I don’t want to hear about how happy she is, how everything turned out just the way it should have. Well, it didn’t. She should have been with me.The sequel to Intentional, the debut romantic novel by MK Harkins, Unintentional is the heart-racing new work that follows the tangled thread of Cade in the aftermath of his heartbreak in losing the one woman he thought was his soul mate. After taking … mate. After taking a hiatus from his job as an engineer, as well as his role in the band as lead singer, Cade reemerges in the Seattle music scene.
Enter Laurel, the tenacious and determined music agent. Laurel is determined to sign him, no matter how clearly reluctant he is. Though they try to resist one another romantically, the magnetism is as immediate as it is powerful.
Cade has every reason to steer clear of commitment and train his soulful eyes, heart-melting dimples, and sexy voice on every beauty competing for his attention. So why does he find himself truly, deeply, and unintentionally fixated on the one woman who is not so easily swept away?

“Betrayal. Whether it is friendship or romantic love, it always leaves the one betrayed with the burden of forgiveness.”
This novel was like a fresh breath of air on a crisp fall morning. The cover couldn’t have been more perfect for it! And everything from the cover till the last page was a beautiful story about love, betrayal and its heartbreak, and the healing that can come from forgiveness. Intentional surely stands out among typical romance novels I read lately. Gather up your cozy blanket, favorite cup of coffee or tea, and a box of tissues, and dive into the stories of Mattie, Jeremy, and Sarah.
There is a certain flow of this story that takes some time to get used to. I promise that it makes sense in the long run. It does stay confusing for a bit but if you stick it out you will be glad you did. Everything I had thought this book would be was completely different by the end. I was completely shocked with the twists and turns, and I loved every moment of it.
Loosely and vaguely, because I can’t bear to spoil this novel, this story is told from the point of views of each, Mattie, Jeremy, and Sarah. We get glimpses of their past, their present, and their future.
Mattie and Sarah have known each other for what seems like forever. They are twins in almost everything they do. Even now as the two are moving to Sedona for a new careers. Mattie is starting at a new law firm there and this is where we meet Jeremy.
Jeremy is a different kind of male lead character than we are used to. He knows his life needs some improvements. Maybe even a lady that he could call his own and care for. As soon as he meets Mattie he sees all the character traits he is looking for.
Sarah is not who you think she is at first. Something is not right here and it isn’t exactly clear at first. It is apparent that she has different motives for her friendship with Mattie than Mattie does. Mattie’s devotions to their friendship is a no strings attached kind of love. Sarah, not so much. I won’t lie, I DID NOT LIKE Sarah, not one bit.
Just when you think you are reading an easy happily ever after story it all changes in the blink of an eye. Mattie is forced to face the burden of betrayal. Can she forgive and forget to salvage things with the love of her life?
“How did anyone ever recover from something like that?”
I am anxiously awaiting for the second book in the Intentional Series, Unintentional. I can’t wait to find out what is in store for Cade and his journey. I can only hope it is as shell-shocking and gripping as this one.
I’m a tough reader. I can’t help it. I’m slow with little time to do it, so I have to choose my material wisely. If a book doesn’t grab me, like, instantly, if the writing is mediocre, if the voice doesn’t quite fit, then I toss that book like a hot tamale. I won’t review it, because, for the most part, I don’t review books I don’t like or finish. Obviously, since I’ve posted this review, you’ve come to realize, Unintentional is NONE of those things.
First, let me start by saying I read Harkins’ debut, Intentional, and I really enjoyed it. In a world now slathered neck-deep in smut and titillation, it was refreshing to read a sweet, clean romance. And Harkins’ follow-up adopts a similar course, though the author did add a bit more spice.
Now, I have a lot to say about the story itself, but what struck me most—immediately, in fact—when I started reading Unintentional, is the tremendous growth MK Harkins has shown since her debut. To be honest, I was astounded. Rarely do you see this much growth between books, especially in this genre. And yet, there it is. This is an author who listened to her fans and critics alike and cared enough to hone her craft. I respect that—a lot.
Unintentional is an easy read, and that’s a very good thing, as it should be. A book should never be about the author or the words, or the words being a tribute to the author, but rather the story, and Harkins manages that expertly. She’s dedicated to bringing her readers an enjoyable escape with relatable characters, and, this time around, there’s even a little bit of the whodunit, which surprised me, and actually had me guessing—wrongly, I might add, because she threw in enough red herrings to throw me off balance. That rarely happens to me, by the way.
