What a great read! Honorable, sweet hero, sensible heroine, fated love, and an awesome not-to-be-messed with priestess. I truly enjoyed this book and I’m already looking forward to the next in the series.
This book just flowed for me, and pulled me right into the story. The world building was great and the characters were beautifully written. If you like Cara Bristol’s books, you should like this one.
Cara has done it again! Great world building with wonderful characters and easy read. Can’t wait for the next installment!
Exciting new series.
This is an exciting new series with wonderful characters. Prince K’ev and Rhianna are caught up in deception and danger by their leaders. Will their love for each other prevail? This intriguing storyline is full of passion and danger. I can’t wait to see happens next.
SHE HAS FYRE—WE ARE ONE
Following the prequel, it is now fifteen years later from the visit of Prince K’ev of Dracon to Earth. Relations have deteriorated with broken agreements, and King K’rah has summons K’ev to inform him he will have a human consort, and the agreement with Earth will be the president’s daughter, Helena. A little bit about Draconians, they can smell fear and lies, among other things. During K’ev visit to Earth, he disliked the smell of humans and their lies.
“I don’t like it any better than you do, but it has been suggested a more intimate, personal relationship between a member of the royal family and a human might foster détente between Draco and Earth and restore an alliance.” –King K’rah to K’ev
The plot will have Helena and her best friend from college, Rhianna, to meet the Draconian envoy and traveling to Dracon together, but deceit will have Helena trying to convince the minister of the royal court that Rhianna is the president’s daughter and then abandoning her. But fooling K’ev won’t be that easy, he can smell her lies. Before Rhianna knows what’s happening, Helena leaves the ship, and they are leaving Earth heading into space. It doesn’t take long for K’ev to uncover that maybe she was duped by her own people. Now, a change in course will have them going to the planet Elementa—one that Dracon had claimed and Earth has started to colonize. Will seeing it help Rhianna learn the truth?
“A Draconian requires three things: treasure, truth, and fyre.”
What is happening to K’ev and his dragon? The dragon is calling Rhianna his mate—that can’t be; she has no fyre.
“We are two, and we are one. Different and same.” –K’ev explaining his dragon to Rhianna
“She has fyre. We are one.” –his dragon to K’ev
“The duality of being dragon and man, separate yet the same, boggled her mind like a religious koan.”
The story has plenty of mystery, suspense, betrayal, lies, secrets, and angst. The time together between K’ev and Rhianna brings them closer, especially with his dragon screaming that she is their mate, they must protect her. Showing her what her people have done, and then learning she is used as a scapegoat with a nefarious plot doesn’t help. What is the future of Earth—is a war coming next?
Now that mating has taken place, their fyre grows stronger. The death of a mate is harmful to any Draconian. “Your screams of pleasure will be all the music I need. This won’t be sex,” he said.
“We will mate. Our fyres will join as one.”
The story will have many twists and turns, and just when things between them have them planning their future—a message will alter their fate. Will K’ev ever trust Rhianna again? Did she betray him? What will become of their future?
The story is a roller-coaster ride of two mates caught between planets disagreements. One has family and friends on Earth that could face annihilation, and the other is the son of a King who is ready to declare war. It will take a wise woman to make a difference and turn this tale around. The story has mild sex scenes. I can’t wait to read the next story, Line of Fyre that will have Helena Marshfield and Prince T’mar.
An exciting, volatile new world!
I am thrilled with the story of Rhianna and Prince K’ev. Can she trust him when his King is threatening to take reprisals against earth? As for K’ev, he knows when she is lying about something, but he and his dragon are drawn to her. What a tangled situation! How to unravel this without damage to loved ones? There is so much danger for them. I love Rhianna’s spirit, her love of her family, her bravery in frightening situations, and, of course, her passion for her new-found mate. For a big, rough dragon, K’ev can be quite romantic: “One day less than an eternity wouldn’t be enough time with you.”
Great reading! A very dramatic start to a new series. I can hardly wait for what comes next.
Alien fated mates. It’s a good one and a good series.
First in a wonderful series. The world building is amazing!
