The 2nd novella in the MacArthur family series, Unintended Target is good!
Even though you know who the culprit is, pretty early, it’s still exciting to see how everything plays out.
Patience and Brodie got off to a great/then rocky/then good start. You think you know what’s going to happen, but Katie threw some curveballs in this one, so it was really an edge of your seat kind of read.
I must say, I also hope we get Trevor’s story in there because he was EXTREMELY captivating as a secondary character.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book.
UNINTENDED TARGET (MacArthur Family Book 2) by Katie Reus
This is a sweet little novella that is a romantic suspense about Patience and Brodie. Patience is a kindergarten teacher who gets talked into helping a family friend with a temporary nanny position during her summer break. Brodie is the head of security at the estate. Sparks fly when they get off on the wrong foot, but it doesn’t take long for those sparks to change to attraction. This is a 5 star story.
This is the second book in the MacArthur Family and it is wonderful. Patience gives up her summer plans and agrees to a temporary nanny position as a favor. She never expected to be attracted to Brodie MacArthur the head of security at her temporary nanny job. This was a sweet novella that keeps you hanging on and consumes you. I loved the characters and the slow romance.
4.5 stars. I am loving this series so far. So easy and quick to read but plenty of good story and great characters. Brodie MacArthur is our hero for this one. He is head of security for Trevor, who asks Patience, a family friend to be his nanny for the summer. Patience is a school teacher who is off for the summer so she agrees to help Trevor out. Brodie is not so thrilled that Trevor let someone in without being vetted by him first given the problems with threats. So there are definitely a few issues about that and Brodie does not get off to good start with Patience. But Brodie and Patience clearly have an attraction and some chemistry that they eventually find a way to explore. He ends up being her protector which is really sweet.
I really like them together and loved this story.
This is book 2 in the MacArthur Family series and can absolutely be read as a standalone! In this one we get Brodie and Patience’s story. Patience is an elementary school teacher who has already planned out her summer when her mother asks her for a favor for a friend. Be a temporary nanny. When she agrees, she never expected to not only butt heads with the head of security, or to be attracted to him. Brodie made a mistake with Patience, and that one mistake ruined how she thinks of him. But when she falls ill, and he realizes that it’s more than just being sick, he will do what he has to in order to keep her safe. And show her that they are more to each other than they eve thought they could be.
I really liked this one! I was a little bit leery just with the way Brodie was acting at first but once I realized why he did the things he did, I actually liked him more. Their chemistry was off the charts from the start. The banter back and forth made me laugh a lot of the times. And the suspense kept me interested. As usual with most series that I read and like, the side characters also made me want to know more. I know there isn’t a book planned for Brodie’s boss, but I for one would love to have a story for him as well! He deserves a HEA too! This was definitely an enjoyable read for me!
Brodie MacArtthur is a security guy for Trevor, a wealthy businessman who has recently acquired custody of his nephew when his brother and his wife were killed in a helicopter crash. Trevor has hired nannies to help him with the 10-month-old, but they keep quitting on him. He’s hiring through a reputable agency, he pays them well, and treats them kindly, so he can’t figure out why they’re quitting. In desperation, he hires Patience, a kindergarten teacher that’s off for the summer.
Patience has plans for the summer that don’t include taking care of a little boy, but takes pity on Trevor and takes the job on a temporary basis. What she isn’t counting on is Brodie MacArthur.
To her, Brodie is seriously sexy and she’s having all sorts of improper thoughts about him. But he’s also serious about his job. To say anymore would mean spoilers and I don’t want to ruin this story for anybody else.
This is a short book. I had it read in just a few hours. There’s tension between Brodie and Patience and some steamy moments. There’s intrigue and subterfuge that wound up for a good ending.
*I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
Unintended Target the second novella in the MacArthur Family Series is a character driven story with two extremely likable characters. Katie Reus gives us the always-in-control Brodie MacArthur. This is good since he is head of security for Trevor Robinson, who is overwhelmed with work and personal situations. This is not so good when Brodie jumps the gun with temp nanny Patience Carras. While Trevor and cute baby Oliver are part of the story, this novella deals mostly with Brodie and Patience’s developing relationship. Truly little of Brodie’s family is involved but then the story is not long. It took only a couple of hours to read.
Romance story that is more sweet than steamy also has a danger element to it. I did find that not all of the danger is solved. It seemed that Trevor’s business dealings had some unusual things happening but that is not the main danger of the story, not is it solved. Still I found that I enjoyed this story quite a bit as Brodie and Patience began to get to know each other. I prefer this kind of tale where the characters take the time needed to build a real relationship.
4.5 Stars
An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Unintended Target is book two in Katie Reus’ new MacArthur Family series. They are both novellas but are standalone titles, so don’t let the fact that it’s the second in a series put you off. You can start with this book or only read this book and have no issues following the plot or the characters’ relationships.
