What a ride! This novel had a little bit of everything and every page was just full of something new. Vivid detail, romance, suspense, fantasy…I loved every single page. This author was new to me and with this book I simply cannot wait to see what she comes up with next in this series. Fantastic!!
I give Unchained Memory: Interstellar Rescue Series Book 1 by Donna S. Frelick, 4 stars.
Asia is missing 3 hours of her life. That small amount of time had a massive effect on her life. Now she is trying to find out just what happened in that time frame. This leads her to Ethan, a psychiatrist who specializes in odd cases. But the feeling they have for one another are not to be shared between a doctor and his patient. Plus, the deeper they delve into what really happened, the more they discover how little they really know. But this isn’t the only issue. Ethan has had other patients with similar experiences. Not to mention the people who seem to be after them. Will they get to the truth of what really happened? Or is the cost of information too great?
This was unlike any book I have read before. It was quite interesting, but I thought there was a little too much going on in the beginning. Later on though, it all evens out and is a little more cohesive, but again, this is just my opinion. The characters were done well, they are not just flat cardboard people put here to take up space. Even the secondary characters are enjoyable and have depth to them. There is plenty going on in this book too, so you will not be bored. Plus it has action, romance, and science fiction aspects to it, covering many genres.
If you enjoy science fiction with action and romance thrown in, this book is for you.
5 Stars
Unchained Memory is the first book in the Interstellar Rescue Series by Donna S. Frelick. I have really enjoyed reading this book, and series- coming into it a little backwards by starting with book four and working my way backwards to book one. So, as you can probably guess from my last statement, the books in this series can definitely be read as a standalone without feeling like you are missing out on anything, or any important parts of the story. But, there are other recurring characters in this story/series who are really interesting, and you will find yourself wondering about them and what’s in the other books- so expect that one book won’t be enough, and that you’ll want to catch up on the other stories, too.
This is a bit of a racy space adventure- a science fiction story, full of danger, suspense, emotion, action, adventure, mystery, secrets, and intrigue- all wrapped around a sizzlingly hot romance. But it was the emotive content of the story that I really wasn’t expecting- it snuck up on me, woven through the storyline, but coming to a head towards the end, where I spent the final chapter/s bawling my eyes out. Then add to the mix some combustible chemistry, many intense scenes, heartbreaking details, violence, abuse, danger, hidden agendas, betrayal, friendship, adversity, conspiracy, risk, love, loss, grief, heartache, sacrifices, and memory loss- and you have all the ingredients needed to make this a completely riveting read!
Asia Burdette works at a talent agency in Nashville, doing her best to put the past behind her- but not really succeeding. Her days are plagued with thoughts of what ifs, guilt, and heartache- and her nights are haunted my terrorizing nightmares that leave her with more questions than she has answers for. In a desperate attempt to put it all behind her once and for all, Asia finds herself at yet another Psychiatrist’s office- without any real confidence that he’ll be able to help her.
Ethan Roberts takes on difficult cases- and prides himself on being able to help. He takes this responsibility to his patients very seriously and is respectful and professional, no matter what. But his latest patient is testing his resolve, both personally and professionally- her story is heartbreaking and frightening. He feels for her and is determined to help her. Will Ethan believe her? Will he be able to help her? What happens when danger comes calling? Is there really someone with a hidden agenda, or is it just a misunderstanding? What they discover is so much bigger than either of them ever expected and will change both their lives forever.
The story transitions from past to present and back again through the story- developing a lot of the backstory and character background information. Ms. Frelick cleverly wove the past and present together into a smooth and intriguing read that had me engrossed the whole way through.
There is definitely more to this story than first meets the eye, and it’s more than worth your time, money and effort!
Another fascinating read from a fantastic storyteller!
Thank you, Ms. Frelick!

My rating 4 out of 5 stars
This book was a wonderful read. Not normally my style but I got hooked. The characters are very well written and the storyline is incredible. A nice mix of romance, action and sci fi.
I really liked the character of Asia, she is such a strong woman and that really shows with her determination to fight and regain her memories. Ethan was touch and go for a while but, I grew to like him and, more importantly, liked him for Asia. All of the drama and action revolving around this couple such as the kidnappers and alien abductions makes for a crazy ride, and I enjoyed every moment.
I would recommend this book, there is so much going on and various twists and turns the book takes that anyone will become addicted to the story.
First off, I’d like to give Kudos to this author for choosing a book cover that had characters that perfectly matched their written description. So many times I will be engrossed in a book and learn the girl character has long brown hair… just to close the book and see a blonde girl on the cover. Now I’ll commence my review.
Unchained Memory by Donna S. Frelick is the first book of the Interstellar Rescue Series. I read this novel as a challenge to myself, as it made me step way out of my comfort zone, because I have never read any book that truly contained science fiction elements. I’m thrilled to say that I am happy with the book I chose. I have no regrets in getting this book, nor was it hard for me to read it.
The book starts with Asia who has suffered a tremendous loss and can’t remember what she did for the three hours in the meantime. She starts seeing a therapist, Ethan, who is trying to help her either remember what happened during those hours or realize its insignificance and move on. During their sessions they start to develop deeper feelings for one another. Ultimately things get hard for them as they have people that start following them. As they run, they find out more and more of the truth.
This book had me on the edge of my seat until the very end. I adored the relationship between Asia and Ethan. As soon as I thought I knew what was going to happen next I would turn the page and be shocked to my core. I was so emotionally invested in this book, that after putting it down at night to sleep, my mind would run over all the scenarios. Donna is a brilliant author. Her character descriptions were immaculate and the story line just contained sooo much and it just flowed together effortlessly.
This is a great story with twists and turns and romance.
Asia is a loving hardworking mother to her 3 children until a evening out with her friend leaves her losing everything she loves. Add to that devastation the fact that somewhere on the journey home she loses 3 hrs with no recollection of where or what happened in that time.
Asia starts having “dreams” about working in a mine however they seem to be too real to be just a dream. So she starts a journey to find out what actually happened to her. With the help of her psychologist Ethan they both try to figure out what the truth is. Is Asia insane or is there really another world than the one we know.
Its a fantastic fantasy adventure which keeps you hooked from page one.
Unchained Memory: Interstellar Rescue Series Book 1 by Donna S. Frelick is a Sci Fi thriller that is a compelling mystery romance and a great start to the series. What would you do if you lost three hours? Three hours where you have no idea what happened or where you were. What happens when the dreams or is it reality? threatens to steal your sanity.
Asia Burdette wakes to find she has lost three hours of her life and when she arrives home she finds her life has been turned upside down with something that will haunt her for the rest of her life. But when she decides she needs help, what she stumbles upon is more than she ever thought was real and will change the way she sees the world.
Ethan is a psychiatrist and wants to help everybody but when he realises that there are a few that he has been unable to help he realises that they may all have the same thing in common.
Together they find something that is far bigger than themselves and shakes their beliefs and understanding of what is out there, and it is this that means that danger his hot on their heels.

