A bond that will be tested beyond all reason.USA Today Bestselling Author Jean Grainger is taking you to Ireland…For Liam, Patrick, and Hugo, life in 1960’s Ireland proves to be both idyllic and flawed. Leading vastly different lives, an unexpected friendship blooms between the teenagers when they all attend a private Catholic boarding school, … when they all attend a private Catholic boarding school, a bond that seems unbreakable.
But, in a world where the Catholic Church is a pervasive presence, and life is both simple and complicated, can their friendship survive as they navigate love and loyalty, secrets and lies? Are they close enough to weather the gale, or will their separate struggles tear them apart?
In Under Heaven’s Shining Stars, author Jean Grainger is reminiscent of the late Maeve Binchy as she brings to life the struggles and simplicity that often go hand-in-hand with growing up. Really enjoyed this book. Pretty sad in reality but, was an interesting read.
A rare find!
Would make a great movie
I had high hopes for this book. However, its premise was based on unrealistic PC drivel…
I have enjoyed reading all of the books in this series. The author is a wonderful story teller.
I really enjoyed this book, every time I thought I knew where it was going she threw a curve. The three main characters were fully written & their relationship was very enviable. great telling of Irish life & beliefs, much info about the Catholic
religion & the priesthood. Great love stories among the many members of the families.
Very enjoyable, did not want to put it down. Real life characters to which I can relate with an intriguing story. Well done!
Loved it
I love Jean Grainger
This book taking place in Ireland is extremely well written with a great understanding of human character and it deals with some problems in a very nice yet often subtle way. A book I really treasured.
THE CHARACTERS ARE ENGAGING AND THEIR FRIENDSHIP IS ENDEARING AND ENDURING. HATED TO SEE THIS STORY END.
What can I say? I loved it and highly recommend it!
Love every one of her books!
Very well written The setting is one of my era and I applaud the writer for stepping out of the box in addressing touchy subjects of that period.
Not as solid as her other books, of which I have read two others.
This book had just the right mix of good story, good characters, solid friendships — all in an Irish setting.
I highly recommend it as a memorable read.
Wonderful story teller.
Story set in Irish Catholic world of three boys who are student at exclusive school. One is wealthy, the other two on scholarships. The unlikely friendships formed among these three and the events surrounding their lives makes for a wonderful read. The tragedies, losses and twists of their lives bind them closer as they stand by, fight for each other and accept each of their differences.
Topics great for discussion. Unexpected play and character development . Coming of age for three boys in fairly modern times in Ireland
I was really getting into this book, couldn’t wait to get to the next chapter. It was clean so sweet, and suddenly the author begins throwing in the F bomb. I don’t understand why authors think that is necessary to sell their books. I hate it and I didnt read one more page after that. I wish we could get a rating on books so I wouldnt waste my time on them if they use bad language.