Now, I’m not going to rehash the synopsis. You can read that above and probably in one out every two reviews that will be posted here. What I will tell you is, I was Team Cade in Intentional. I liked Jeremy, but Cade is more my type, and I was a little pissed when Mattie made her decision. But now I’m glad she did, or we’d never have Cade’s story or Laurel or the irresistible Sophie, Laurel’s sidekick and champion. (Personally, I hope Sophie’s story is next. *Hint, hint*, Ms. Harkins.)
I think what I enjoyed most about Unintentional, what I hope for when I pick up any book, is the level of emotion the author macerates the story in. I need that, especially in a romance. I need angst and upheaval, heartbreak and tragedy, push and pull, and Unintentional delivers on all fronts. And believe it or not, Harkins delivers it with a remarkable amount of humor mixed in, so it never gets too heavy or bogged down. I’d say it’s perfectly balanced, and, as we all, as romance readers, want it to end—no cliffhanger, no happy-for-now, no WTF—just a satisfying HEA that will leave you with a dreamy sigh and a contented smile.
Unintentional is the second instalment of the Intentional series and follows Cade and his story after the end of the first novel. Although this book can stand alone and does give a quick summary of the first novel at the beginning of the book, I’d definitely recommend reading the first book before this one because then Cade’s character and history is more familiar! And this therefore gives more of an explanation as to why he is holding himself back from Laurel. I love how powerful Laurel’s character is and how she really holds her own around Cade! I also really enjoyed the description of the romance and the connection between Cade and Laurel as it was written so well and really added to their growing relationship. Overall, this is a really great romantic novel which will intrigue and grip you throughout! I’d 100% recommend!
This is book 2 in the Intentional Series. Does this mean there will be more? Maybe a story about Sophia!? Scott? Ayden?
I am so happy to read about Cade. He was a character in book one. He was a life saver for Mattie when her so called best friend, Sarah, betrayed her, tried to steal not only her fiancé but her happiness and eventually her life as well. Cade was there to pick up the pieces and actually fell in love with Mattie. At least he thought is was love. Until Laurel. I would sigh at this point but there are hot together! Laurel and Cade are more explosive than any other couple I have ever read about!
“Every time I kissed Laurel, it was different. There was always passion, too much passion.”
This story was easy to read as was the first book in this series. Many of the main characters were minor characters in book one, so reading Intentional first is helpful. The first few chapters are devoted to Cade’s feelings. I loved seeing how Cade came to terms with his feelings. His epiphany of sorts while talking with Mattie and Jeremy. I loved that this story included characters from the first book. I look forward to reading “something” else by Harkins.
It is always refreshing when you are able to go back and read a book by an author that was newly introduced, but that made an impact on the readers. This is what I felt when I started Unintentional by MK Harkins. I loved watching how the author grew as a writer within these books.
I have to say that although Cade’s story begins with a heart break, it’s quite nice to see where his story goes. Every decision and choice that is made has in impact. And it’s those impacts that I was thrilled to see. I loved his character, and was more than happy to cheer for him. I was hopeful for his future as well as who would stay in his life. I loved his journey – as well as the other characters that were introduced in this book.
I’m definitely looking forward to reading more books by this author. This was a definite 5 Stars for me!
Well i knew right from the start i was going to fall in love with this novel just like i did when i read intentional, wow just a brilliant read. I was hooked i wanted to see Cade have his happy ending after his heartbreak which is why i was so glad to be able to go on his journey in this novel. After the first novel i thought nothing could beat it but i was so wrong this was to me even better, i found it flowed more the emotions poured of the pages and i was completely and utterly captivated. When i got to the end of the novel i was ecstatic to see there was going to be a book 3! Don’t worry this doesn’t end in a cliffhanger but it will leave you wanting more from this author that’s for sure.
Unintentional by MK Harkins
Four Stars
Unintentional is the second book in the Intentional Series By MK Harkin. This book can be read as a stand alone, but I can’t think of one reason why you wouldn’t want to read Intentional first. They are both great reads and if you read them in order you will get the full back story on Cade. This book had me hooked from the very first page and I just couldn’t put it down till I read the last page. This book is filled with suspense, action and romance. This book flowed amazingly well and I was sad to see it end but it looks like we will get a third book in the series. Something to look forward to! This is such a great series, I highly recommend this book and author.
