A widowed clan-chief, a knife-wielding nun, and a once in a lifetime love. A sweeping, epic tale of second chances and forbidden love in Medieval Scotland—from the author of the Amazon best-selling Brides of Skye series.
Gavin MacNichol once broke Annella Fraser’s heart.
After he ended their affair to wed her elder sister, Ella fled her home and took the veil. Eighteen years later, she’s … home and took the veil. Eighteen years later, she’s shocked to find herself face-to-face with the man she’s never forgotten, or forgiven.
Recently widowed, Gavin has lived with regret all these years. He wed for duty, not for love. But when he escorts Sister Ella of Kilbride home to visit her ailing mother, he realizes that the passion he once felt for Ella still burns—hotter than ever.
Yet Ella is forbidden. She’s sworn her life to the Cluniac order, and is determined to resist the emotional response Gavin’s nearness provokes in her.
It’s only when Ella falls foul of the tyrant who controls the fate of her beloved abbey that Gavin and Ella’s lives become entwined once more.
But, this time, their fate is one that neither can run from.

Every once in a while there comes a book that touches your heart like no other. This is one of them! After finishing reading the story, I stared at the title and thought….”It’s the perfect title in every way, for this story”. “Unforgotten” is Gavin and Ella’s story and while they get a second chance, it’s not until 18 years has passed since they’d seen each other.
They had been in love but Gavin, soon to be the Laird, had given his father his word that he would do his duty and marry the woman chosen for him….Ella’s sister. With a broken heart, Ella runs away, straight to the Abbey to become a nun. Now 18 years has passed and suddenly Gavin is in her life again. My heart absolutely ached for them and I’m not too proud to say that I cried for them.
Amidst tensions between the clans and the threat to the Abbey, decisions have to be made and Ella is forced to choose between her faith and Gavin….a man that has always been “unforgotten”!!
This was so well written and so full of emotions. If this is how book 1 makes me feel, I can’t even imagine what the rest of the series will be like:) I, for one, am very much looking forward to it!!

Young lovers are torn apart by the death of the Clan-Chief of MacNichol. Gavin MacNichol must take his place as Laird and fulfill the contract of his betrothed to the sister of his lover, Ella. Heartbroken Ella flees to Kilbride Abbey and quietly lives her life as a nun, until Gavin, now widowed, shows up eighteen years later to escort her to see her dying mother. When Ella’s life is in danger, there is only one solution, a second chance. A lot of angst and dangerous situations set a fast pace for the book. The story continues in the next book.
That was a book i really enjoyed. Annela and Mcnicol s story was interesting and well developed. I liked it mostly becauce it was about a woman in her late tweenties, heart broken, who had experience loss and pain trying to find peace. The hero too was a man of honor who had been manipulated in a loveless marriage for his clan. They struggle and they finaly find theirhappily ever after. A different story standing apart from other books. I will recommend .
Two people tried to do the right thing for their families & come to realize they need to live their own lives. H takes h to see her dying mother & then multiple events come about preventing them from returning to their prior lives. Again they fall in love & are trying to escape life threatening events from multiple tyrants. Lots of action & history presented. Nuns have been taught by the abbess to defend themselves with multiple weapons.
This is a action-packed book with twist and turns in the story line.
I loved the story
I thought this story was very original. Although I hated the ending I felt like you needed to go a further. I think there was more to the story. than that but other than that it was very good book.
The concept was interesting, just a lot of the same stuff one finds in Historical romances.
Good story but yukky sex!
Loved that it started a series of 3 books…very easy reading. No great plot twist, but moves along at a good pace.
Enjoyed it very much! Read it in two nights. I wanted
Them to come together again and be be happy. Would
Like to read the rest of them.
I loved the story but it left too many things hanging. It ended too soon.
What a lovely, engaging second chance at love story – highly recommend!
An Absolute Must Read!!
Take a journey with Gavin and Ella from young love love to see where their story goes. I could not put this book down! It is a fast-paced, action-packed Historical Romance that is full-bodied with steamy passion!
The wonderful characters come alive on each page! Well done indeed!!

This book was just average. I’m partial to her Pict series, though. In my opinion, they are better, but I could be just tired of being inundated with Scottish settings.

The author delivers great characters that are well developed and engaging with plenty of chemistry that draw us from the start. The even flow of the storyline kept me entertained.

I am always so excited to see a new book by this fabulous author, Jayne Castel. I know it will capture me quickly and be everything I anticipated and she never lets me down!!
Love broken apart due to duty…a marriage contract signed when he was thirteen to wed Innis Fraser of Talasgair. Gavin had prayed he could talk his parents out of it, but there was no hope. He loved Ella, not her sister but it was his father’s last wish as he lay dying.
Ella joined kilbride Abbey and became a nun. But eighteen years later, fate was to temp her and bring her back to her family. Fate in the form of Gavin MacNichol, now a clan chief, came to the abbey and requested she go back with him to her home, due to her mother dying and wanting to see her only living daughter. Her sister Innis had passed away and now Gavin was a widow.
As much as she did not want to go, it seemed she had no choice, but she is determined to not respond to Gavin or get emotionally involved with him again.
Well, how to resist a handsome man you once loved with your whole being? Take this wonderful journey as these two are thrown together and see what happens!! Fantastic!
Jayne Castel Unforgotten (Book #1: The Sisters of Kilbride) by Jayne Castel. 5 STARS! This is the kind of historical romance I can’t get enough of! Every element in perfect measure is included in this fast paced historical right up to the very end without slowing down. Plots seamlessly steer the storyline from the usual cliché path into surprising twist and turns of events.
The story’s creative plots and themes range from; second chances, forbidden love, to “I have the most beastly mother-in-law!”
This is one of the best books I’ve read this year!
The story is beautifully written with a host of character’s masterfully developed and blended throughout the storyline creating a rollercoaster of emotions (tissues) and engaging suspense that I didn’t want to end.
I greatly admire and respect Gavin and Ella in the way that they survived having their love torn apart from each other and forge on though never forgetting. They grieved, showed vulnerability, and strength all with unbelievable class that made it even more emotional for their plight. I recommend this read to everyone.
Happy Reading
