When a terminally ill woman dies much earlier than expected, Lord Peter Wimsey suspects murder: “First-rate detection” (The Cincinnati Enquirer). Though never quick-witted, Agatha Dawson had an iron constitution and a will to fight that never abated in her old age. Even after three operations failed to rid her of her cancer, she refused to give in. But as her body began to weaken, she accused … began to weaken, she accused lawyers, nurses, and doctors of trying to kill her and snatch her fortune. The town physician, an expert in cancer, gives her six months to live. Only three days later, she is dead.
Though the autopsy reveals nothing surprising, the doctor suspects that Agatha’s niece had some hand in the old woman’s death. When Lord Peter Wimsey, the dashing gentleman detective, looks into the matter, he finds that death stalks all those who might testify. How can he continue his investigation when every question marks another innocent for murder?
Unnatural Death is the 3rd book in the Lord Peter Wimsey Mysteries, but you may enjoy the series by reading the books in any order.

This isn’t the best Wimsey story but it’s good enough. Not a conventional mystery, since the villain is pretty clear almost from the beginning, so the mystery is more about how the crime could have been committed (and why?) and perhaps most of all, how could the killer be brought to justice. Full of whimsical and eccentric characters and behaviors and witty observations on British upper class conventions.
Sayers is Sayers….The Queen of aristocratic detective stories.
I didn’t care for this book. I found it difficult to follow. I considered abandoning it but did finish it, ultimately wishing I had put it aside earlier.
Classic British who dun it.
Love the lord Peter Wimsey series!
I enjoy this series by Dorothy L Sayers
Any Lord Peter Whimsey mystery is well worth reading. If you like British detectives, try this: I will re-read Sawyers books again and again.
A wonderful mystery story with a main character reminiscent of Hercule Poirot or Father Brown. However, Lord Peter Wimsey has his own delightful foibles and aspires to apply the methods of Sherlock Holmes.
I love anything written by Sayers.
Not my favorite
It’s always nice to delve back into the world of Lord Peter Wimsey. There were some laugh out loud moments and the mystery was good too. A lot of melodrama but all in all a good read.
Dorothy L Sayers was the best!
