Unconditional was my first read from QB Tyler and it absolutely blew me away! This story has angst that keeps you turning the pages and heat that makes you stop to take a break and cool down. Cal is sexy, caring, protective, and a total alpha. His counterpart, Maddie, is sassy, loving, smart, and knows what she wants, even if everyone around her thinks it’s wrong. You do not want to miss this taboo read! 5 stars isn’t enough.
I love me a great taboo book and this one fit perfectly! I loved all of the characters and the story and the angst! And oh my is it HOT! Definitely recommend!
This is a new author to me, and my goodness, I cannot wait to get 1-clicking her work. Cal and Maddie’s story is a forbidden romance, which is an emotional roller coaster journey from beginning to end. This is a beautifully written story which is raw, gritty, refreshingly unique, and filled with angst, secrets, and unexpected twists. I was totally intrigued and hooked throughout and I recommend for all. Hats off to this talented author for penning a brilliant story!
This is my first book by Q.B. Tyler and it was great! I’ve gotten into taboo books lately and wonder how an author is going to take you from feeling like ‘that’s not right’ to ‘yeah, I see how that happened and it totally works’. It happened with this book. You will get totally invested in Cal and Maddie’s relationship from the beginning to the end. There are so many surprises in this book that you are reading as fast as you can to see what happens but then sad once you get to the end. Such a great book. All the feels! If you love taboo… Read. This. Book.
This cover was just so stunning that I wanted to read the story that went with it. Even though the blurb warns about the content being “taboo” I was still intrigued. My feelings about this book is very cloudy and confusing as the writer did a fantastic job, but I found it very hard to get my mind on board with the story due to the context of it and I kept on picturing myself as someone that fell in love with a child I raised, but just couldn’t wrap my mind around it or accept it. I also felt like there was way too much sex throughout the book which made it a bit over the top…it was extremely raunchy, so if that’s your thing, you’d love this book. I did however enjoy the last bit of the book when things got exciting which brought some angst to the story and a twist.
All the stars in the world for this one. Must read!!!
This book certainly will not be for everyone. There is a forbidden aspect and I warn those who are a bit icky about age gap guardian relationships to check the trigger warnings before reading this book. Me? I love a little forbidden. So I devoured this book within 48 hours!
Maddie was only 7 years old when her father killed her mother than turned around & killed himself. Maddie considered herself lucky that she got out alive but what she wasn’t counting on was the young handsome officer who she found herself attached to from the first moment she touched Cal Grayson.
Cal takes Maddie in & helps raise her. Fast forward 10 years later & Maddie is going on to her 18th Birthday. With a traumatic past, Maddie has grown into a very mature young lady who knows what she wants. And who she wants is Cal Grayson. Cal is her hero, her guardian & the man she looks up to. She can’t help he is 14 years her senior & feeling the attraction she feels.
Cal has been a parent figure to Maddie since he found her in that wardrobe at the scene of a homicide. As she grows older, he begins realising he loves Maddie. But not the way he should love her. Cal knows Maddie has a huge crush on him. What if he returned the same feelings? He can’t possibly go there, especially being the chief police officer of their town.
This book follows Maddie & Cal finding themselves in their new relationship, but also making it work when they have everyone telling them how “wrong” it is. A steamy taboo romance that you cannot put down. 4/5 stars with 4/5 steam.
I ike it periodt.
Unconditional:
Unconditional is the very definition of taboo and forbidden. When Officer Cal finds a young Maddie left in the middle of a heinous crime scene, he takes it upon himself to make sure that she is okay and well. A protective urge wells inside him, and he ends up taking over Maddie’s guardianship.
As time passes though, it’s hard for Cal not to notice the beautiful woman Maddie is becoming–seductive, alluring, and everything he absolutely should not want. It’s really only a matter of time when his tightly-reigned control snaps, but what happens when everyone they love finds out, is an angsty journey with a whole lot of steam.
I liked the writing in this book–the internal struggle, the descriptions, and it was overall done really well. But, the plot was slightly lacking for me. It was definitely a new category of taboo for me, and I found myself biting my nails, thinking, “They’re not really going to do this are they?” and then they proceeded to do that thing. So it’s entirely possible this just wasn’t my thing!
I love a good plot twist, and the one in this seemed out of the blue, and maybe even slightly unrealistic. Nevertheless, it was a good read and delivered on the spice I was looking for.
Not sure how to rate this book….
