This book is absolutely hands down amazing. Just a warning it is not for the faint of hearts. It is raw and dark, and had me questioning my morals. It discusses topic that are dark and taboo, with such emotions that my heart broke severely serial times while reading it.
Max and Addison stole my f*€k!ng heart! The broke it, burned it, throw it in the grinder and it some how made me love them more. KV Rose has this amazing ability of making you fall in love with the villain. Never would I have thought I can support or root for a person like Max, but as he develops and you see the inner workings of his mind, you simply can’t help but crave him.
There is no words to express the emotions that flowed through me while reading this story. Hands down one of my favorites for 2020!
This is literally everything I love inside a book. It’s dark, twisted, grotesque, sexy AF, and heart stopping and PAGE TURNING. I couldn’t stop reading. Well, actually KV Rose has a way of writing to make sure the reader is so invested, you don’t even want to leave your bed to pee.
I’m shook. How can I love and hate a character all at once? Sam Bennett. I hate this guy. The stuff he did… I hate him! But I also love his tortured soul.
“Max Bennett is worse than the devil. At least you know Satan is going to eat you alive. With Max, he’ll make you beg for it first. Make you think he’s doing you a favor as he rips your heart right out of your chest.”
And Addison. I found her to be such a strong female character. She had her weak moments but my god. The girl just wants to be loved and my heart was just squeezing with angst over this story.
“But the thing about being so selfish, Max, is that you forget you’re not the only one born from monsters.”
Yes, it ends on a cliffhanger but many questions are also answered. No HEA but a second book is coming.
You still need to read it. Five stars easily!
5 SICK TWISTED STARS!! Holy heck…..My head hurts from pulling on my hair with this book. I had a love/hate relationship with Max, but his name is engraved on my heart….not sure if that is good or bad. I must be SICK AND TWISTED. Max and Addison would love for you to join them on this crazy train ride, so grab a strong drink and dive into their story. K.V. Rose has given me that perfect dark read that will be with me forever.
Man, that book put me through the wringer. It was dark! I mean pitch f***ing black. Please heed the author’s warning because there are many triggers. Usually that makes me gravitate towards a book but there were times I wanted to just dnf. But I’m glad I didn’t because I really enjoyed it in the end. Max and Addison have both had rough childhoods and it shows in how they view the world. Max is dark, devious, and unapologetic in the way he lives his life. He’s a bad guy does bad things but for a reason. He has his eyes set on the prize. Addison is just the means to an end. Addison and her sweet spirit my heart went out to her. She was strong even though she thought herself weak. These characters will suck you in and you’ll be flipping the pages to see what happens next. I can’t wait for the next book!
Max Bennett is worse than the devil. At least you know Satan is going to eat you alive. With Max, he’ll make you beg for it first. Make you think he’s doing you a favor as he rips your heart right out of your chest.
You guys I did it! I finally popped my KV Rose cherry! 😉
And it was painful, uncomfortable, and completely overwhelmed me in all the right ways.
Max, or Daddy Max if you’re nasty, is one complicated, multifaceted, and perfect anti-hero. He is a twisted, menacing, unpredictable man on one level and on another he is a small, scared, scarred little boy who loves his brother more than anything in this world. The lengths he goes to to protect his brother, Oliver, from the monsters in their life is….well it’s excruciating to read about.
When you’re given nothing but pain your entire life, you take the good parts where you can get them, even if they’re from the monsters.
And on the flip side, we have Addison who has led an equally traumatizing life. Addison is taken by Max as payment for a mistake her father made. In his house, she is put through another level of hell but let me tell you right now, the strength this girl shows and the will to survive she has it is truly remarkable considering everything she had already been through before Max got his hands on her.
She thinks I’m a monster. I wonder if she knows, though, that that’s exactly what I’ve always wanted to be.
Unorthodox pulled me in by my throat and refused to set me free until I got to that final page and then it dropped me over a cliff. That ending I saw coming but it didn’t make it any easier to read. The only thing I can do is hope and pray that KV Rose isn’t too rough with Addison or Max but considering what she put them through in this first installment, I’m not going to hold my breath. I’m so glad I finally gave KV Rose a try because I loved her writing style and her overall story telling abilities. There were a few lines that were repeated over and over to the point where they kind of lost their punch and started to become annoying, but other than that I don’t have any complaints about the writing.

Unorthodox (Sick Love #1) by K.V. Rose
5 MINDBLOWING STARS
This is a DARK romance book, so please, do not read this book if you can’t handle your emotions or if you have any triggers. If you know you can handle it, then proceed. If NO, stay away.
“Not for the faint of heart. This is the story of a villain and a girl brave enough to claim him. If you are sensitive to extreme themes found in dark romance, proceed with caution.”
I am putting this warning for you, not for me. I loved it. I savored it.
K.V. Rose…. I am DEAD. I am DEAD and gone to hell with daddy Max.
I am speechless. The title of the series “SICK LOVE” should be enough warning for you.