Patience is a school teacher who used to be a nanny, so when a family friend desperately needs her help over the summer, she reluctantly agrees to step in until he can hire a full-time nanny for his baby nephew he’s now raising. Brodie is that family friend’s head of security and not happy that his boss has hired someone without giving him a chance to vet her. When he makes a grave strategic error, she doesn’t let him get away with it. Patience is no shrinking violet, but when a series of events lead to putting her life in danger, can Brodie find the culprit before it’s too late?
I liked the first book in this series, but I do believe that this one is my favorite of them now. The who and the why surrounding the villain in this book wasn’t as easy to figure out as in book one, and that is always something that will either make me love a romantic suspense book or just simply like it. I also liked how Patience didn’t let Brodie push her around and how she was able to put him in his place despite his reputation for being excellent at his job.
Katie Reus is on my automatic 1-click list and has been for years. Since I read and review most of her books, I always feel like I’m repeating myself. But she’s on that list for a reason. When I need good romantic suspense, she always delivers. Obviously, I’ve liked some of her books more than others, but there’s yet to be any book of hers that I’ve read that truly let me down. If you’re looking for a quick romantic suspense read that hits all of the genre’s elements along with strong characters and fast-paced action, grab this book (and book one if you have time!) today. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed, either.
I give Unintended Target by Katie Reus 4.5 out of 5 stars!
Unintended Target was a quick, fun read with a mystery & a touch of suspense. I enjoyed Patience and Brodie’s story, and I can’t wait to read Sienna’s story next!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from NetGalley.
3.75 stars–UNINTENDED TARGET is the second instalment in Katie Reus’ contemporary, adult MACARTHUR FAMILY romantic suspense novella series. This is security specialist Brodie MacArthur, and kindergarten teacher Patience Carras’ story line. UNINTENDED TARGET can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Patience and Brodie) UNINTENDED TARGET follows the quick building romance and relationship between security specialist Brodie MacArthur and kindergarten teacher Patience Carras. Patience Carras was looking forward to the summer off but a call from her mother found Patience working as a nanny for Trevor, a family friend whose previous five nannies had all quit unexpectedly. Meeting the on-site security specialist Brodie MacArthur stirred something deep within our story line heroine but Brodie crossed a line as it pertained to an event in our heroine’s past, an event that has left its’ mark on her heart and her soul. Security is tight around Patience’s new employer leaving our heroine the latest target. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Brodie and Patience, and the potential fall-out as the threats to Trevor have been transferred as threats to our story line heroine.
UNINTENDED TARGET is a fast paced and intriguing story line. The premise is edgy; the romance is captivating; the characters are animated and spirited. As per many novella length stories, the conflict resolution is quick-I was hoping for a little more build up of suspense and mystery.
This is a fairly quick read and the second book in this latest series by an authors whose work scans quite a few genres and draws me in every time.
Patience is a kindergarten teacher who is sweet and who it is oh so easy to connect with She decides to help a family friend Trevor Robinson by working as his nanny over the summer vacation he has recently become the guardian to his nephew Oliver after his brother and his wife where killed in an accident Trevor is a tech billionaire and Patience and his head of security Brodie MacArthur clash when they first meet Soon she grows to realise that Brodie will do whatever he needs to keep Oliver safe and when danger starts to threaten Patience he steps up for her as well. Is the danger threatening her from her new job or something else You will have to read to see
Patience is a kindergarten teacher. She loves her kids but is glad for her summer break. Now she can kick back and relax. Her plans are disrupted when her mother asks her to be a nanny for a family friend. Trevor is in a bind. He’s had several nannies quit with no notice. Why? The baby is so sweet. Unfortunately the head of security is another matter. Brodie accused her of lying on her resume. Patience won’t take his treatment and gives her notice. After he realizes his mistake, she agrees to stay and they act on their attraction. As their romance grows, so does the danger to Patience. Someone wants her gone and will go to any length to accomplish that goal. I wondered what their plan was. I was relieved that Brodie was there to protect her and the baby. I enjoyed this romantic suspense novella. Patience is a strong character. She has sass and spunk. Brodie is a powerful hero. He’s her protector. I enjoyed Unintended Target. It was action packed and had a satisfying romance. Katie Reus kept me entertained.
I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.
When school teacher Patience is asked to be a nanny for the summer for tech giant Trevor Robinson, she agrees as their families have been friends for years. Trevor’s brother and sister-in-law died in a tragic accident and now he has custody of his young nephew, Oliver. She loves baby Oliver, but is not too sure about the head of security, Brodie MacArthur. They start off on the wrong foot, but he soon convinces her that he is truly concerned for Trevor, his family and her. When several incidents happen to Patience, his protective feelings towards her become so much more. She also has feelings for Brodie, but has no idea why she has suddenly become a target. As danger mounts, she knows that she can trust Brodie to protect her. A beautiful romantic suspense story for Brodie and Patience. I look forward to the next book in this series and I do hope Trevor gets his own story. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
Having read a number of “nanny” romances, UNINTENDED TARGET gets high marks for its creative take on this type of romance. It’s not heavy on the single dad/baby relationship, but Katie Reus’ portrayal of Oliver made him adorable. I could really feel what a little charmer he was meant to be.
