“Complexly plotted… skillfully drawn.” –The Wall Street Journal A series of deadly explosions rock the city of New York and with too many victims and no known motive, the F.B.I. turns once again to Dr. Lucas Page in Robert Pobi’s Under Pressure. On a beautiful October evening, New York City’s iconic Guggenheim Museum is closed for a tech company’s private gala. Until an explosion rocks the … company’s private gala. Until an explosion rocks the night, instantly killing 702 people, including every single attendee–yet the damage to the building itself was minimal.
An explosion of that precision was no accident and, in response, the FBI mobilizes its entire team — but the sheer number of victims strains their resources. Were all 702 victims in the wrong place at the wrong time, or was there only one target and 701 unlucky bystanders? That many victim files is a staggering amount of data to sort through and Brett Kehoe, Special Agent in Charge of Manhattan, decides that he can’t do this without more computational power.
Dr. Lucas Page, astrophysicist, university professor, and former FBI agent, is uniquely gifted for the task at hand–he can visualize a crime scene as if he was a bystander and can break down any set of data at a glance. Even though Page wants nothing to do with the FBI, with his city under attack and his family at risk, he steps in to find a killer in a haystack before they strike again.

Explosive, intelligent, and exceptionally gripping!
Under Pressure is an adrenaline-pumping, police procedural that has astrophysicist and former FBI agent, Dr. Lucas Page begrudgingly working once again with his former employer to help them track down a bomber who seems intent on creating panic, mass destruction, and an ever-growing body count.
The prose is sharp and tight. The characters are astute, scarred, and tenacious. And the plot keeps you on the edge of your seat with its short, intense chapters that submerge you, page after page, into a world full of twists, turns, action, intrigue, indulgence, greed, power, duplicity, revenge, and murder.
Overall, Under Pressure is an intricately woven, meticulous, sinister tale by Pobi that is made extra special by the protagonist being such a unique, flawed, extraordinary character.
City of Windows was one of my favorite crime thriller last year and with Under Pressure, i could feel the pressure of keeping up with the hype and my enjoyment for the series.
I can only say that there’s no pressure at all because i am just in love with Dr Lucas Page and his character. Somehow, the author managed to make him even more appealing and interesting, more like a superman and indestructible , especially in a certain scene that made me think at Robocop actually :))
Same great writing that keeps you entangled in the pages of this fast paced, suspenseful , twisted thriller that many readers will enjoy for sure.
I can’t wait to see what Pobi lays up next for Lucas and his eccentric personality.
Oh my goodness but I love love love these books!! Lucas Page is amazing, his wife and Whitaker are rockstars, the mysterious underpinning each book are original and well crafted, and the back and forth revelations – inch by painstaking inch – of his history with Kehoe are fascinating to witness unfold… There’s so much going on, layered seven secrets deep here – I want five more books to come out tomorrow just so I can watch it all unravel at the current pace, which is perfect for this series. If you haven’t started this series yet, do so quickly – there’s a lot going on and you won’t want to waste a minute catching up when the next installment hits the shelves!!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my obligation-free review copy.
You are back with Dr. Luca Page; he has been called in after a bomb goes off in the Guggenheim Museum. He of course has figured out the type of bomb before the experts and there begins the back and forth between him and the team that he is supposed to work with. He now needs to look through the over 700 victims to see what if anything sticks out as to why this occurred.
Just like the first book, you are taken on a ride from the first page to the very last page. You do have some of the characters from the first book in this one and you also get to see a little more of his home life as well. Overall, this was a very good story with really good characters and the book will keep you guessing but also entertained all the way through. Another excellent job by the author and very much worth the read. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 5 stars. Follow us at

Detailed and action packed, Lucas Page is back and man is he good. Page epitomizes the quirky character, specifically that one that people love to hate, but somehow still love. He is unique and his skillset is fascinating.