Unchained Memory (Interstellar Rescue #1)

I am not usually a fan of Sci-Fi stories however I really enjoyed Unchained Memory, it didn’t take me long at all to get into the story and I was really impressed by the author’s world building and attention to detail. There were some great twists and turns in the story that definitely helped to keep my interest throughout the book. I loved Asia and Ethan! They had such a great connection, very genuine and believable. I liked that whilst there were some steamier scenes between the two the author made sure to not let them overpower the story and kept it as a sci-fi romance read. The host of secondary characters were a great addition to the story and really felt like they had their own roles, it was nice that they were included and they were integral to the storyline.
Overall a really enjoyable read and I am looking forward to reading more from the series!
Unchained Memory was a great 5 star read and book one in the Interstellar Rescue series.
I was pulled in right from the beginning. Asia is out with friends and on her way home she finds herself parked on the side of the road and she has lost three hours. She has no recollection of what may have caused it, in a panic she rushes home. When she gets close to home her whole world shatters with what she sees. She has lost everything and it’s her fault.
As she tries to put things back together again she goes down a spiral of drinking and insomnia. To try and get answers and help with the guilt, she decides to go see a psychiatrist. There is something about Ethan that awakens things in Asia, she starts to have feelings for him.
Things take a strange twist and get more interesting. Ethan finds a pattern between Asia and some of his other patients. Can he help her? There is so much more on the edge of your seat moments. I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to read more in this series.
Unchained Memory was a new experience for me as a reader, both with this author and this sort of sci-fi book being one I chose to pick up. I normally don’t choose sci-fiction laden novels without lots of high recommendations. This one however drew me in with some fantastic teasers on my feed. I had to see what was to come, and I am so excited to report that this was nothing short of fantastic.
It is hard to describe a lot of this novel’s story without giving away details that I feel would disappoint the reader if they were spoiled. The blurb provided really does a great job of summing things up and drawing you in, it doesn’t fall short of all the excitement you imagine whilst reading. I personally really enjoyed Asia’s character. Her emotions were strong and felt through the kindle screen as I read. I am even more excited that there will be more to come from this series, Interstellar Rescue Series. While I wait for that to release I will go visit some of Donna S. Frelick’s previously published works.
Unchained Memory is a different read by Donna S. Frelick. This is my first book by this author and it will not be my last. Frelick has written a story about lost time, abduction, aliens, and romance that should not be. The characters in the story are fully developed. I felt as if I was going through the story right there with Asia. Asia has found herself in a little predicament. She has lost time, have invisible forces clashing around her, and she has fallen for the wrong guy. The story has a good pace to the story that will keep you turning the pages. Will Asia figure out what has happened? Will Asia’s love stay with her? What exactly happened during her lost time period? This will be answered with a little more suspense when you read the book.
Unchained Memory is the first book in Donna S. Frelick’s Interstellar Rescue Series. It is a gripping story, following Asia as she unravels the mystery of the night she lost three hours, as well as her family and home.
Dr Ethan Roberts is dedicated to helping people who are relying on delusions of alien encounters to cope with trauma. When Asia comes to him with vivid dreams that tell of an extra-terrestrial life as a slave known as 1408, he begins to question whether she could really be delusional, leading him to reconsider some of his past patients.
Unchained Memory intermingles scenes from Asia’s dreams (or memories?) with her current life as she works through therapy to try and make sense of that night. The narrative in the present switches between Asia’s first-person perspective and a third-person over-the-shoulder perspective of Ethan. There were a few points where I found this confusing but mostly it was clear.
There’s plenty of suspense in both the past and present timelines – how will 1408 escape from her slavery? Will Ethan be able to help Asia? Who is the man in the white Impala and what does he want? Will Asia and Ethan be able to resist each other for the sake of their doctor-patient relationship?
For me, this is a five star book. It’s different, interesting and entertaining. I’d recommend it to fans of sci-fi and romance who are interested in alien abductions and love big, intertwining mysteries.
Unchained Memory: Interstellar Rescue Series Book 1 By Donna S. Frelick. From page one I knew I’d really like this book immediately I was drawn into the storyline. This isn’t necessarily my usual reading but I was pleasantly surprised by the story. The characters are complex and relatable, written well. The storyline is well paced and had me completely hooked. Each character brings something different and unique to the story. The author just has a way of drawing readers in and painting a picture with words. I’m excited to see where readers are taken next. Five stars and highly recommended!