Wow! Love, betrayal, suspense, great characters, and a fast-paced plot that never bores. Totally recommend.
I really enjoyed getting to know Rhianna and watching the plan she expected to participate in unravel as the adventure kicked in! The story was romantic and imaginative with an unexpected but happy ending! Great book!
Such an amazing story! Cara Bristol writes such creative romances about dragons and this is a real winner. The characters are riveting, there’s intrigue and romance, betrayal and love. You’ll love this book from start to finish and then be ready to read it all over again.
This is a new series for Cara Bristol. It starts with a prequel by the same name as the first book, Under Fyre. The couple, Rhianna and K’ev, are wonderful. He hates humans and would rather give up his fire than take one to his bed. Rhianna is an intelligent, special woman who falls for the dragon but doesn’t realize she’s part of a horrible plan to bring down the dragons.
Cara makes us feel part of the story. She helps you connect with the characters and really come to care for and about them. I loved this book and can’t wait for the next.
Under Fyre is the first book in Ms. Bristol’s Alien Dragon Shifters Series. Rhianna is expecting to accompany her best friend as she becomes a consort to a Draconian prince, but she’s shocked when her friend leaves her stranded on the ship. Shocks continue as she realizes she knows Prince K’ev from his previous trip to Earth. Forced together with lies and distrust, they try to unravel some of the secrets and betrayals between their species, they also have a connection and attraction. Just as things start to look up, Rhianna is in danger. Will K’ev and Rhianna ever find their forever?
Holy smokes, there are so many twists, turns, lies, betrayals, a steamy connection, and some amazing displays of imagination! I feel like at about every quarter of the book, I had to take a breather because I knew something big was about to happen and blow my mind! I loved this story and I think Ms. Bristol did an amazing job at drawing me into the characters, their story, and the political unrest and I really didn’t want to put the book down! I felt so bad for Rhianna as her whole story unfolded, with her best friend’s play in it all, and everything else that happens. She’s brave, she’s determined, and my favorite, she is compassionate towards both humans and the Draconians. K’ev is so interesting because he doesn’t like humans much, but he’s always felt drawn to Rhianna. I loved the same but different aspect with his dragon, as well! This whole story was fascinating, I loved the romance, and I look forward to the next book to see where this series is going to go!
Two people caught between their respective planets aggressions makes for a turbulent, intense and complex romance. I really like these characters, especially Rhianna. If a solution to a potentially deadly disagreement isn’t found it could cost her loved ones on both sides. The story is surrounded by political manipulations, intrigue, challenges and danger creating a whirlwind of thrilling action and electrifying romance. Looking forward to the next in the series.
Book 1 of the Alien Dragon Shifters series, although there is a prequel novella that I would definitely read before this one! This introduces us to K’ev and Rhianna. K’ev has been ordered by his father to take a human as a consort in order to bring about peace with Earth. Or that is the hope anyway. He never expects to find his mate in a human, as they don’t have fire in order to be a mate. Rhianna has been betrayed but who she thought was a friend. But she doesn’t realize that everything goes further than even what she thought. And when the worst almost happens, they both almost lose everything.
I absolutely loved this story! Rhianna has just the right amount of snark and sass to make you fall in love with her. K’ev may be arrogant but he also is willing to fight for what he believes in and that includes against his father. I love the twist that you never expect to see coming but it was GREAT!! I don’t want to say too much because I think it will take away from the story and how everything goes between them but I cannot wait Helena’s story!
Under Fyre is book one in the Alien Dragon Shifters series by Cara Bristol. Wow! I loved this. I loved everything about it, the characters, the world, the romance, the sexy times!
The dragons have lived on their planet, Draco, for tens of thousands of years. But the environment, one they require to survive, is slowly cooling and they need to find another planet to call home. They found such a place in Elementa. They legally staked their claim to the planet only the humans from Earth, having discovered some precious metals there, have sneakily snuck in under the wire and are attempting to steal rights to the planet. When the dragons first made their presence known to humans, their relationship was cordial. But now, tensions are high and threats have been made with the current situation. In order to resolve things, the Draconians have requested that a human woman be sent to Draco as a concubine for the son of the dragon king.