This story involves crimes and the FBI, but it also blends in a beautiful and funny family and friendship element throughout the book and series. His wife is fierce and her slap was epic, for timing and who was slapped. The children are special and I love Page’s interactions with them. The library scene has me intrigued to know what, if anything, comes about with her. This series and author are not shy from killing of seemingly major characters so there was one scene that had me tense and crying…talk about well done!
This is the second book in the series and it should be read in order. You could read this book first and enjoy it, but the details and relationship dynamics from book one play a role in this book. I don’t know what will or can happen next based off of some conversations between characters but I enjoy this series and look forward to seeing Dr. Page, Whitaker, Erin and Maude’s squad again!
Thank you for the chance to read this book and share my opinion!
Under Pressure by Robert Pobi is book two in his Lucas Page series.
Dr. Lucas Page is an astrophysicist, professor at Columbia University and a former FBI agent. Page is physically and socially flawed, but he has the unique ability to quickly analyze and process data well beyond the obvious. He’s been called in to consult for the FBI on a bombing at the Guggenheim Museum that killed 702 people. This is the second FBI case Page has consulted on since leaving the bureau, and he’s literally put his all into solving both cases.
I haven’t read the first book in this series, and though I would have liked more detail on the past incident that injured Page, that didn’t stop this from being a successful standalone novel with sufficient background in all other aspects. Under Pressure is very descriptive with a complex, yet compelling plot. There is plenty of explosive action, literally. The dialogue is vibrant and has humorous touches that provide tension relief for both the characters and the reader. The ending is shocking. I give this novel 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to everyone who enjoys a good thriller.
My thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.
Under Pressure is my first Dr. Lucas Page novel and it is a doozy of nonstop, cover to cover action and carnage. From the Guggenheim Museum blowing up to bombs exploding one after another, the body count just keeps climbing. Lucas has already given an arm and a leg for his job but the latest one puts him in danger’s bullseye on more than one occasion. The astrophysicist is called back into the fold of the FBI from his college position to connect the dots on the bombings. Short on social graces, Lucas sees patterns where no one else can and runs down the truth his way and quickly worms his way into the reader’s heart. Pulse pounding action with unexpected twists and turns, the story had me reading way past my bedtime. Now all Dr. Lucas Page’s novels will be added to my must read shelf. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.
An explosive look at the lengths a person will go for revenge. Lucas Page is drawn back into the world of the FBI after an explosion. It opens up doors for new nightmares after his own accident a decade ago. He is a genius at figuring things out. The story is edgy and takes us through a series of twists and turns as they chase clues to see who the bad guy is. It takes it all the to the last few pages to figure out who has been killing so many people and what the motive behind it all has been which is truly a genius move.
What a ride! It starts at the beginning and doesn’t slow down until the end. Luke is a guy who has a computer-like brain and doesn’t stop until he finds the end of the problem. Even if his life is at risk. When over 700 people are blown up, the FBI calls on Luke to help them figure out a pattern. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the bombing. Then when others, who don’t seem to be connected in any way, are bombed too, Luke has to work over time to see the pattern. Can he figure it out in time? How many more people will be killed before they figure it out?
(4.5)This is my first book by Robert Pobi. It is book 2 and all though I feel like he did a good job filling in blanks for people to read, I wish I had read book 1 first. I feel like I could have embraced Under Pressure so much more, basically put it over the top, make it a 5 star. It was a thrill and a heart wrencher meeting Dr Luas Page and his family. This is a fast paced, explosive (no pun intended) mystery thriller. It is not a sit down take me away sunshine novel. It starts off with a bang and keeps on going. There are moments of levity between Angela, the one person he can work with, who excepts him as he is and they are desperately needed as truly is a non stop ride. It will also make you thing twice about todays social media . The ending was a surprise, that for me is always a win. Thank you so much Robert Poni for asking if I would like to read your book and for the widget to grab on NetGalley. I freely share my thoughts and opinions.
