She’s just a country girl who loves her dog…and her cat…and her pig. But protecting them from a killer might suck the sweet right out of her bucolic little world.
Pence Lucklin has always had the luck of the Irish, though he’s about as far from Irish as you can get. It is, after all, how he got his nickname, Lucky Lucklin. But it appears that his luck has run out in a big way. That’s putting it … putting it mildly, I guess. Since Lucky just turned up dead, hanging from a tool hook at my family’s auction business.
Was Lucky’s death meant as a warning for me? Could this mean the return of an old villain? Will Hal and I be called on to help the local Deer Hollow police find a killer?
In the end, luck probably won’t have much to do with the outcome. Luck can be made. And as death stalks the people I love, I’m fully prepared to force the hand of fate and create my own luck. Or die trying.

Lucky no more and poor Joey is fix’en to sell her parents old business. But first she and Hal need to find out who the neighborhood killer is.
Joey and her mom decide it is time to sell the hundred acre space known as Fulle-Proof Auctions. Her father wasn’t coming back and neither one of them would be running the business. But during the process of getting the place ready to be sold, things go terribly wrong. Murders, fire, and a horrible scare has Joey involved in solving the mystery and wondering if the man she loves is gone forever. This was a fantastic read that kept you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out the who, what and why. This book is action packed, full of suspense, and I had a hard time putting it down. I thoroughly enjoyed every story in this series, from start to finish and everything in between. I love the relationship between Joey and Hal grow and now a new relationship might be brewing between Arno and Lis. Of course, Caphy, LaLee and Ethel Squeaks is fabulous.
If you read any of Sam Cheever’s stories/series, you know she is a talented and gifted storyteller with a knack for intrigue, mystery and a bit of romance thrown in the mix just for fun! This latest installment of her Country Bumpkin series does NOT disappoint!!! Making the decision to sell her parents auction house gave Joey a sense of closure…or so she thought. That is, until Lucky Luckin is found hanging around the building…literally! This event sets several more in to action as Joey and Hal try to unravel the mystery of who killed this man. One clue leads to more bodies and the mysterious appearance of an old enemy. The suspense is riveting. Thank heaven there is a dog, a cat with attitude and an adorable potbellied pig to break the tension and make you laugh as they frolic and play throughout the tale. This is a great, fast paced series that you need to read!!!!!
I love Sam Cheever’s books. This one was great and super surprising! I was totally clueless about who the bad people were until it was revealed! I love when that happens! It keeps me so intrigued!

If your name is Lucky, how Lucky is it when you wind up murdered? Guess what Hal, Joey, Caphy are up to in this book?
Are you like me when you read a mystery? Looking for the clues and trying to figure it out before the reveal? Isn’t that why we read them?
Well then you will love this one, even if you have not read others in the series. It will lead down so any rabbit holes that it will be easy to miss the clues that lead you to the who done it. I almost missed it. Love that in a mystery.
Easy, fun to read mystery. Definitely can be read by itself but will encourage you to go back and catch up on the previous books.
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
Sam Cheever is one of my favorite authors. She writes a funny but well fleshed out cozy. Wonderful characters fill the books in this series. Keeps you turning the pages long past your bed time.

This book had me guessing til the end. I had multiple guesses to who the real killer was but it wasn’t any of them! There were twists and turns that had me turning the page when I should have been sleeping. I love how Joey and Hal work together and their love for joeys pets. I can’t wait to see what new adventures Joey can get herself into (and her hunk hal to help her)!
I really enjoy Joey and Hal, and Cheever’s writing is so much fun to read. And the animals are so much cute…I want my own Ethel Squeaks 🙂
If you haven’t started this series, grab it now! They’re quick reads but still strong on details.

Even though this is a murder story, it is done with great flair and humor as in all of Sam Cheevers books. I love this series! It has everything you could want in a story… great flowing storyline, animals, humor, and great characters. You will be reading it and forget all about the time! I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book from Booksprout.
I really enjoy all of Sam Cheevers stories. The characters are well written and Ms. Cheever portrays realistic small town atmosphere that extends to the characters as well. Unlucky Bumpkin has characters that you’ll fall in love with, including a big lovable Pitty, one bi-polar cat, a funny little pig and a hunk of a cop turned private investigator. Add a many layered mystery with many twists and turns, and at least one surprising revelation and you have a cozy mystery with all the basics of a full length book: murder, romance, people good and bad.
Joey has finally decided to sell her parent’s auction business. While cleaning it out she discovers a dead man. Could the man that killled her father and is after her mother be back in town?

Joey finally wants to let go of her parents’ auction business and while cleaning it out with her PI boyfriend she discovers a dead man. Finding out what happened to him and who killed him brings up old fears and insecurities. When her nemesis shows up in their little town tension gets really high….
A suspenseful cozy, fairly full of action and quite a few surprises. A lovely, entertaining story. You could start the series at any book, but the story is deeper if you know the background of Joey and her friends.

Joey is ready to let go of her family auction site. Hal comes to support her through the sale. As they are packing up belongings, they go to the Annex and make a gruesome discovery. Joey is plunged into a mystery of murders, betrayal, and the threat of a dangerous enemy. Sam Cheever has created a page turner with brilliant characters that are like old friends, including a dog, a cat, and a hilarious pig.

You need to meet Caphy, LaLee, and Ethel.
Sam Cheever is up to her old tricks again writing a perfectly wonderful cozy! Set in Deer Hallow Lucky is murdered is it an old villain or someone new? Can this simple country girl who has a dog, cat, and pet pig solve the mystery? I love it when I am not sure who did it till the ending and this one left me guessing. The flow and writing were excellent with Hal and Joey being such great characters I was so engaged in this piece. If you are looking for a jam-packed tale this is the one to pick up. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Big City Thugs Hit the Hollow
This is an exciting and non-stop action episode of Country Cousins. The animals more than earn their keep as well as keep a smile on everyone’s face. While this episode could stand alone, the reader will enjoy it so much more by reading the series in order. I have really enjoyed this series and am almost ready to do a binge-read on all of the books. I received this ARC book for free from Booksprouts and this is my honest review.
A good, clean romantic mystery.
I really enjoy a good, clean, well-told, romantic mystery. There are a few red herrings in this entertaining whodunit. I was stumped to name the murderer until the reveal at the end and that is always fun. I like the romance interlaced into the story. Hal and Joey are such a cute couple that have each other’s back. I can imagine that a romance between two of the other characters in this story may be written into future books in this series. At least I girl can hope. I recommend this book to anyone who loves to delve into a good murder mystery with a bit of romance woven into the story.

Joey returns with another mystery. While checking her parents auction park for sale, she turns up a dead body. Of course, a dead body leads to lots of trouble and Joey seems to find it all. Along with her boyfriend Hal, her Siamese cat, pitbull, and a pot-bellied pig. Enjoyable story.
I loved Unlucky Bumpkin! This book is entertaining and fun. I love the characters. The plot is fast paced and exciting. I did not want to put the book down. There are so many twists and turns that you are kept guessing until the very end. I highly recommend this book.
