Before His Choice is the very short prequel to this book and is optional (and available free at time of posting). It is worthwhile for three reasons. First, it gives a peak at who Noah really is and what motivates him by showing him at age fourteen when he helps Natalie escape the commune. Second, it makes a dramatic scene later in the book between Noah and Natalie more meaningful. Lastly, it illustrates more vividly the dangers to women in the commune – matriarchs in particular.

This is part one of a love story that takes place within the walls of a commune. The society within the cult is complex, which makes for a powerful story. A short lexicon is included at the beginning which introduces the terms used within.

Natalie, twenty-two, has led a difficult life. She copes by pushing her memories down, but the scar on her stomach is a vivid reminder of everything she lost. Raised in an orphanage from age six, she has no family and only vague memories from before. But an image online catches her attention one day – a picture that includes a man with a tattoo on his hand that matches the image on the scarf she has from her childhood. The image accompanies an article announcing a recruiting event sponsored by the Family. Natalie attends, hoping to find answers about her past. When she locks eyes with the man from the photo, he seems as interested in her as she is in him, but moments later she finds herself taken against her will.

Patriarch Noah, thirty, always gets what he wants. He has been looking for her for years. When he actually finds her, though, she tests his patience like no other. She will change everything, but he has to follow the plan. He has to let her see everything, experience everything, even the initiation, and even if it means she hates him. When he earns her trust and builds her back up – only then can he tell her everything. Not before.

Natalie wants her freedom. Cognizant of the psychological conditioning she undergoes, she tries to resist. She hates herself for her attraction to Noah. He calms her, but he is one of them so he cannot be trusted. Noah intends to finally make Natalie his wife. Although as a patriarch he has many liberties, he must continue to operate under the radar if his plan has any hope of working. Keeping Natalie in line and out of trouble proves increasingly difficult as she demands answers and realizes her own power.

Noah and Natalie’s story will resonate with fans of The Handmaid’s Tale. Under His Rule is an example of superbly-crafted storytelling. Everything runs smoothly on the surface within the commune. But the struggle for power within the Family brews under the surface, motivating Noah and threatening his plan. The love story begins in the prequel where Noah and Natalie, fourteen and six, are raised in a cult. To protect Natalie from the dangers within, he smuggles her outside. Here, years later, Noah brings her back against her will and must earn Natalie’s trust again. This book ends with a cliffhanger. Be prepared for a book hangover!

Noah and Natalie’s story is beautifully written. It is plot-driven. The plot is very complex, with numerous characters and a religious cult with its own customs and rituals. The characters are nicely developed, though the focus is on plot. The book is written in first person. The POV alternates between Noah and Natalie. I enthusiastically rate this book five stars.

All I can say is WTH did I just read, Clarissa you have once again shocked me and I loved it!

Natalie and Noah are the main characters. Natalie goes to a meeting, curious because she has seen the symbol on her scarf that matches this cult. While there she makes eye contact with him, he has the same symbol tattooed on his hand. She quickly finds herself being taken and she ends up being held in a cold dark room naked. She has to be willing to follow the rules before they will let her out. Noah has set his sights on Natalie and when she’s ready he will claim her.

Overall this was a great dark read.
Natalie is strong willed and stubborn, she challenged Noah which I think turned him on more. Noah was a hot as heck bad guy that I came to like as I learned more about him. There are so many things that will shock you, throw you for a loop and pull you in more. I will warn there are some scenes that could be triggers for some. I loved it Clarissa and I can’t wait to read more.

But every dark desire has a price. Now she’s here in my domain, locked in the dark, waiting for me . And I am more than ready to make her submit.

This book is dark and dirty and so amazing. I am so in love with Clarissa Wild’s dark romances that it is not even funny. This book is told from the point of view of both character’s and I always love when you get the male point of view. This is the story of Natalie and Noah and man do they have one heck of a story to tell. I can’t wait to get the next one in my hands. I am not giving anything away about this book. I went in blind and you need to do it that way too. If you love psychological romances then you are going to love this book.

What a story. I couldn’t put it down.. even if I had to, sometimes.
To follow The Family through Natalie and Noah’s eyes, made it almost real.
I have to know more.

This is a well written story which may contain triggers for some, so be aware! Natalie and Noah’s story is a brilliant psychological suspense, with some crazy twists, and is a dark and sinister page turner which had me on tenterhooks throughout. I cannot wait to read more from this gifted author, whose work I highly recommend.

This is book is the story of Noah, and Natalie, and boy is it a twisted story. When Natalie seeks out Noah to answer some questions about her past, she is lured into his depraved world. This was a dark read, intense, suspenseful, gritty, raw, and emotional. The characters are well written, and have great chemistry, and I can’t wait to continue in the second book!

This book is spectacular! I was captivated from the beginning! I did not want to put it down and I didn’t. My hubby was on his own for the evening! Who needs sleep, I had to know how it was going to play out! Complex characters, dark and intriguing storyline and chemistry and desire of the chart! A must have read!!! Wow! This story has it all! It’s dark, mysterious and will keep you on the edge of your seat! Natalie knows that there is something from her past that has answers to her questions and she has a strong desire to try and find out. But when she stumbles onto something she shouldn’t, her whole world changes. Noah is an influential member in a dark society, and when he sees Natalie, he knows she’s the one and will do anything to make her his. Even if Natalie wants no part of him. These two characters belong together even though Natalie fights Noah along the way. But there is something familiar about him and the place they end up. But why? If you want answers, then read this book. While it ends on a cliffhanger, I can’t wait for the next book to find out what happens!