5 Stars
Unintentional is the second book in the Intentional series by M.K Harkins. I absolutely loved Intentional (Book #1) and was both happy and sad at the end of the book- happy because Mattie and Jeremy found their happiness- but sad because Cade was hurt in the process. I really loved him in that book- so I was really excited to find that he would get his own story and a chance to find happiness, once more. I did have a lot of expectation and knowing how the story had ended in book one I felt Cade deserved an epic story of his own to make up for the way things played out- also, I was very interested to find out what happened to him in the two years between the end of Intentional and the epilogue that followed. We get a tiny snippet, from Mattie’s point of view, and a bit of a glimpse at how this story may start off- but I really wanted to know what happened. I really think Ms. Harkins has done a superb job with this book- it’s excellent- every bit as good as the first, if not better! Even though it is book two and the sequel to the first story- you could read this as a standalone, as Ms. Harkins does a great job of recapping the whole thing (from Cade’s POV)- but having said that, I still recommend reading Intentional first, because it’s there that you will fall in love with the story and the characters- which will enhance this reading experience for you.
As with the first book, the characters are wonderful, beautifully developed and fully realised individuals. I love Cade even more now than in the first book, he’s so swoony- the perfect book boyfriend, and I am definitely adding him to my harem. Hey Ho!!! I wasn’t sure I was going to like Laurel, especially after Mattie- but I soon found myself changing my tune and am a big fan of hers now! And again, there is a lot going on in the story- and a lot more to the story and characters than first meets the eye. There was so much suspense, surprising and sometimes shocking and heart stopping revelations and developments. I devoured the story in one sitting, just so I could find out how the story played out!
Perfect!
I wonder what Ms. Harkins will do next? I can’t wait!
Thank you, Ms. Harkins!!
Unintentional in the second novel in the Intentional series by M. K. Harkins. This is my second novel by this author.
Following the events of the first book, Cade takes a break from his engineering job as well as his band. Mattie getting back with her fiancée hurt him a lot so he distances himself.
Laurel is an entertainment manager and sees potential in Cade for a contract. But can an awkward first meeting be more? Can she bring him back from the edge?
It was pleasant surprise to start the novel from Cade’s point of view from the first point. On how he tried not to fall for Mattie but realized it was too late.
I had hoped we would get a happy ending for Cade and it was an emotional rollercoaster I enjoyed every minute of.
It was great seeing Cade come back to life and fall for someone else.
It was even great seeing Mattie and Jeremy and where they are in their lives.
I hope we get another book.
Unintentional is a novel by MK Harkins, is the second book in the two book Intentional series, and is a romantic suspense novel. It is the story of Cade, who is the lead singer in a rock band that mostly performs on the weekends, and he also had a career as an engineer on Mondays through Fridays, from 9 to 5. Cade lives on a houseboat in a small town that is in a suburb of Seattle, Washington. One weekend Cade was staying at his friend, Sam’s and Sam’s wife, Julianne’s cabin in Verlot, Washington, to just get away and have a chance to think about his life and career path. As he was standing on the bank of the Stillamaguish River, Cade notices a beautiful woman with long, dark hair, and he can’t take his eyes off of her; then Cade sees her suitcase in the cabin, and it turns out that this woman is staying at the cabin, too. The woman’s name is Mattie, and she has recently moved to the Seattle area from Sedona, Arizona. Mattie is a graphic designer, and she is a friend of Sam’s wife, Julianne. Mattie was invited to stay at the cabin for the weekend by Julianne, but she had no idea that Cade would be staying for the weekend, too. Just as Mattie was thinking about leaving the cabin, her phone began to ring and it turns out that it was Julianne calling her. Julianne was calling Mattie to tell her that Sam had told Cade that he could stay at the cabin, too, and that they had just realized this fact; Julianne let Mattie know that Cade was a very good friend of Sam’s, and she was apologizing for the mix up. Mattie thinks about leaving the cabin since she is not so sure that she wants to stay at the cabin with a man that she doesn’t know, but she decides to stay at the cabin after talking to Julianne.
