This is one of the best books in the BDSM genre that I have ever read. I love the way we meet Thomas as an awkward, inexperienced young man seeking employment. He interviews with Lina, the CEO of her own company, and is hired as her assistant. The story moves quickly, and shortly, we discover Thomas has developed into a mature, experienced man in both business and in his sexual proclivities.
Lina has a nicotine habit that she wishes to overcome. This compulsion to smoke is indicative of a deeper insecurity and emotional hurdles that she will eventually need to face. Thomas, as a friend, coworker and Dom, offers a “business arrangement,” which he believes will help her put aside her unhealthy addiction.
Being privy to Lina’s inner thoughts, while she is a willing participant in Thomas’s intense training sessions, completely enthralled me. Thomas helped Lina discover her submissive desires, and while her experiences appeared at first to be humiliating, demeaning, desperate and needy, her feelings were intense, wild, dirty, exceedingly salacious, and at times surprisingly peaceful and elated. And, while reading this, my entire being was filled with excitement, anticipation and arousal. I was riveted to the actions and the words. This author was able to describe places, actions and emotions as if I was right there with the two participants. OMG! This is an erotic read! It sucked me in, titillated my mind and aroused my senses.
If you read the prequel, Unorthodox Dom, you know Thomas was hired right out of high school to fill the position of Lina’s PA. Thomas’ mother had been very controlling so when he had insisted he wanted to code and become a software engineer, his mother had given him an ultimatum and deadline. He could get a job and pay for everything himself, including a place to live or give up his nonsense, come home and follow in his father’s footsteps in finance. That was seven years ago and from the day he interviewed for the position with Lina, he had been infatuated with her. He’s learned a lot in those seven years. He’s toned his body, changed to a more attractive frame for his glasses, is one of the highest paid programmers contributing to many of the projects within the company and has become a more assertive and controlled Dom in his private life.
Lina is not an innocent young lady. No, she’s an experienced woman who has started her own company tech company and is now CEO of ChaosTech Solutions. Because the men of the board resented having a woman for their boss and deemed it unacceptable to be close to the employees of the company, Lina was the only board member to have her office on the same floor as the programmers. Unfortunately, their attitudes kept her on the lookout so they couldn’t find a weakness to use against her. She’s worked too hard to have it taken away from her. The only one she really had was smoking. And she’s been trying to quit for years, including paying someone $1K to hypnotize her without any luck.
So when Thomas suggests Lina submit to him and his unique brand of therapy to help her quit smoking within two months, they enter into an agreement. Nothing written down, but it becomes a BDSM D/s “business arrangement”.
This is not your billionaire and young innocent BDSM romance. This is an intense BDSM relationship with scenes so if you have any triggers, be aware they exist. Although, like most BDSM erotica, there are some things over the top, but for the most part this is a very realistic relatable storyline containing strong characters with ever growing personalities. It was great being able to have a story from both sides so we see their strengths, weaknesses, hopes and fears. This book ends with a huge cliffhanger so be prepared but it also makes the anticipation of Book 2, Unorthodox Chemistry, all that much better.
Long gone are the days when Thomas Jett was a fresh out of high school kid who was hired as Lina Riley’s PA. In his place is a confident Dom who plays Lina like a maestro. In giving her the tools to deal with her insecurities and her addiction he gives her freedom. This mild mannered young man who was slack jawed the first time he met Lina fulfills all of his fantasies as he dominates her. Lina, in giving up control and giving him her submission is able to find a peace that has eluded her. In man’s world, Lina is an anomaly. She saavy, successful, driven and successful and there are those who want to take her down. A life altering, gut wrenching event breaks Lina both mentally and physically leaving her a shell of her former self. No matter how hard he tries, he finally realizes the only way he can help her is to walk away.
This is an intensely emotional romance. These two characters while strong and successful are both dealing with emotions and flaws dating back to their childhoods. Mistrust and jealousy afflicts them both at times. While they do love each other sometimes that’s just not enough.
Had to buy book 2!
It was ok bit wasn’t too cool of an ending
Strong BDSM elements. Realistic within the lifestyle depicting the best parts, and the worst with the differences. Realizations that being ‘hard-wired’ for a D/s relationship can be as strong, or stronger, bond than another. First volume in as series, ending not necessarily with a cliffhanger rather an incentive to learn more regarding the two lead characters.
I was captivated by the story and couldn’t put the book down. All of the twists and turns. I knew early on by certain key words that some of the other characters would be important to the book and to watch for. I just didn’t know how or when. I would recommend this book to others and have done so already. **warning some triggers throughout the book**
This is a dark read, but there is a lot of it packed into this book.
I want to love this book, but the heroine is just too stupid for me.
I love the originality of the two main characters. Seeing them develop kept me reading.
Coudn’t Read these books fast enough!
This book was well written. And, if you liked fifty shades of grey, then you will probably enjoy this book.
Wow book 1 was brilliant. It took us on a journey of self-discovery and what life is like when you are so deprived what you long for. It this book we see so many different sides to their story that we can’t help but fall in love with them. This definitely gets 5 stars
Disappointed with no hea but I can imagine
I really enjoyed this book. Am waiting for the 2nd book in the series.
Unorthodox plot which I liked, but the relationship dynamic was a little bare for my taste.
Wow..I so can’t wait to continue reading this trilogy..I had a very hard time putting it down
One of the best books in this genre I’ve read! I could not put it down!
This first book in the Unorthodox Triogy by Lilah Noir was a very insightful look into a developing D/s relationship between two people who work together. It is a superb look at how a highly powerful woman can yield to her urges to become submissive but not a slave to a man. It is also a unique look at a man who is struggling with his own urges as he strives to become a good dom and master to her. This is a very late voluntary review of this book.
Was not easy to follow, very disorganized.