THIS BOOK IS SICK but in the best way possible. So dark, so captivating, so addictive and so good.
My first read from K.V. Rose was ECSTASY and I thought it was the mindfuck of all books.
I am a sucker for dark books, and this one landed right in my hand.
To say that my emotions are all over the place is an understanding. Roller-coaster of epic proportions, that’s what Unorthodox is.
This book definitely has risen to Ecstasy’s level. My limits were pushed and my triggers were touched.
This author is not afraid to touch some sensitive subjects, emotions, or feelings. Straight to the point. Dark, Taboo, Damaged, Blood, Depraved, every f*cking thing. F*ck all the boundaries and limits.
Trust me, if you are a true dark lover, this book is the perfect one for you.
And that epilogue…. I need book two like my next breath.
This was my first book by this author and it definitely will not be the last. I can tell she really gets me with her darkness. Unorthodox is very dark, alllll the trigger warnings, exactly how I like my books. It’s full of suspense, depravity, dubious consent, and hotness that will leave you uncomfortable in all the best ways. I can’t wait to see where this story goes and how these characters develop in the second book. If you live for dark romance like I do, you will want to give this a read!
We live in a dark world and K.V. Rose knows how to immerse you in one. With every scene you are right there with the characters. You experience everything they do. I felt it so hard during one scene I had to take a break. The sign of an amazing author!
This book has literally every trigger you’ve ever seen listed. Proceed with caution unless you already know you love dark romance, in that case hurry up and read this one!
Holy hell ! This book was phenomenal! Hands down one of the best dark captive romances that I’ve ever read ! I’m fairly new to this author having only read one other book by her and let me tell you her work is fast becoming my new book addiction ! I LOVE dark romance and this story hit the spot it was dark twisted tragic dirty and hot AF ! If you have any triggers or don’t like dark romance than this book ain’t for you and if your like me and see a author put a trigger warning on a book and immediately snatch that bitch up than you will love this story ! KV Rose is taking the book world by storm with her amazing characters and storylines and I’m here for it ! Definite 5 stars and I definitely recommend this book to any dark romance lovers !
*ARC KINDLY GIVEN FOR MY HONEST OPINION *
I’m going to be completely honest here and say that I struggled with the book. Not because of the writing but because it was so shockingly dark. I knew their were trigger warnings and I generally have no issues but holy shit this book is seriously messed up. It’s DARK, violent, and brutal on your heart and soul. But at the same time it is just soooo we’ll written. There was so much pain and heartache, and I felt every single second of it. My heart was in my throat, tears in my eyes, and I was panicking throughout the entire book. And now even though I am TERRIFIED of what’s to come and how much worse it can possibly get for Addison, I still really need to know what happened. I just hope my heart can take another round of this.
Shockingly intense and thrilling!
”You know better than that baby girl. I’m not more. I’m so much worse.”
WOW! This is a very dark, intense, raw, gritty and highly emotional story. I was completely blown away by it. There was no way I was putting this story down until the end. It captivated me, enthralled me and titillated me. It is utterly phenomenal and brilliantly written.
Addison and Max took me on a dark and twisted wild ride that I did not want to get off of. They are two extremely explosive people with very dark and damaged pasts that haunt them every second of their lives. These two shocked me with their never ending anger and brutality towards each other leaving me completely breathless! They are violent when together and have some very intense sexual moments! They sucked me into their lives and gutted me emotionally.
I loved this story so much especially it’s darkness and with the way that Max and Addison have completely enthralled me. The ending is very shocking and heartbreaking but I can’t wait to read how it turns out. I am 100% sure us readers are in for one hell of an intense adventure in the next book! Highly recommend for all of the extremely dark romance lovers.
“You’re so pretty when you’re scared, baby girl.”
This quote is basically the whole book. If you don’t want to read it based on this quote alone, then this book is not for you.
It’s dark and it doesn’t hold back. KV Rose takes you into this world with Max and Addison and flips everything you think you know on it’s head. It’s not an easy read but it’s worth it.
I just, I have no words. WOW. This author seriously IMPRESSES me at every point and with EVERY SINGLE BOOK SHE WRITES. WOW. Max was….man, he was perfection. He was EVERYTHING and more. He was so haunted, so disturbed, so lost and alone, I felt his sadness deep in my bones. Even though he tried to hide it, I FELT IT. I FELT FOR HIM. Gahhhh. He is definitely in my top favorite bad boys I have ever read. I loved watching him grow from the beginning of the book to the end. He was still as bad as ever, but once I got to the end of the book I actually seen his heart and his love for Addison.
Addison, she was so fierce! She was strong, independent, willful, resilient and she also hid many many years of pain. I was rooting for them the whole book. I felt so awful for what she went through, I once found myself tearing up just thinking about the absolute horrors that she and Max both went through. I wanted her to tell Max all her secrets and him tell her his. Oh his secret. So so so so so unimaginable. To protect your brother your entire life and take all that abuse just for him to end up the way he did.