The story is also about a young woman whose name is Laurel. Laurel is a music agent who lives in LA, but she has come to the Seattle with her assistant whose name is Sophie, to try to sign Cade and his band mates, whose band is called “Hard Reign”, to a music contract, since she has heard wonderful things about them. For some reason in the past the band had not wanted to sign a contract with anyone. Laurel and Sophie were also in Seattle so that they could finally see Hard Reign perform. Laurel knows that if the band is as good as she has heard that they are that they could go on to become extremely successful. If she can talk the band into signing a contract with her, Hard Reign could go on to record their first album, and then also begin touring the country. Laurel knows that Cade is the one reluctant to sign a contract, and she knows that she has to find out why. Laurel had heard that Cade was unmarried and that he didn’t currently have a girlfriend, so there should really be nothing that should be holding him back. Laurel had “made it her mission” to find out why Cade has been so reluctant to sign a contract in the past. Laurel really wants to sign this band to a contract after seeing them and watching them perform.
I really enjoyed this novel by MK Harkins. It is the conclusion of the story that the author told us in the first book in this series titled, “Intentional”. I don’t want to tell anything more about what happens between the characters in this series since I don’t want to give away any spoilers. I will tell you that this book should definitely be read after “Intentional”, or else you will not understand what is going on. This book has a very interesting plot, and the characters are complex and wonderful. I really loved this series, and I would recommend it to all lovers of romantic suspense.
Unintentional was a great 5 star read and is book two in the Intentional series.
With how Intentional ended I was happy to get Cade’s story. The story flows very well and it is in alternating POVs which I love.
The way that Laurel and Cade first meet was a great. Laurel is determined to get Cade’s band signed and he enjoys pushing Laurel’s buttons. These two have quite the connection, I liked what Cade brought out in Laurel. I really liked Laurel, she is sassy and challenged Cade at every turn.
There is so much to this great read, several twists and turns that will surprise you.
I had so many different emotions while reading and I was on the edge of my seat at times. Once I started I didn’t want to stop until I was done. The secondary characters added a great element to the story as well. This can be read as a stand alone, however I highly suggest reading book 1 first.
Unintentional
By MK Harkins
Unintentional is book two in the Intentional series by MK Harkins. I have to say I enjoyed this book just as much as I enjoyed the first. Talking about the first book which is Intentional you need to read that one first solely to get a background on the awesome characters. I found this book a quick read and I am sure you will to. We get to meet new characters in this book in the form of Sophie, Ayden and not forgetting Scott. We still have Cade and Laurel which was good to see. Sophie, I think would make a great main character, while Sophie is very loyal she to has her own heartbreak from childhood which does have her questioning exactly what love is. If you like a rollercoaster read, then this is the book for you. But like I said before start with Intentional.
Unintentional is Book 2 in the Intentional series from author M K Hawkins.
This is my fourth read from this author and I continue to enjoy every read even more than the last. This book was a brilliant sequel to Book 1 Intentional in fact I think I enjoyed it even more than the last, it was captivating and completely compelling. once again this author has created such an incredible read, with an amazing plot that flows from start to finish that going into to much detail in this review will give too much away so I’m going for short and sweet again!
This was an amazing plot that started right back up after the events on Book 1 with some amazing characters such as Cade – you can’t help but love him especially after everything that happened. This time we get another chance to see his story and follow his journey and hope that he finally gets his chance for a HEA. Could that be with Laurel? Has she got what it takes to make Cade realise that he can take another chance and give his heart to someone else – without it getting broken?
This is filled with twists and turns that leave you wondering what will happen and just when you think you have it all figured out it completely throws you again but you can’t help but still be totally and utterly captivated by this read!
All these are amazing characters just make this read that even more impressive. M.K Harkins have given us more amazing main characters and secondary characters that help support and impact the story even more.
I loved that we got this read in multiple POV’s as we got to really understand each persons thoughts and feelings and the reasons in why they do what they do. I really connected even more with the characters in this way, this author already has created real, relatable characters but this makes them even better.
M.K Harkins has made another incredible read that should be read by all! I can’t wait to see what else she bring to this series and what other works this author can do!
Unitentional is the second book in the series Intentional by MK Hawkins. I have to say that I fell in love Cade in the first book and I just could not wait to read about him in this book. MK Hawkins has created an alternate world for me to go and have my imagination take over when the story ends. Her characters are fully developed and easy to bond with (again book boyfriend). There is something to say when you can be reading her story and fall in love with the main character. There were times that I was laughing so much that it hurt my stomach and crying real tears with the actions in the book. If you have the time and you want to have book boyfriend I would read the Intentional series.
