Another great book by Cara Bristol. Fun characters, great problems to be solved and always a happy ending.
A must read
Great read,would read other books
An interesting take on dragon shifters. Very quick read that would have benefited from more character and plot development. However, an enjoyable read.
Loved the series. Great read.
This book was very unpredictable but in the end I’m glad there was a happy ending.
Great read
Parts of this story broke my heart and other parts made me cheer!
K’ev and Rhianna have some serious heat, (no pun intended) as well as some serious problems.
She was only suppose to be there as an expert on dragon affairs, not betrayed by her own. But she remembers him.
Earth was suppose to sent him a consort, a concubine, as a show of good faith. He remembers this one (or rather his dragon does) she’s their mate.
Two planets at odds over one planet. One race needs a new home, the other race needs the resources.
Will the betrayal rip them apart to choose sides or will it bring them together to save both races?
Another good one from Cara Bristol!
I enjoyed the fast pacing and wonderful characters in this story. Good job!
I recently started reading books by Cara Bristol and was hooked from the first one read. I have now read several, one of which is Under Fyre. I absolutely loved it. The characters are wonderfully written. This book is the first in the series about an alien planet, Draco, that is populated by Dragon shifters. First encounters were peaceful, but something happens to destroy trust. The Draconian king has insisted that the President’s daughter is sent to Draco to become a concubine to one of his sons, as a sign of good faith. The President has no intention of sending his daughter, and at the urging of a key advisor, sends a doppelganger in her place. Betrayed and abandoned by her friend and her planet, Rhianna is on her own, with a dragon shifter who hates humans. Their attraction may be what saves them. So Good! Just finished Book Two, Line of Fyre, but will be writing a separate review for that one! Love this series!
great read, can’t wait for next book.
“Under Fyre” is a unique paranormal story. Dragon shifters from the planet Draco have been searching for a new planet to inhabit for over 500,000 years. Their planet is dying. During their search they checked out Earth. It did not meet their requirements. However, they tried to establish good will between the two worlds. When the planet Elementa was discovered King K’rah claimed it for Draco. Because of Earth’s duplicity, President Marshfield followed his advisor Mr. Biggs directions went behind the King’s back and set up an exploratory settlement on Elementa for purpose of mining their rich natural resources. King K’rah demanded they cease and desist or war would be imminent. To take steps towards reconciliation Earth was to send one woman to be the consort of King K’rah’s son Prince K’ev. What was different about this book was that the Dracoians had a king but they were all guided by the Priestess of the Fyre. Now that is an interesting subplot to read about. Getting back to the plot, Helena has been duped and used as a pawn for years. They have been grooming her just for this very project. Against her will Helena is on a ship to Draco with Prince K’ev. During the trip from Earth to Draco many lies are exposed, trust was a hard commodity and shockingly K’ev had a hard time accepting that a human was his eternal mate. A tentative concession between Helena and K’ev began to grow. This is the part where things get really exciting. So many confusing contradictions had to be sorted through. At the same time the pull between K’ev and Helena was getting harder and harder to ignore. Helena even though she was duped she still wanted to save Earth. K’ev had to consider what his father wanted and demanded. He was not an easy King to please. So, you have the romance between K’ev and Helena, you have the imminent war between Draco and Earth, and yet there was another powerplayer in the mix. There are so many surprises in this story you will have a hard time putting the book down. It is definitely a page turner. What a wonderful way to start a new series. Kudos to author Cara Bristol for writing an exciting book. I really enjoyed reading it and look forward to the next book in the series. I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Diplomatic relations have broken down and a human woman and a dragon prince find themselves caught up in the middle. Can the flames of mating that consume them forge a path to a more peaceful destiny? A new sizzling sci-fi romance from the pen of an establish, favorite author simmered with intrigue, engaging characters, and a new spicy hot romance pair.
Under Fyre begins with a treacherous move that leaves human woman, Rhianna, in a dangerous rock and a hard place situation. When she was a child, she was enamored with the dragon prince she encountered, but then she grew up and learned the dragons couldn’t be trusted. Only problem? At the moment, it was her own people who had performed a gross deception and she’s alone and on her way to the dragon planet to become the consort of one of their princes. And, oh my stars, he’s the one who sparked her fancy as a child and now he regards her with predatory, possessive eyes. And, another side of the story which is honest and he has proof.
K’ev didn’t want a consort, but followed orders to take one of the puny humans. His reluctance fell away the moment he realized that the young human female he had encountered years before stands before him. She’s part of a human plot and he smells deception, but not on her. No, it’s swirling around her, though. His dragon side is shouting that this human is his mate. But how can that be? She has no fyre, right? Regardless, Rhianna is in danger as is all her race and he needs to save her.
What could be better than an alien romance from this author? Why, an alien DRAGON romance, of course! The teaser prequel was interesting, but it didn’t half-way prepare me for the wonder I would enjoy in this first full-length entry of the series. I do love a good political intrigue plot and a villain I can detest, but add that too an intriguing alien race, strong worldbuilding and smoldering hot fated mates romance will pull me in every time. I’ve come to trust this author to provide that even in her lighter sci-fi romances. Under Fyre isn’t light and humorous like the Alien Mates books and reminds me of the fun suspense that came with her earlier cyborg series.
K’ev and Rhianna do have the fated mates romance going on along with the political match they have both agreed to so they don’t take much persuading to fall into love. But, that said, I didn’t mind and liked them together as a couple. She makes him start to care about important matters and he patiently shows her that there are two sides to every story. They have some big adventure moments and whew-boy hot sexy times. There is a point when they both have their doubts and then that entertaining twist at the end which, along with the villain’s shenanigans, will set things up for the rest of the series.
All in all, Under Fyre did a fab job of introducing the series, engaging me with the story and making me excited for more alien dragon shifter romance. Light sci-fi romance fans should definitely snatch this one up.
