Paradise, love, power…and a prophecy with a price. Most people believe Eden no longer exists. Lexi Merrill’s about to learn they’re wrong. A hard-working bartender with a self-sufficient backbone and a wary nature, she knows pickup lines like a second language. So, when Eryx Shantos barges into her world with too-smooth words and a body to back it up, she locks up her libido and vows to keep her … libido and vows to keep her distance.
Eryx has other ideas. As king of the Myren race, Eryx is duty-bound to enforce the laws preventing exposure of their existence to humans. Yet The Fates have led him through his dreams to Lexi, a temptation he doesn’t want to resist. The question—is she Myren, or human, which makes her forbidden fruit?
When Eryx’s nemesis tags Lexi as his next target, Eryx insists on taking her home where he can keep her safe. Lexi had no idea “home” would mean the one-and-only land of creation…or that she’d trigger a prophecy that could doom her newfound race.

This book was recommended to me by a friend, and I’m usually very picky with who I pick up for PNR authors, unless I’ve read them before because I write in the genre… well, color me ecstatic when I read the first page of Unexpected Eden because before I knew it, I was on chapter three and messaging my friend and yelling at her as I knew I’d be up all night reading. I’m on book three now, and I can’t seem to put these bad boys down. Rhenna Morgan created a world that is both realistic and rich in mythology that I don’t want to ever leave. If I could give it twenty stars on here I would. I HIGHLY recommend this series.
I highly recommend this really great fantasy/romance type story that is well written with great characters!!!
There was a moment of hesitation, and a little concern, when I started this book that I’d be overwhelmed with trying to navigate my way through the world that is Eden, but that wasn’t the case. Once we get to Eden we are immersed in everything that is Myren and while some aspects are told to us, the majority is shown through the various characters and that was a huge help in making the world believable. And the explanation of the differences between humans and Myran was done in a simple clear cut manner that made sense as to why humans would leave a place like Eden.
Lexi and Eryx’s relationship moved very quickly, but in the context as to why it made sense and I actually liked that it did. There wasn’t a lot of hemming and hawing over should I or shouldn’t I do this nor was there an overabundance of angst from either character, which for me was a huge bonus as well as the fact that the characters actually communicated with each other, even to where they admitted they did have things they weren’t telling each other, but allowing those secrets to stand until the other was ready to divulge them. Also I thoroughly enjoyed that it was Lexi who got to decide if things were a go or not. Eryx did the alpha male thing and nudged, pushed, seduced her in one direction but he always asked her what she wanted and made sure she knew that she held as much power in their budding relationship as he did.
As for the rest of the cast of characters, they were all well written from the villain Maxis down to Phybe who has a small role in the story. I loved the interactions between Eyrx, Lexi, Ramsay, Ludan, Galena, Graylin and Orla and find that Ludan and Galena are my favorites so I can’t wait to see what is in store for them.
Overall this is a no muss no fuss, strong debut by a new author that has created a believable world, interesting characters that I actually want to get to know better and a series story arc that I am fully invested in seeing through to it’s conclusion.
3.5 stars
Eryx was full of charm, wit, and had one bossy attitude. Lexi was feisty and mostly level-headed..then she went to Eden…
Thrust into an alternate world, Lexi had to make decisions quickly and not necessarily well-informed. Even though he meant well Eryx kept her in the dark too long for my liking regarding her position and her destiny. His insistence she trust him, without giving her the necessary info for a sound decision, made me want to yell at him to offer Lexi the same courtesy-oy, even fictional men can be hard headed and dense! I thought it a shame Lexi didn’t make him suffer longer, he deserved it.
The world building was intriguing with the descriptions and terminology; thankfully there’s a handy glossary attached for references, lol!
And the secondary characters! They were one big extended, mischievous, and nosy family! Out of all of them, however, Ludan was too irresistible with his sarcastic wit and sly humor-I hope he at least gets a novella!
The story was an engrossing read, but the pacing could use a some work. Everything happened at such a rapid pace I felt like I had whip lash trying to keep up! Aside from that, I loved the premise of Eden, the prophecy of mates, and the fight of good guys versus baddies was intriguing enough to look forward to the next book!
I look forward to reading the next book
A bit boring.
I am not a reader of sci-fi, however, love anything with an element of romance. This book was one of my first into this genre and I was hooked! Steamy, adventure, conflict and love all rolled into one. Highly recommend and will be reading more!
this book had some surprises very interesting read.
I think this author is going somewhere…she’s just not too comfortable with her characters…the concepts are good but it seems like both story and characters are a little forced, she’s telling the characters what to do instead of them telling the author what they need to do. Seasoning is all the author needs, I’ve followed others who’s 1st couple of books were like this…they grew into great writers & now I can’t wait for their new books!
Main character was totally clueless and selfish.
Kept me up too late reading!!
It’s certainly an original premise, but it moves too quickly. From strangers to wild sex. The pacing was wrong, needs work – seems to have been written to a deadline.
This book was a little disappointing because, although it was billed as fantasy, it was to unrealistic….in the relationships, (they happened too quickly and not very realistically), in the action sequences, (they were poorly imagined), and in the dastardly villan (nothing unexpected there) and of course, it is a series, so it was left wide open.
Really great characters. Interesting set-up of Eden and the magical powers. Enjoyed the whole series. Not completely wild about the ending.
This is one saucy read!
The plot was quite original. The world was detailed and imaginative. The 5 main characters were good. The other characters I had trouble remembering due to lack of character building. Nicknames and full names were used interchangeably and made it hard to follow. The chapters detailing the ‘villain’ did not hold my interest as it was clear from the 3rd chapter that all of his plotting was moot.
Entertaining and easy to read.
Really original story. I enjoyed the land Morgan created and the romance was super sweet to read.
Expected it to be a lot more interesting but I’ve read worse.
The character building was done well however I just couldn’t get into the story. I didn’t get very far.