Unintentional (Intentional series book 2)
By M.K. Harkins
5 stars
After LOVING book 1 I couldn’t wait to start book 2 and I wasn’t disappointed at all! I loved the unique storyline and I have to admit I had a hard time putting it down to resume some kind of normal life! The writing was brilliant and flowed beautifully. I loved Cade in the first book and I adored him in this one. I loved that he was finally getting his own story. I think the author did a great job in getting across the emotions that Cade has with regards to Mattie, I could really feel for him. There was so much going on in this story which made it all the more exciting to read.
I loved it when Cade and Laurel met, even I felt something! They seemed like the perfect couple and I was hoping that Cade was going to find the person to spend his happily ever after with! Their first kiss was HOT!!
A fabulous second book in this series and I can’t wait for more from M.K. Harkins in the future.
Unintentional (Intentional Series Book 2) by MK Harkins
5 Stars
LOVED LOVED LOVED it!! I jumped into this book right after reading Intentional, which I loved, I think I might have actually liked this one even more if that’s possible. Again, a unique storyline that spreads over time and actually picks up right at the end of the first book.
I fell in love with the main character of this book in the second half of the first book and was so happy to see him get his own story. Not going to give any names because it will kind of be a spoiler for what happened in Intentional.
Again the flow was awesome and I read it in a very short time because I just couldn’t put it down. I love the way this author places perfectly little twists and turns that have you wondering what is happening, and thinking you have it figured out when in fact your way off base.
I loved the friendship bonds in this story and I think Sophie was one of my favorite characters and hope that somewhere along the line she will get her own story, it seems that could go many different directions.
This author has become a favorite and I will be watching for anything she comes up with next.
Awesome!!
Unintentional by MK Harkins is the second book in the Intentional series. I loved this book and srring things from Cade’s point of view, especially his relationship with Mattie.
Feeling his pain and heartbreak as he was trying to get over Mattie and move on with his life just made me want to hug him at least at first. Then I wanted to smack him.
Sophie and Scott had me laughing which wasn’t the easiest thing to accomplish the last few days.
I loved Laurel and Cade’s story. They seemed like a a more realistic couple with some of the issues they dealt with.
I’m hoping there will be more books in this series. Really curious to see who Allix and Sophie end up with, not sure if it will be who we are all anticipating.
Unintentional by MK Harkins is the second book in the Intentional Series. Another great book that will have you hooked from the first page. Cade is still not doing well with losing the one he cared for deeply. He goes off to deal with his issues. Time away has helped him get his life back in order. Laurel comes into his life and does not give up on him. Cade is not sure about Laurel, because he has been hurt before. Will Cade let his heart win?
MK Harkins has a way with her words. Her writing is very engaging and flows with ease. The characters are well developed and are very believable. MK Harkins gets you to feel the emotions that the characters go through. I highly recommend Unintentional!
Unintentional is the second book in MK Harkins’ Intentional series and I have to say that after reading her debut book of Intentional, I was blown away by how much more Unintentional was. I fell in love with Cade in book 1 and I understood why Mattie did not choose him and I was hoping, hard, that Cade would get his own story and yes, it took two years (the timeline in the stories) to get him to his story but man, what a story it was – angst, heartbreak, up and down, push and pull, a bit of humour to keep it from getting too heavy and then all those amazing ‘sidekicks’ (Sophie and Shirley and Scott and ….) that I hope will keep the series going!
Thank you for giving us a simple story that has no cliffhanger, no ‘i-wonder-what-comes-next’, just a beautiful romance between two amazing characters – Cade and Laurel – we do not need craziness in every single story we read!
M.K. Harkins’ Unintentional is the second book of the Intentional series. This inspirational romantic comedy that is captivating and continued multiple character POV within the novel. This story was addictive and a page turner, couldn’t put it down. Cade’s character is the epitome of that bad boy allure that you just want to tame or find that secret way to get within that hard shell that is just begging to be cracked. There is a mix of dynamics running about within the story that keep it suspenseful and attractive at the same time. By the time I finished this story, I knew this was an author I enjoyed!
