When asked what he does for a living . . .Commander Mark Bishop is deliberately low-key: “I’m in the Navy.” But commanding the ballistic missile submarine USS Nevada, keeping her crew trained and alert during ninety-day submerged patrols, and being prepared to launch weapons on valid presidential orders, carries a burden of command like few other jobs in the military. Mark Bishop is a man who … military. Mark Bishop is a man who accepts that responsibility, and handles it well. And at a time when tensions are escalating around the Pacific Rim, the Navy is glad to have him.
Mark wants someone to come home to after sea patrols. The woman he has in mind is young, with a lovely smile, and very smart. She’s a civilian, yet she understands the U.S. Navy culture. And he has a strong sense that life with her would never be boring. But she may be too deep in her work to see the potential in a relationship with him.
Gina Gray would love to be married. She has always envisioned her life that way. A breakup she didn’t see coming, though, has her focusing all her attention on what she does best–ocean science research. She’s on the cusp of a major breakthrough, and she needs Mark Bishop’s perspective and help. Because what she told the Navy she’s figured out is only the beginning. If she’s right, submarine warfare is about to enter a new and dangerous chapter.

I’ve enjoyed everything by Dee Henderson‼
Nice, clean reading.
Well written story
I felt it was slow moving, kept waiting for big moments and nothing ever happened
Interesting
One of the few books I’ve read twice. Excellent writing, deep characters and intriguing plot.
Detailed operations of submarine warfare and the personal feelings of submarine personal, homeland security forces and the dangers and feelings they face, as well as their families back home. Edge of your sweet drama. I stayed up all night to read it through as fast as I could, then spent the next two days reading it slower so I could follow all the intricate details.
I enjoy Dee Henderson’s books. A good mix of romance and drama, plus I always learn a little something – this time about nuclear subs.
Normally enjoy Dee Henderson and this one did not disappoint.
I enjoy Dee Henderson’s writings.
Interesting look into the lives of submarines crews.
I won’t comment on how accurate some of the scenes were, but the reader never feels like it’s off because of the excellent writing and story line. I’ve just enough military background to find it captivating.
This is a wonderful book with wonderful characters.
It was very informative and well presented. I enjoyed the way the inside workings of a nuclear fleet was presented although at times a little technical
Just a good read for a rainy afternoon!
Great story!!
I really enjoyed this book which I really did not expect as it is not typically one I would choose. I liked the characters and plot twists. A very riveting read.
very hard to get into so I didn’t finish
3rd reading
A submarine instruction manual. Far below her usual work.