This author, WOW. Its all I can say. She brings the darkness out. She feeds my dark desires PERFECTLY. UGH. I just loved this book SO much and I cannot, CANNOT wait for book 2. Not only is Max my favorite man, but this author KV Rose is becoming one of my favorite authors. I am in awe. Absolute perfection. 5 stars isnt enough.

Oh god its 3 am and my heart hurts my mind is racing and this book has left me speechless and damn i genuinely never read something so intense.
Addison lead a horrible life with an even worse past and finds her self with a monster who lived through horrors and she’s the only way Max will get what he wants.. but is it true that a monster is only a monster till you love him?
This book is heavy on the heart and its a page turner at the same time i had to stop a few times and breathe because i felt too much Max is not a hero or anywhere near that but i see redemption for him throughout the book and i’m sure he’ll make us all love him in the second book and Addison i loved everything about her and how strong she is. the undeniable chemistry they had and all the limits it pushed.
This book is not for the faint of the heart but the story is GOOD and i’m literally counting the days till i get my hand on the second one.
The Jeremiah cameo was everything because he is literally bae.
Just like always KV does her magic again.

Damn!!! This book was so dark, depraved, and twisted!!! It had me biting my nails, trying to guess what was going to happen next. Unorthodox is one of the darkest books I have read in a very long time. And I loved every page of it, but if you have triggers, Be careful reading this one. It has a lot of sensitive subjects that not everyone can handle.
Daddy Max, I wanted to hate him, but my god, I loved his crazy A**. I also really liked Addison I felt like she was pretty damn brave and strong for all the stuff she had to endure. Both Addison and Max have had messed up childhoods. They both had to do a lot of really sick stuff to survive in a world full of monsters. They are a lot alike in so many ways that make them perfect for each other.Daddy Max, I wanted to hate him, but my god, I loved his crazy A**. “Make it hell.” KV sure as hell did too!
I simultaneously love and hate both Max and Addison, and cannot decide if they’re a match made in hell or if they’re going to be the death of each other.
All I do know is that this book was a whole freaking ride and KV had me feeling so many emotions— I bounced from being devastated, to anxious, to hopeful, and back to devastated again. But I (of course) have not learned my lesson and need the second book in this duet ASAP because I apparently like the pain.
All that being said: 5 stars, a must read if you’re into super dark and twisted romances with broken/unredeemable characters that you somehow feel sorry for and end up loving unconditionally, and especially if you like pain.
Breathe in. Breathe out.
Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. The emotional peak that I just reached scared the life outta me. This book is A LOT. Some may say triggering, but I will say, empathy evoking. And I don’t mean in a bad way. This book touches on things that are extremely ugly. Things that people tend to automatically steer from. Don’t do it. Read the book. Reading what these characters are working to overcome is eye-opening and to me cathartic. Some of us will feel this one deeper than others, I know that. Before you decide it’s too much to handle, try to look at it through someone else’s eyes. Someone who’s experienced similar devils and come through scorched but alive. This book reminds you of just that. A walk through hell may scar you for life, but damn if it doesn’t make you stronger.
And the queen delivered once again! Before I start with my review, let me just warn you that this is a dark romance with numerous triggers (rape, kidnapping, abuse, murder, etc.) If you don’t feel comfortable reading such things, this ain’t for you!
K.V. made sure to warn us about Max Bennet, that he was not a hero but a villain and so, I dived in expecting a bad guy. And he’s that and so much more. He’s mean, cruel, cold but we also get to see a broken and damaged side of him. The way I felt about him kept changing throughout the book. I fell for his softer side and felt bad for what he went trough but also wanted to smash his head against the wall for how he was treating Addison. Plus, he killed someone that I actually started liking.
I completely loved Addison! She was born into a world she wished not to be associated with even the slightest, but life doesn’t always treat you right. Not then and not now did she deserve what was happening to her. However, it didn’t stop her from being strong, brave, and feisty, which I really appreciated and admired!
I went from experiencing anger to unease to sadness. I was able to feel everything through each word. I sensed the pain, the craving, the bitterness.
I’m really looking forward to the sequel and to see how everything will unfold. That cliffhanger left me on edge, I need more ASAP!
OMG ” Yes Daddy” This book had my hating Max and Addison and then loving them the next second. They are meant for each other, b/c of the hell they both survived.
I fricken love this book! Its dark, twisty, sexy, vulgar, and just hands down amazing!! K.V.Rose does it again in this bada$$ book! She has such a way with words! Max is a man you love to hate!! Looking at his past and current self make me fall to my knees for him! Don’t get me wrong alot of times in this book I wanted to nut punch him! He’s deliciously disturbed! I loved Addys fight and wit! She was the perfect FMC for this book! Unorthodox gave you all the feels. There were moments in this book that completely broke me! If you love dark romances this book is definitely for you but be warned there are many triggers in this book!!! PROCEED WITH CAUTION
