I LOVED IT!!! Anna blew my mind with the world she created! I loved this modern day, fantastic telling of a fairtytale! There was enough angst/concern to keep the story moving, but it wasn’t so heavy that it bogged down the story. I seriously loved watching Marissa figure out how to solve her problem! It was just a wonderful book!
This was a beautifully written modern twist to the Little Mermaid.
What would you do to save the love of your life?
Marissa makes a deal with a nymph, in order to save Ty’s life.
The only way to break this curse is to have the boy who owns her heart confess his love to her before the 3 rotations of the moon are completed.
If not, Marissa turns into a mermaid forever.
Ty’s best friend Caleb, pretends to be Marissa’s boyfriend to make Ty jealous.
But Caleb has hidden feelings for her.
Who will she choose.
This is something a little different from this author. I love when authors put their own spin on a fairytale. A fun easy to read story perfect for a beach read. The writing flowed and the story sucked me in. I had to know what was going to happen to Marissa and Ty.

Underwater é uma fantasia jovem adulto doce e pura. Eu assistia H₂O Just Add Water sempre que passava e eu <3.
Boa leitura.

Underwater is a sweet and clean YA fantasy. I used to watch H₂O Just Add Water all the time it was on and I <3. Underwater reminded me a bit of H₂O JAW.
Anna B. Doe created a vivid world. I never went to Hawaii nor do I associate characters and places to real people and real places, it is always figments of my imagination and kind of abstract. But the author made me see a clear image. It was interesting and helped me immerse in the story.
Underwater flowed and caught my attention. The characters are amazing, but I can't say much or I will give spoilers. Underwater is unique and charmed.
If you are a mermaid lover, YA lover or fantasy lover, this book is for you. I hope you adore it as much as I did. Good reading.

Underwater by Anna B. Doe is a fun, modern spin on The Little Mermaid and I believe a first for me to read about. I already loved her writing from having read the Greyford High series so of course I jumped at the chance to read this one as well. Although a lot cleaner than that series and also from what I’m used to being drawn to, I very much enjoyed this story and what Anna B. Doe brought to this classic tale.
For the most part Underwater is told by the main character, Marissa, who has had an unrequited crush on her friend, Taylor, for years. Feelings so strong that when the time came, she chose to save him from a terrible storm without any thought to what the consequences to her actions might be. Which turned out to be something major and came with an expiration date and only one way to stop it. This is where I started having issues with Marissa and just wanted to shake her for her tunnel vision instead of opening up to new possibilities. In the end everything did come together nicely and I really liked that the storyline went in the direction I was hoping for. Overall I found Underwater to be a very cute read and another Anna B. Doe hit.
Underwater was a thoroughly enjoyable combination of YA romance and fairytale retelling. It was well written and kept me engaged, although I found I a little predictive. That being said, the storyline was great, the characters believable, if you can believe a teenage girl becomes a mermaid, and it was a fun read.
This is my first time reading Anna B Doe, and I am hooked now!
Underwater was such a sweet tale! (Tail/tale. See what I did there lol) I absolutely loved the chemistry between her and Caleb and at times wanted to smack Ty right upside his head. This is a magical story.
I Really enjoyed this story and Absolutely recommend it!
This new spin on “The Little Mermaid” was so good. Sweet, with an amazing Hero and a wonderful Heroine and most importantly, a timeless and incredible love story.
I will warn people who don’t like love triangles that one does exist here, so proceed with caution if those aren’t for you. It’s well worth it for me (I’m also not a love triangle fan) because I was pretty certain I knew where this whole thing was going from the beginning.
Marissa has crushed on Ty (Taylor) forever. He has her seated solidly in the friend-zone. One terrible wave later, she’s made a deal to save his life. Caleb is Ty’s friend; the brooding dark one with a lip piercing. Marissa’s feelings start to get conflicted and things get complicated with her new… situation.
This is a fast-reading summer romance you don’t want to miss. This is a YA/NA so be aware that the love scenes will adhere to that age group.
