The characters and plot lines were well developed. I found the characters to be interesting.
Araya has been set up to wed Duke Wendel, by her father. The Duke is a horrible man, so she flees her kingdom of Rowlst, to another Kingdom called Braythel , ruled by Prince Thor. He lets her pass onto his lands, and protects her from the ones who are following her. Of course, They fall in love.
This book is told in alternating perspectives from both Araya and Thor which really kept things interesting and gives the reader more insight into the thoughts and emotions of both characters. I really enjoyed the way the love bloomed between Araya and Thor.
I really don’t read historical romance, But I loved this one. This was a great book, I would highly suggest this book to anyone who likes a happy ending to a love story. I am very excited to read more from this author
As a friend of the author, a person who read this in its original draft, and practically all the drafts afterwards, I can easily say this is one of the best books I have ever read. And anyone who doesn’t pick this up is beyond missing out. I won’t write a full review or say anything even remotely spoilery. You’ll just have to read it for yourself. I am beyond happy that Ashley’s dream for this book has finally come true. I remember when I was harassing her in emails about is there was any word from various places about this. So for this to be an actual book now makes me beyond happy. It doesn’t seem like it, but it’s because there are no actual words I can use.
So just read this!! It’s a beautiful YA historical romance that will warm any person’s heart with the characters’ chemistry. <3 <3 <3 <3
Where do I start with this book...
I read it from it's very first draft, and even in that stage I loved it. The characters, each unique grabbed me, the romance was so cute I couldn't help but like it, the writing was flawlessly smooth and mostly, the plot was just so damn likable.
Under the Trees features a runaway princess who you can't not like for her strength and determination, and a prince hell-bent on defying his father. When he sees the princess run by on a horse, it is the start of a romance that just takes you away. I don't really know how to put into words how much I like this book. It's a fast and fun read that will keep you interested from start to finish.
Another reason I enjoy this one so much is the genre I think. I'll admit to be a fan of the historical romances, the paperbacks you see in stores. But take that genre with younger characters...It's hard to find a YA historical romance that is NOT high fantasy as well. I would suggest this to anyone really--anyone who likes a cute romance, all historical romance fans, any lovers of YA.