Prince K’ev doesn’t particularly care for humans. They are dishonest and sneaky. The only human that ever intrigued him was a little girl he met years ago when he was touring Earth. She would be a woman now and he wonders often what became of her. He doesn’t want this human concubine but when Rhianna boards his ship, he knows instantly that she is the same little girl he met all those years ago.
Rhianna Montclair owes everything to her best friend, Helena Marshfield who is the president’s daughter. So when Helena asks Rhianna to accompany her to Draco, she can’t say no. Only Rhianna finds out very soon that she is but a pawn in a deceitful plan to defeat the dragons. It seems as though everyone was in on the plan but her.
K’ev’s dragon immediately recognizes that Rhianna is his mate. It takes his human side a little longer to accept this fact. But it is clear to both K’ev and Rhianna immediately that there is something there. K’ev believes that he can get her out of his system but figures out soon enough that will never happen.
“Could she accept him as he was? Man and dragon? The same, but different. Could she accept him in his entirety? Or would she see him as a monster?”
As K’ev and Rhianna come to terms with what they are to each other, they are also stuck in the middle between their races, K’ev’s father the King is stuck on how he sees humans, and Rhianna is slowly realizing that the people she trusted are not what they seem at all. Is there a way for these two to be together?
“My mate. Mine.”
I could not put this down! Rhianna was such a brave and strong woman. I love that she told K’ev right from the beginning that she was his partner, not anything less. The chemistry between these two is off the charts! The next book in this series is going to be Helena’s story in Line of Fyre. I can’t wait! I’m so glad to finally be discovering this author’s work. I am so looking forward to reading some of her previous books as well!!
“Take a human? As a mate?” K’ev from Under Fyre
—>>> This prequel whetted my appetite for this author’s new dragon shifter world and Rhianna as his human mate. A second-chance meeting fifteen years later puts them at odds with each other as Rhianna ends up on his ship while Prince K’ev is following his father’s directives. Together, they discover the truth of what is happening on nearby planet Elementa, which may jeopardize this alien race of Draconians’ ability to find a new home in their search to replace their dying planet.
Wow what a wonderful start to a new series. At first I did not like K’ev but he grew on me. The world building is phenomenal and the characters are a lot of fun. The king is awful. I loved the twist in the end. This is a story that has a little bit of everything. Intrigue, suspense, angst, love, and a happy ending.
Helena and Rhianna became best of friends while in college, they could have passed as sisters. While being bunkered in base 1 Rhianna has the best of the best. Not because of her parents but of Helena’s father the president of the United States. She had her college paid for and a degree in Draconian. When the time came Helena and Rhianna was going to Draco Helena to be the consort of Prince K’ev. But not everything went as planned and soon Rhianna finds she was betrayed by her friend and the president. As the story unfolds Rhianna cant believe she was setup and K’ev was behind her 100% until one fatal day, that put everyone in danger. Being put in the dungeon, she couldn’t believe K’ev didn’t believe her but in the end the real story is told from the Priestess. Now Draco wants a consort for the eldest son Prince T’Mar ulu K’rah Qatin, K’ev’s oldest brother and now Helena puts into motion she’ll be hijacking on that ship back to Draco and try to set it right.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC.
Rhianna has been fed a diet of anti-dragon propaganda since childhood. When the shaky peace between Dragons and Humans is put under stress, the leaders decide that a political match would shore up relations. Rhianna is best friends with the President’s daughter and they are packed up to go to the Dragon homeworld. But all does not go to plan and Rhianna finds herself alone with a very miffed dragon!
K’ev may be a prince but even he must answer to the King. But his dragon is determined that no mistake has been made – Rhianna is theirs and it won’t give her up easily. So now K’ev has to help Rhianna acclimatise to a new planet, unravel the mystery of the secret colony and deal with Earth’s political games!
I loved that Rhianna would commit to something to help a friend, even against her better judgements but I also felt that she had used by the President and that her so-called friend wasn’t much of a friend! K’ev can be a bit of a romantic when he tries and I am excited to see what happens in book 2!