Recommend, all day long!
A wonderful twist on a fairy tale, it kept my attention from the beginning. It had all the feels, the angst and the heart break. This author who I’ve not read before is very visual, I could picture the events happening. Great story for young and old, I highly recommend it.
Underwater is a sweet YA read. I started reading some of it on Wattpad but ever got around to finishing it so I was super excited to see it in ebook form. It’s the prefect summer time read. Marissa lives in a small town on the island of Hawaii. She’s grown up hearing stories of mermaids but in the stories she hears mermaids are not kind helping creatures, they are predators and bargain instead of help. One day while at the beach Marissa sees her crush go underwater in the storm wave. She doesn’t think twice about going in after him. To save him and her see makes a bargain and she has three months to uphold her end. Marissa is a little naive and jumps head first into things. TY was clueless is how much Marissa liked him. Caleb was fun a character. This one definitely has a good story line and you should check it out.
A modern day fairytale at its finest! Underwater is as turbulent as the ocean and as beautiful as the creatures in it. Read the story of Marissa to find out that not all fairytales are what they seem and true love does prevail!
A truly enchanting and captivating story that i enjoyed every second of.A Modern day Little Mermaid with a twist!Right when you think “Oh!I know whats gna happen!”you get hit with a twist!I truly loved this!As someone who’s favorite movie was The Little Mermaid I’ve read and seen many different versions of the story. This is by far my favorite one.Marissa is just a girl with an intense love for the ocean but as fate would have it the ocean would be her downfall. One fateful day the ocean takes something she loves and she must make a deal to get it back then the race for time really begins. Can she get her true love to love her back?Or will she become a part of the ocean..forever.A beautifully written fairytale that with leave you breathless..I cried more than once..So much emotion…
Underwater sucked me right in and I was so curious to see where it would go. Marissa is trying her hardest to save the love of her life from drowning and to do so, she makes a deal with an ocean nymph. She has three full moons and if the boy who has her heart doesn’t confess his love, Marissa will take the ocean nymph’s place in the ocean. The ocean nymph will get Marissa’s legs and place on land.
This story started off really strong for me. I loved that Marissa was curious about the curse and even asked her grandfather about mermaids. Then it fell kind of flat. It was odd that someone who is facing a curse like this doesn’t research it more. I mean, of course she’ll go after the guy she’s been in love with, but that is where it kind of ended. Accepting something so easily felt odd, because it was clear she was fighting to break this curse.
Marissa has been in love with Ty all her life and he’s clearly clueless. So to get him to finally see her will be quite the task. Enter Caleb, someone Marissa knows and feels some sort of attraction to. What’s a better way to get Ty’s attention than to make him jealous by dating someone else. This did have some fun moments, because it’s clear there is a connection.
This love triangle made it hard for me though, because at a certain point I felt like the book was only focusing on the romance. Marissa was going back and forth between her feelings even though it was obvious to everyone she was in love with Caleb. I mean the romance will be a big part of the book, because of the curse, but it just felt like too much. And I am a fan of romance.
Underwater is told from both Marissa and Caleb’s POV (even though I would’ve liked more of his from time to time). It does give us a bit of more of the story and I loved Caleb, but I missed some more about him. It’s like the character development stayed on the surface. I just needed a bit more.
All in all, it was a fun summer read. Marissa’s best friend was hilarious and I loved her trying to help Marissa solve her boy problems. I also loved the little references to Marvel and stuff like that. Authors adding some of my favorite fandoms is always a plus. If you’re a big fan of love triangles, this book is definitely for you.
4 Love & Ocean Stars!
Having read Ms.Doe’s work before I couldn’t wait to pick this book up! I enjoyed this story so much and finished it in one sitting. Underwater absolutely touched my heart! Just like the ocean waves it was all kinds of unique and dazzling!
Marissa’s story pulled me in from the start! I connected with her throughout her journey. I felt so much with these characters and I loved what they brought to the story as well.
