to work!
Unprofessional was a great friends-to-lovers/office romance! I LOVED the fact that Owen and Margo had an established relationship, prior to becoming coworkers. And the fact that neither one of them hid their true character from the other. Their chemistry was evident right from the beginning. ‘Cause hello!….coffee! And once they caved and finally took matters into their own hands, literally, their chemistry went from simmering to explosive. But when their relationship turns from friends to lovers, it was totally understandable why Margo had reservations about Owen. He was a playboy, and it was obviously clear that “casual” was the only route he took. And with a chance at her dream job, Margo wondered if casual could work for her.
I really enjoyed this book. I did. But here comes the “but”: being as close as friends as Owen and Margo were, best friends even, I didn’t care for their lack of communication regarding their feelings, and Margo’s job opportunity. 8 years is a long time to be friends with someone, and have the ability to tell them anything. So why now? Why hold back their real, deep feelings and emotions from each other?…when it should have been their top priority. I understand the fear of losing each other. But they already crossed that line by progressing their friend and professional relationship.
Overall, Unprofessional was a great book. It wasn’t my favorite from JD, but it in no way will deter me from reading more of his books in the future. The story was entertaining, freaking sexy as hell, and had some fantastic comedy throughout…very charming!
