What an awesome book! This is the third story in Pamela Clare’s I-Team series, and it’s my favorite so far. In fact, it’s one of the best novels I’ve read in a while. I couldn’t wait to see what happened next, and I cared deeply for the characters.
The story starts with a sweet interlude between the orphan Sophie and the hard foster kid Marc when they’re both in high school. Flash forward to twelve years later, and Sophie’s an investigative reporter for a paper in Denver. Marc Hunter hasn’t fared so well–he’s in prison for murdering a fellow DEA agent. But is justice being served by him being locked away for life?
I love prison stories, and this one certainly did not disappoint. Sophie unknowingly writes an article about Marc’s drug-addicted sister having a baby in prison, setting plans in motion for Sophie and Marc’s paths to collide once again.
Marc is such a yummy wounded hero. He is a good man who’s been forced to make impossible choices to try to protect his sister, and he will stop at nothing to keep protecting the women he loves. His nickname for Sophie, “Sprite”, is so cute.
I was so engrossed in the story that I didn’t bookmark as many quotes as I typically do, though Marc watching Sophie go to lunch with an unknown man did make me chuckle:
“A man Marc didn’t recognize smiled back and hurried toward her—dark hair, five-ten, one-eighty, in his early forties. He wore an ugly, dark suit and sported a thick mustache that might have looked good on Tom Selleck in 1981 but looked stupid now.”
Ha ha. Jealous much, Marc?
Ms. Clare does a wonderful job of weaving in the supporting I-Team cast but this is clearly Sophie and Marc’s story to tell. And it ends beautifully, leaving me with a satisfied smile. I can’t recommend this book enough.
Another excellent book by Pamela Clare. Marc risks everything to save his sister, Meeting Sophie, he enlists her help in a very unusual way. She continues the search to save the woman and her child. And she manages to save Marc as well and sets him free.
I’m #TeamMarc forever. This book was my gateway drug to romantic suspense, and it’s a favourite re-read. They have a history! She doesn’t recognize him when they reunite, though, because HE’S IN PRISON! And then he takes her hostage.
HOSTAGE. So he can escape, obvs, to clear his name.
This entire series–and her entire catalogue is the best of romance, but this book is extra-special.
OMG I loved Unlawful Contact soooo much. Marc and Sophie were amazing. I loved the plot, and I loved the action, and I loved the passion. So to wrap that up I loved everything about this book! Marc was sexy AF. Sophie was sweet and Smart. Pamela Clare writes phenomenal books. I can’t wait for the next book! Short sweet and to the point lol
This is where is started people, the bromance between Julian Darcangelo and Marc Hunter, enemies on different sides of the law. I affectionately like to call them Marc-Angelo… Humm I suppose I should start at the beginning…
Marc Hunter was the most sought after boy in high school who went on to service his country and then became a DEA officer.. Now he is serving a 10 year prison sentence for murder.
Sophie Alton got one night with that boy in high school that she’s never forgotten. Sophie went on to become a journalist for one of Denver’s top Newspaper. Her latest story has to do with a woman she has been following she since gave birth shackled in prison. (note: that subject – women giving birth in prison being chained to the bed was something the author herself investigated when she was a journalist) . When Sophie hears the woman escaped with her baby during a scheduled visit she is shocked and scared for her.
When Marc finds out his sister is on the run with her baby he knows her life is in danger and he plans an escape to find her before the bad people after her do. After luring Sophie to the prison in the disguise of giving an interview he instead takes her hostage and escapes.
From here on its non stop action as Hunter races to find his sister with both law enforcement and the bad guys on his tale.. One of the men is a exFBI agent now with DPD Julian Darcangelo who is the husband of Sophie’s friend and co-worker (Tessa/Julian from Hard Evidence).
I absolutely loved this story. Certainly doesn’t start out as your typical romance with Marc being more of a anti-hero but its not long before you know the whole story and realize he is a great man that would do anything to protect his family and those he loves. He and Sophie defiantly have their share of crap to get through to get to their HEA but ohh the ride was so worth it.
2nd time around for Marc and Sophie.
Hunt and Sprite were the epitome of young love but they got ripped apart by other demands. Now Marc has managed to escape prison to look for his half-sister who is in trouble up to her neck, with her young baby in danger too. His only lead is Sophie – so he takes her hostage in the hope she can shed some light on Megan’s whereabouts!
Sophie takes a while to recognise Marc which I found a bit jarring but i suppose if you’re not looking for your first love in a prison cell then you might get caught unawares! LOL ! A beautiful story of long awaited love and how families can be what you make them, not what you’re born with
Captivating story. Brought to light hard life issues in prison reform in a hard hitting manner. Intertwined emotions with a fast pace
. Will definitely add Pamela Clarke to my favorite authors. Hard hitting, fast pace, captivating, great twist in the story line.