Ms.Doe created a fantastic read!
*I volunteered to read and review a Copy of this book from the author*
Risa has loved Tyler for as long as she can remember but he has never seen her as more than a friend. When he is about to become the next victim of the water Marissa saves him by making a deal where she has three months to make him fall in love with her or she will become a mermaid permanently. Along the way she recruits Caleb to assist but he has an agenda that could change everything.
Who doesn’t love a fairy tale and this updated version of the Little Mermaid doesn’t disappoint. Great characters, a few twists and all the feels.
Ok let me say that if you are a YA lover than Underwater is a book that you must read!! This author was able to create a world like nothing else. The way everything was described had me sucked in and I didn’t want to let go.
The storyline was unique and the characters were really interesting. There were a lot of emotions throughout including angst, longing, Hope, and finally love.
There is nothing better than a modern day fairytale to get lost in and this book is exactly that. I highly recommend that you check it out, you will not be disappointed!!
I loved this story. It was light hearted, but also emotional at times. A story about a girl learning about herself, and what she really wants. I am also absolutely in love with this author, and the way she strings together words, that takes you away to another world. It captures your mind, and sucks you in. You’re hooked from page one.
The story of Marissa and the boy she loves, but almost loses to the sea, is so captivating that you can’t stop once you start. This is a Y/A book that’s safer for your kids to read. It has language in it, but we hear that every day now.
Marissa makes a deal with a water nymph when an accident happens, and she loses Ty, and must uphold it, or everything in her life will change. And not for the better. With only a limited time to complete her tasks, she tries everything she can think of to accomplish what has to be done.
This is like a modern day little mermaid story. It has its own twist on things. Almost the same, but totally different. All she wanted to do was help the boy she’s been in love with all her life, but be careful making deals with a sea creature. They all seek to deceive. They have their own agenda.
I absolutely adored this story, and the characters in it. I read this book in a matter of hours, it was so good. I couldn’t stop one I started. I absolutely recommend this one.
I absolutely fell in love with this book. Once I started it I didn’t want it to end. It’s a very cute and interesting young adult story about mermaids, love, friendship, and life. Marissa becomes a victim of ocean nymph trickery and is faced with a curse that she has to break. I don’t want to give too much away but the book was so amazing it had love, angst, intriguing fairytale story, and great characters.
A retelling of a classic is my favorite, and the Little Mermaid inspired? Yes please!! When I was given the opportunity to read an early copy of this story I could not sign up fast enough. Ms. Doe really put her own twist on this classic that everyone loves. I was so curious from the beginning and could not put it down. This was a cute story and a great twist on a beloved classic. A must read!!
Let me just comment on the playlist for this book first… It’s freaking perfect for this book and I’m currently listening to while I’m writing this review.
Okay, now about this book… Underwater was exactly what I wanted. Exactly what I needed. It was perfect and made me heart swoon. I felt like I was missing something these past few days but after reading this, everything just clicked in place. I needed a heart warming book that would make me feel light, warm and fuzzy. I was not expecting this book!
Marissa Davenport has been crushing on one of her friends for years but he has no clue. He only views her as a friend but that doesn’t stop her from saving his life after nearly drowning. That heroic attempt set a curse in motion. Marissa is now a mermaid (something she didn’t know existed) and if she doesn’t accomplish her task in the required time, she will forever be stuck as a mermaid. She gets help from an unexpected source and that changes everything. Her time is running out and she is more conflicted than ever.
One of my favorite tropes is fake relationship and the fact that this book had it made me love it all the more. I found Marissa really relatable and my heart broke at how much effort she put in trying to make the boy notice her. The only problem I had with this book was that I wanted a bit more clarity on our hero and if anything happened between him and the girls he was with. That didn’t change how much I loved him though. He was incredibly sweet and endearing. I was rooting for him from the start. I will definitely be re-reading this book. It gave me Aquamarine and To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before vibes.
