Another one of Anna’s books. Another one that I read an ARC for, and can recommend the whole series.
The Thrills continue in Hackett’s third book of the Treasure Hunter Security series! This adventure takes us to the mysterious cloud forests of the Andes. After her father’s passing, Sydney becomes the new CEO of Granger Industries, instead of her brother, who has run off to research a pre-Incan culture. Suddenly she receives a terrifying call that her brother has been kidnapped, and his life is in danger if she doesn’t come imediately and pay the ransom. Sydney hires Logan from Treasure Hunter Security to help her rescue her brother. Former Navy SEAL Logan O’Connor is rugged and wild and he makes it clear he is not interested in the buttoned up executive. He has been betrayed before and he isn’t interested in risking his heart again. But Sydney has secrets that surprise Logan and he has definitely met his match with this strong, intelligent, and sexy woman. But danger lurks all around them and as one clue leads to another, it is a race against time to rescue her brother before the lethal kidnapers catch up to them, or the mysterious Warriors of the Clouds kills them all.
Stella Bloom continues to narrate this fun, adventurous, heartpounding, and sizzling story. She delivers all the excitement, emotion, wit, and steam, bringing these characters and story to life, beautifully. This is a quick listen but packs so much fun and adventure! I can’t wait to listen to the next books in Teasure Hunter Security series!
Original review: https://myshelfbooks.wordpress.com/2020/01/12/review-unexplored-by-anna-hackett/
2020 is going to be the year of this reader finishing all those series I have started and then forgotten about them. Yes, I know I said the same thing last year; but this one I have a good feeling about it. The amount of them is so big, that I know I won’t be able to fulfill this New Year Resolution; but I will do my best. Some of them are not going to be so hard, due to the length of their stories. One example is Treasure Hunter Security: short, to the point and very fast paced. Let’s see to what remote place we travel this time!
The heroine of this story is called Sydney, the new CEO of Granger Industries who is still learning the ropes of that job. Her life gets a bit more exciting when she receives a call from Silk Road telling her that they have kidnapped her brother and demand a lot of money in exchange for his release. A quick Google search shows Sydney that the natural enemy of the kidnappers is the company called Treasure Hunter Security. She doesn’t give the idea a second thought and runs to hire their help. There she meets Logan, an ex-SEAL and one of the most vaulable members of the security company. The soldier is grumpy and has trusting issues and zero problems to express them clearly. Will the adventures looking for the lost brother polish their differences or ruin the mission in the attempt? The answer is in Peru…
Before picking a book, you need to set your expectations for it at the right level. The books of the Treasure Hunter Security are not great books that you will remember your whole life, but they are awesome books to keep you fully entertain during the time it takes reading them. And that is a huge achievement. This third book is no exception. It’s action packed to its fullest, from one ruin to the next. From a shooting in a hotel, to a car chase to dangerous hikes and much, much more. I think the author calls it “action romance” and I couldn’t agree more. Yes, I know the story has its shortcomings and random small plot wholes now and them; but it is so easy-to-read and entertaining that dismissing them feels natural. Perfect book to read with a bowl of popcorns between your legs (unless you live with a hunk. In that case use him instead).
If there is something I LOVE about this saga are those cultural snippets the author gifts us in every story. It is not a Wikipedia article, though. The story is not drown with a sea of data to look smart. Just a few fragments to put the reader in situation and to pike their interest. This time we are presented with several details about the Chachapoyas, also known as the Cloud Warriors. I had never heard of them, but thanks to this book now I have several details to look cool among friends in a conversation about ancient ruins in Peru. I just have to drop the more outworldly details used in the story, or instead of cool I would look like a crazy person. All jokes aside, the fact that such a quick reading has still time to teach you something is remarkable and worthy of a warm applause.
Maybe, the weakest link of the story are its characters. They are not bad, but you could say they are “mass manufactured” ones. Nothing new in the genre. Just the proper traits to make them work in the setting chosen for the book. I must admit that Sydney has been the most enjoyable female counterpart from all the three I have read so far. She is not a damsel in distress like the ones we have in the previous books. She is quite capable of defending herself. As a result, we have been regaled with several unexpected and noteworthy action scenes. I was a lot more hesitant about Logan in the beginning. It even bothered me his grumpiness about Sydney not telling him everything. Are you serious, you big oaf? Are you trying to tell me that in order to trust a person you have just met that person has to spill all their secrets in front of you? That is a bit unnerving and idiotic. Thankfully, that stone heart of his softens rather quickly and he grows on me. The romance between those two characters is nothing for the history books, but it didn’t give me a headache trying to make sense of it.
Always a joy to read this kind of books. Anna Hackett’s style is just what the Doctor prescribed against boredom, so I will need to check more of her work. I’m not starting another saga by this author until I finish this one, though. Please, send me all the strength of will you can spare, because mine is easily distracted by hot covers.
I love this series, there is a tremendous amount of research that Anna Hackett puts into each book and its quite relevant with what’s being talked about in the world right now, this is a fun romantic series with plenty of steam and interesting places to go while enjoying a good book.
It was the classic Mrs Anna Hackett’s story with like every time a little twist to add suspens and mystery to the story.
Logan is the brooding sort alpha hero, he was used and betrayed by a woman, since he can’t find in him to trust one again.
Sydney has learned to put a mask on her face, hiding her feeling and who she really is from her family and all those around her, so much it has become a second nature for her and she appears as an ice queen.
The plot brings them together in what should be an out of her usual path road for Sydney but she keeps up and it intrigues Logan, he soo realizes she is not what she seems to be.
This story is their journey to trust another as they have secrets and wounds.
Sydney Granger is now CEO of Granger Industries, while her brother is off searching for a pre-Incan culture. After receiving a ransom call from Silk Road she reaches out to Treasure Hunter Security in the hopes they can help. Logan instantly thinks this Ice princess CEO can’t be trusted but as time goes on he realizes there is more to her than what she projects to the world. A trip to Peru leads to a whirlwind of adventure and discoveries, both historical and emotional.
This was a nonstop action adventure and I enjoyed it. This book focuses on finding Sydney’s brother not on protecting an archaeological dig, which was a nice change of pace for the series. Sydney is a very controlled and doesn’t open up easily, which given her past employment it makes since. Logan is the big, tough, wild man who doesn’t let himself trust women. These two had a lot of trust issues but it worked between them. I do wish their change in feelings of hate to attraction had not been so abrupt.
I wish this book had been longer but I still really enjoyed it. I can’t wait to see Morgan fall in love and find happiness.
OMG McGrumpypants falls in love!! I love this new series and seeing these rough and ready men and women fall in love. Think Indiana Jones meets Romancing the stone – action/adventure with a slice of hot romance and snarky humour. The camaraderie between the team is very believable and I love the fast pace. Logan is alpha male to the core but hides a soft(ish) centre (well hidden by all that grump!!! Sydney has aced the whole icy CEO persona to cover the fact that she doesn’t even want the job but feels obligated to carry on the family business.
Sid’s brother really turns a corner from the perceived naive, nerdy history buff to grapple with the Silk Road in his own nerdy way. A great way to learn some history whilst you float along in the adventure thrills and spills. These books just get better and better!
I enjoy this author’s work. Her women are intelligent and independent and the alpha males that fall for them accept them for who they are without trying to change them.
