From nationally bestselling author Kristina Cook comes an award-winning historical romance set in Regency England–first time in digital! All Lucy Abbington wants is to get through her first London season without losing sight of her true ambition—gaining some informal training in veterinary arts so that she can retire peacefully to the countryside with her beloved horses. Instead, she’s caught up … she’s caught up in a whirlwind of balls, marriage proposals, and ton intrigues. Worse, she finds herself irresistibly drawn to her sponsors’ maddening neighbor, Henry Ashton, the Marquess of Mandeville. The handsome, arrogant, sometimes infuriating Mandeville stokes a passionate fire within her that won’t be denied, no matter the consequence.
Deep, emotional scars secretly plague Henry, Lord Mandeville. As a result, he’s avoided romantic entanglements at all costs. Only, now he needs a wife—someone from a wealthy, powerful family to further his political aspirations. Instead, he finds himself all but obsessed with the beautiful but unconventional Lucy Abbington—a woman whose passions and wit stir desires he’d rather ignore. And yet…she might just be the one woman who can heal his wounded heart.
Lucy and Henry’s heads say no, but their hearts say yes. Will they find themselves undone by love?

Very interesting. Lots of intrigue surrounding Captain Lacey’s background of service & current circumstances. His search for a missing girl & her maid take on horrific overtones. Evil is surely afoot in reagency England. Both happy & sad notes.
Duty, honor, pride, station, all of the things that cause people to act certain ways. When all of that is taken away and people get to be themselves stories like Lucy and Henry’s happen.
A nice twist on the “girl next door”! I loved that the main characters are smart and really do work to better their communities. It was refreshing to read that in a Regency romance!
A fabulous, admirable story of hidden, unrecognised and misunderstood intimacy becoming fruitful!
Good story – toooooo much sex,
Predictable romance with lots of twists. A faithless mother trying to marry off her son Henry in order to increase her status. A stubborn Marquis Henry who is blind to his own feelings and is set upon a path that will ruin his life. Various empty-headed young debutants on the marriage market. A young woman, Lucy, reluctantly participating in a …
The more Regency Romances I read — and I’ve read quite a few lately — the more I notice that the heroines are strong-minded, independent women. And more than a few of them have “unwomanly” interests on their minds! This definitely goes in a direction unexpected — veterinarian medicine! WOW! You’ve really got to sympathize with her when suddenly …
A good story. Not a cliffhanger so the entire read was there but there are more books available that involve the additional characters in case you want to continue the series. Very enjoyable.
Fun book to read
Very well written and entertaining read
I didn’t read much of this book. Mostly language I didn’t like. Too raunchy for me.
A good author. Follow her!!!
I enjoyed the book. Different from many of the historical romances. Easy read.
Loved the story showcasing the fact that girls can do things too — romantic take as well.
I really liked how vulnerable the male lead character was under his false bravado.
too predictable
Might there be woman like this heroine all over the world who defy convention to achieve their goals. What a nice story that keeps you glued to it by twists and turns. Loved it
An excellent read! Thoroughly enjoyed the entire story!
Good
I thought the book was wonderful, the main character is pulled into a love that her head goes against but her heart longs for that love. A wonderful book, would recommend this book to anyone who likes steamy and mysterious romance.