I did love Maddie and Cal’s chemistry. It was passionate, daring and at times swoon worthy but my real issue is how fast this story escalated in the beginning. Cal knows Maddie has been eyeing him for a while now, so he is trying to be the adult by wearing a shirt and making sure he has on sweats instead of boxers, things like that. Then the moment Maddie really goes for it with Cal he cannot stop it. Yes, that is usually hot or intriguing but, in this story, it felt a bit off. Like OK Cal not 3 pages ago you were saying you can’t no way no how then you are dry humping on the floor?? I am not opposed to story like this at all it just felt a bit unbelievable in this story.
Then my other niggle was that when Cal’s mom found out she was just 100% good with it. No questions, no concerns just that she saw it coming from a mile away. Which made for a bit of a “WTF” moment but again it felt unbelievable. Last thing that got to me a bit was the first time they had sex because it felt unbelievable. I keep saying that a lot, but it is true. It was a sexy scene but a bit much for a virgin.
All in all, this story was really good. I had my issues but the love you felt between these two was real. Q.B. Tyler knows how to make you fall for a couple despite the circumstances and to me that outweighs the bad any day.
Ugh, yes. Taboo stories are becoming one of my faves and this one didn’t disappoint. I liked the relationship between the two and the naughty scenes were hot.
^^That was my first general review of this book and I feel like I need to add a bit more to this review. I wouldn’t necessarily call this a “taboo” read, more like a forbidden feeling to it. Why? I mean, Cal is older and he did raise Maddie for the last 10 years. They weren’t related, but I guess the fact that he knew her as a little girl makes people uncomfortable. Since he was her guardian.
So knowing all of the above plus the whole forbidden aspect of it makes the sex scenes super hot. Like that scene where she basically humps him in the hallway? Ohhhh lord, I still think about that months later. Like.. I know it wasn’t some elaborate sexual thing but still got my blood boiling anyway, hah.
So I always rec this book for anyone looking for an age gap romance. Definitely one I’d read again.
Couldn’t put it down!
I live for unique love stories, and Madeline and Cal definitely have a unique one. Unconditional has your attention for the beginning. Prior to their romantic relationship, I love the bond they share. It’s undeniable and captivating.
Another taboo treat. Fantastic read Q.B. nailed this trope and I adore Cal and Maddies story. This is an age gap caregiver romance that actually had real consequences for the characters once their relationship comes to light. Don’t worry the HEA is there but the ending took a turn I was not expecting and I was surprised which rarely happens anymore, probably due to the sheer volume of books I read. So kudos to the author I really appreciated that.
The only thing I personally didn’t care for is the Daddy kink ( I know shocking I like age gaps but the act of calling someone daddy is not my thing lol) no shade or kink shaming its just not my thing. However it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of this book. But if you love that this is definitely one to add to the TBR.
Highly recommend for my taboo lovers.
To put it simply, I am mildly obsessed with Cal and Maddie. I downloaded this book on a whim and finished it within 12 hours! QB Tyler did a phenomenal job penning their story! As steamy and sexy as their story is, it’s also beautiful and romantic. I don’t think I can say enough good things about this book! QB Tyler is in new to me Author, and I am ashamed that it has taken me this long to find her.
Maddie has been through a lot, which has made her mature and responsible, probably more than the average senior in high school. The girl knows what she wants and is not afraid to go after it. I loved her character! Her vulnerabilities felt real, and her confidence was the perfect counterbalance. I love her. And let’s be real I’m insanely jealous
Cal is easily one of my top book boyfriends. He always has Maddie‘s best intentions at heart. From the moment he met her, she has been his number one priority. This is where QB Tyler’s writing and character development stands out to me. I never once questioned his motives. He very much was two separate men to me—the Cal when he rescued Maddie and the Cal when he fell in love with her. And I am in love with Cal, who fell in love with Maddie. That man is FIRE
QB Tyler if at any time you feel the need to update us on Cal and Maddie – I am HERE for it!

Unconditional was a good age-gap romance. It was forbidden, taboo and sexy! I loved Cal and his protective alpha male side! I loved the chemistry, the banter and the slow burn! I liked how the beginning captures you and the book just kept my attention before I knew it I read most of the book. I love the build up and the back stories. I loved that it pushed boundaries and for some it maybe wrong but that what makes the story so good!. I liked the suspense, I liked the secrets, the family drama and of course all the sexiness! This book was steamy because Cal is the ultimate alpha male good cop/Chief of police with a dirty side! I DO LOVE A MAN IN UNIFORM!!!