Brodie and Patience were a little too much alike. They gave off a serious, stable and predictable vibe. Their romance needed a little drama or angst to spice things up. Some of the descriptive language was really excellent but too often a big item or important detail was given one sentence. Also, too many interesting teasers never get resolved before the book ends.
Brodie is a great protector type and fortunately, Patience graciously lets him be that way without insisting she can take care of herself too much, It makes for a good story and I enjoyed the book.

Will they settle their different to give their attractant chance …
Wow, I devoured it in no time.
I loved Brodie and Patience. She is kind and caring yet takes no prisoner.
She faces challenges and bullies her head held high, and does not shy away of danger if she is confronted to it.
Brodie is by his job an alpha guy, hyper protective and domineering, yet he does not play game with women.
Their story is cute and sweet, they meet, then meet again but circumstances are different until they get close.
With a dash of danger, do not deny yourself a good read, it is fast paced with a bit of action, two charming heroes and some steam.
4.5 stars
onscreen detailed lovemaking scene.
I have been granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.

What a fun quick series Katie has given us about the MacArthur Family. This 2nd book is about Brodie, the middle son who is the Head of Security for rich Trevor Robinson who’s built a tech empire. Trevor has gone from being uncle to his nephew Oliver to his guardian when his brother & sister-in-law, Josh & Vanessa, die in a helicopter crash. Unfortunately for some reason the nannies have all quit suddenly and now has a family friend taking care of Oliver.
Patience Carras is a kindergarten teacher who has just started her summer vacation. Her mother calls asking a favor for her best friend Flora. Flora’s son Treavor is in desperate need of a nanny and Patience did that while going to college. Patience reluctantly agrees as Trevor is a family friend and meets with Trevor, 9 month old Oliver and staff. She’s worked with rich families before so she knows her way around. Brodie is out of town when she starts. She & Brodie met the night before she started work but they didn’t trade names that night but there was instant chemistry. Unfortunately they get off on the wrong foot at Trevor’s when he approaches her about a bad reference from a husband of a former family she worked with. She tells him her side, as the husband tried to rape her and storms off. He checks it out, realizes his mistake and when he goes to apologize he finds her sick. Somehow with food poisoning. Later other things happen and Brodie tries to protect her as it looks like her life is in danger. It doesn’t take long to discover why the nannies have been quitting.

Unintended Target by Katie Reus
2nd of 3 novellas from the MacArthur Family series. Romance with a touch of suspense. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Patience agrees to be a nanny for the summer during her teaching break. Brodie takes his job as head of security seriously but blunders with a background check on Patience. As the attraction between the two grows, so does the mystery of why so many nannies prior to Patience left without notice.
Fast moving novella with quick attraction and lite suspense. Easy to read and lovely romance. Brodie is a protective male while Patience knows how best to protect herself and the child. Enjoyable with a gratifying epilogue the really cinches the whole story.
I’m looking forward to reading the third sibling in this trilogy.
I received a copy of this from NetGalley. As a favorite author, I’ve also purchased a copy to share.
This story was too stinking cute. Patience, bless her heart, is so sweet and kind she cannot say no to anyone and Brodie is not quite the brooding hero. He is just all business. Their slow burn romance is so lovely. Not much more to say. If you want a nice, sweet, fun read for an afternoon or evening, try this series.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley
Good grief. Patience lives up to her name. She gets “volunteered” to help out a family friend when he inexplicably can’t keep a nanny in service. He’s not an ogre or a leech and the baby is cute as a button. So just what is going on? Her summer break from being a kindergarten teacher has gone up in smoke!
She has a bit of a meet-cute with a sexy guy at a Taco stand. Little does she know that he is actually the head of security for her new employer. A more naturally suspicious person you’ll never meet. He takes his duties seriously, his employer is also his friend. So when the tempting new nanny wanders into his workplace, his trouble radar goes on high alert.
Brodie is oh so much brooding hotness. Grumpy with a sweet core, just what I love! He really does take his job seriously but I loved that little Patience totally doesn’t kowtow to him. She is a feisty little teacher!
Shorter in length but oh so well filled. A well-crafted story, great characters and I’m loving all these very intense siblings!
This was one of those reads that you get to just sit back and chill with. Nothing too incredibly heavy or dramatic, light on the angst, but perfect on the romance.
Patience was a heroine I liked immediately. As this is written primarily from her point of view, it was easy to connect with her. When Brodie confronts her at one point, she didn’t hesitate to let him have it, and I love that she was confident enough to do so in the face of a man many would find intimidating.
While we didn’t get a lot of Brodie, there was enough there to understand that he liked what he saw in Patience. He’s definitely got that protective alpha hero vibe going which is always a win in my opinion. Watching him pay the price after making a colossal mistake was pretty fun.
Although this was not heavy in drama, it still had plenty of mystery and suspense driving the story forward. The chemistry between Patience and Brodie was clearly evident, but their relationship really didn’t have enough time or opportunity to take off until the end. This is a fast, short read perfect for a quick break or something between longer reads.
