This was a light and fun read that was also a really refreshing spin on the genre – not just the working parent/nanny genre, but the older/more successful character too. I loved that, seriously. It also had some pretty hot and steamy scenes, an adorable little six year old and enough drama to keep me flipping the pages to see how they would work it all out.

Unexpected by Jenna Hartley is an age-gap, single parent/nanny, contemporary romance novel that I devoured in less than two days. I was instantly intrigued from the, since its a fresh twist on the single parent/nanny trope.
The characters in the book were very well developed. I felt like I could relate to most of them on some level. Alexis, the heroine is a strong AF single mom. She’s successful in her career, and incredibly confident on the outside. However, she struggles with a lot of the same insecurities that most women/mothers deal with on a daily basis. Preston, the hero, is super swoony. Currently in college to finally finish his degree, he nanny’s part-time to earn money for tuition and bills. He’s experienced a lot more life than most adults in their twenties have had to. Of course, there is adorable Sophia, Alexis’s daughter, who almost steals the show. You can’t help but fall in love with her too.
I definitely recommend getting Unexpected when it comes out. It’s full of everything – heart, steam, great secondary characters and some laughs!

Jenna Hartley is a new author for me, and let me tell you, she writes beautifully. This was such an incredible story. The characters are remarkable. Their chemistry is amazing. The storyline is intriguing and will keep you turning the pages. I can’t wait to read more of Ms. Hartley’s work.
What a heart warming and awesome story!! Older woman, younger man, a daughter and an unexpected pregnancy, made for a very entertaining and heart melting book!!