I loved this book but a few things fell short. I give Unconditional 4 stars, but this book is one of my favorite taboo/forbidden/age-gap romances!! I am so looking forward to reading more Q.B. Tyler.
This book is filled with delicious & taboo moments hot enough to make your heart rate increase while reading it. I enjoy a good forbidden love book and this one definitely hit it’s mark. It wasn’t so much the age gap between Cal & Maddie that makes it so forbidden but the role that he has played in her life for the past 10 years.
The connection between these two is so deep and continues to grow & change every day. To lose everything in a matter of seconds and then immediately be gifted a lifeline that you don’t realize at the time will truly change the rest of your life….it’s a blessing that not many in young Maddie’s situation get to experience. But then this sweet girl grows into a strong beautiful soul because of the connection made all those years ago. Then things begin to change between these two as each one begins to realize there are real feelings involved but neither are willing to cross that line.
The attraction is simmering just below the surface but OH MAN…when that flame catches it doesn’t just burn it BLAZES!!
The twist in this book blew my mind. I was not expecting it at all, I never even once thought about it. LOVE when the author can catch me completely off guard and shock me.
If you love age gap/taboo reads, then this is a perfect read for you.
“She feeds the beast, and if I was a better man, I’d tell her to stop. Tell her to run. But I won’t. Because the beast in me is only responding to the one in her.”
Forbidden. Hot. Addicting. AGE GAP.
QB Tyler always SLAYS with her writing. Unconditional is unconventional. It’s forbidden. But it’s pure. It’s love in its rawest form. Cal and Maddie’s story is not your average boy meets girl, boy loves girl story.
Cal and Maddie are so hot that you can almost feel the heat coming from the pages. Cal is dirty and I love it. Maddie knows exactly what she wants and won’t let anything stand in her way.
Another forbidden book that took me by surprise. QB Tyler is a definite fave of mine and I can’t wait to read more of her writing.
“I kiss you and it’s over.”
“What is?”
“Everything we’ve ever known.”
I read this book based off a book recommendation from a friend of mine and it was the best decision I made all week. This story completely consumed me, once I started reading I could not put it down. Maddie and Cal were sexy and sweet and all kinds of forbidden fire. Cal and Maddie connection was so special, you felt unconditional love they shared for one another immediately. And don’t get me started on the their scorching hot out of this world chemistry that melted my kindle. If your looking for forbidden taboo romance this is your book. You want this book. You need this book.
Maddie is seven years old hiding in her closet when junior police officer, Cal, finds her at the crime scene of her parents’ murder/suicide. She is hysterical and won’t let anyone near her besides Cal. So he takes her home thinking in a couple days social services will find her a home. Ten years later Maddie is still living with Cal, he is her legal guardian, but both of them are starting to see the other in a different light and they aren’t sure they can shut off their feelings.
I am not sure how I stumbled onto this one but I am so glad that I did. I am a sucker for age gap and taboo books and this one was absolutely amazing. This book will not be for everyone since he is considered her father figure, but she never calls him dad nor does he call her his daughter. They were always just Cal and Maddie. Me? I loved it. Cal’s turmoil with coming to terms with how his feelings were changing felt real – I really loved when he said that he needed to separate the little girl he raised from the woman she is now and that they both needed space so he could come to terms with that. It felt real instead of some insta okay lets do this. I just respected that so much. I also loved that Maddie felt mature and it would make sense for an older man to want to be in a relationship with her. Their relationship was amazing and the chemistry – holy heck – was it off the charts hot. I also really respected people’s reactions when it came out that they were dating. Again, I am not sure how to describe it, except as real – it felt like how people would react in real life. I am in love with this book and I am really sad that it is over. If you like taboo and age gaps you need this one in your life.
This book is a little forbidden with age gap (16 years) which is right up my street.
Cal saves Maddie when she is seven years old when her parents are involved in a homicide-suicide. She forms a bond with him and he becomes her legal guardian.
Fast forward 10 years later and their feelings for each start to change.
This is my second book of Tyler and like the first book I read of her’s (forget me not – 5) her words drew me in with the sensual story that she created and boy will this story set your kindle of fire!
She sure knows how to write sexy alpha males and Cal is one hot dirty talking cop who I swooned so bad after. He’s possessive and his need to love/care/protect her knows no bounds.
Maddie, I loved her. She was forward and wasn’t shy about her needs and was definitely mature for her age.
I enjoyed the story, maybe a little sad for Henry as I didn’t see that coming but this was one book I could not put down and I can’t wait to read more from Tyler, who’s writing I just love!
