They say you can never come home again. After serving the past eight years in the military I understand that all too well. I’m back in my hometown, but everything has changed. Gone is the sweet girl and best friend I left behind. In her place, a foul-mouthed, do whatever she wants no matter what I say, and drive me completely insane kind of woman. Kate’s determined to push all my buttons, and … my buttons, and now that she’s my new roommate things are about to get worse.
Did I mention we recently hooked up for the best night of sex I’d had in my entire life? Right. That was before she moved into my apartment. Now every time she prances by in one of her curve hugging outfits I can’t stop remembering how good she felt in my arms. How perfectly our bodies fit together. Too bad we can’t be in the same room without picking a fight. Only, lately I’m starting to feel more than just irritation for her. More than just desire. More than anything I’ve ever felt before.
Uncovering Desire reads as a standalone, or start with Evie and Tate’s story in Uncovering Love.

I found out about Kasey Shea not that long ago and I’m so glad I did. I fell in love with this cast of characters. I loved Kate’s character. She was a strong character yet was vulernable. She was sassy and spunky which I loved. I loved Jon and Kate’s chemistry. I loved everyone’s relatable banter and friendships. I was super excited to get more of Jon’s point of view after reading book #1 in the series. You can read this book as a complete standalone and not be confused about what happened previously.
All around fabulous book!
Awesome book! This is my first book by Kacey Shea but it won’t be the last one for sure.
I loved the story of Jon and Kate. They’re both stubborn and different and can’t believe they being a couple could work. But while being good friends and interacting for some weeks in the same living space will probe them they are meant to be more than friends.
I liked the dialogues and situations the main characters are involved. They have a hard past and need help and it’s good to see that they aren’t perfect, they have flaws but fight to be better for their love ones. No matter is those are family or friends. Their scenes together are powerful, appealing and hot. I also enjoyed the secondary characters a lot.
Great contemporary romance!
We met Jon and Kate in book 1 of this series. Jon came back from the army and crashes at his friend Evie’s place and they end up starting a PI business together. Evie is best friends with Kate, and although they’re kind of opposites, they’re cute together. Anyway, Evie finds her match in book 1 (no spoilers here- go read it to see who she ends up with and how).
Evie, Kate, and Jon hang out fairly often (they grew up together- two are bffs and two work together- makes sense). Kate says outrageous things around Jon, goading him, and Jon reacts. There’s obvious chemistry between these two that ends up really sparking when Kate ends up needing a place to stay for a few weeks. Jon ends up putting his foot in his mouth more times than I can count, and Kate flip flops between hot and cold with her feelings towards and treatment of Jon. At the end of the day, both have issues to address before they can ever have a good start together.
While this book can certainly stand alone, I think that knowing more about Jon from book 1 (and his friendship with Evie) is beneficial. 3.5-4 stars for a match between a hot-tempered, protective veteran and a provocative, emotionally closed-off artist.
I was so impatient and anticipating the release of this book after meeting Jon and Kate in Uncovering Love. From the moment they were introduced they had this spark that I just knew that their book was going to be epic. After receiving and devouring Uncovering Desire, I can say that they are incredible together. Jon and Kate are explosive, sweet, sensual, and an all around entertaining read. They do everything from breaking and entering, crashing cars, rooming together, and everything in between.
Jon recently moved home after the military and started a private investigation business with his best friend Evelyn. The only problem he has is dealing with the alluring, seductive, Kate who grew up with both of them and is still close friends with Ev. She makes both his temper and body boil which drives him crazy! Kate is sassy, gorgeous, knows how to turn on a guy and make him mad at the same time. Being able to avoid Kate is going to be impossible when a situation arises and they are thrown together as temporary roommates.
I highly recommend for the heat, heart, as well as the fun. Kate and Jon are sure to spice up your evening and leave you heated and in need of a tall glass of water. This by far is my favorite in the series and can be read as a standalone but I would still recommend reading the first book to experience more of these characters. Kacey Shae does a fabulous job of entertaining the reader with funny and steamy scenes along with bringing a new reader up to speed.
I love the friends to lovers trope because of the history and shared experiences between the characters. They have a foundation to build on, and their love for one another organically evolves. In Kate and Jon’s case, their journey was a little different. The separation they experienced while Jon was in the Army skewed the natural progression these stories usually take. Kate and Jon didn’t have that continuity in their relationship, and they lacked the knowledge of each others adult experiences to help them understand their current states of mind. Jon and Kate were different people on the surface; however, they were still quite similar underneath their pain. And they both put up walls to guard their hearts against loss. It was clear they needed someone to help heal those hidden wounds, and I was glad they had each other.
It was evident that there was an attraction between Kate and Jon. However, it wasn’t until after Evie fell for Tate in book 1 that I felt like they had time to recognize it. And like Kate, I wondered how deep Jon’s feelings were for Evie and if Kate would be a substitute for the one woman Jon couldn’t have. This was especially true in light of Jon’s obvious opinions about Kate’s perceived lifestyle. Yes, she put up a front to hide her true self, but I felt like I was hitting my head up against a wall trying to reason out Jon’s image of the person Kate was. Of course, Kate wasn’t making it easy on him either. She constantly threw up walls around everyone and played the sexy single independent woman to a T. But Jon’s assumptions about her were a little more than I could handle. For someone who was a PI and had known this woman almost all their lives, I wondered how he could think so poorly of Kate. Then there were his extracurricular activities with Alex when he was serving overseas. That whole story line was glossed over and only made me think Jon was a hypocrite. I guess I just didn’t really feel like I connected with either of these characters. I wanted so much more from them. In the end, I enjoyed their story and was happy with the conclusion. And if you’re looking for an easy and sexy read, this is the perfect book.
