Following the deadly events of Afghanistan, Rex Dalton and his companion, the military dog, Digger, escape from Afghanistan and make their way into India. Rex knew that to stay alive he has to remain ‘dead’. Rex tries to put the past behind him and start a new life, no more secret missions, no more killing, no more violence. He and Digger are going to travel the world, visit historical places, … places, and learn about other cultures. Life becomes an extended holiday, they have nowhere to call home and they’re enjoying every moment of it.
Rex and Digger are on their way to Kapal Mochan, India, where Rex intends to dip his hand into a sacred spring, a symbolic act of cleansing the soul and in his case to finally put his violent past behind him. When they pass by a public park, Digger starts shifting around in the front passenger seat and looking at Rex as if to say, “So, when are you going to stop and give a dog a chance to go to the toilet?”
It is the ideal place to let Digger out and he pulls off the road. While Rex is unpacking their lunch, he becomes aware of the presence of a strange old man who seems to have appeared out of thin air. After a few moments of awkwardness, the two of them to start talking, and before long Rex and Digger have an invitation to dinner with the old man and his wife.
During dinner, Rex finds out that the couple’s youngest daughter has gone missing and decides to help them find her. A decision which puts him and Digger on a perilous journey.
As Rex follows the leads to the missing girl, the closer he gets the more dangerous it becomes. Between a man in prison, an unscrupulous money lender in Mumbai, an illicit arms dealer in Saudi Arabia, and their cronies the two of them get into more danger than they’ve ever been. It turns out that the daughter of his new-found friends is not the only one in need of help and it starts to look as if he is not going to be able to help anyone.
UNCHAINED is a full-length novel, a nail-biting thriller by best-selling author JC Ryan. It is the third book in the electrifying new Rex Dalton series.

I enjoy this author.
This was my first read with the character Rex Dalton and I enjoyed it very much. I also enjoyed his very well trained dog.
I am currently reading the 7th book in the Rex Dalton series. Definitely keeps my interest as Rex travels with Digger to help save so many and conquers the bad guys! The two are tough and always try to do the right thing. Love it!
EXCELLENT READ!
Great book
Who couldn’t love a book that has a super-intelligent dog as a side kick. Full of action and adventure
Rex and his dog,Digger, are fun to read about.
Kept me reading … a great story!
what an interesting story line in countries that I know so little about. learned a little of the different cultures along the way.
I enjoyed the dog. Found it unbelievable hero was such a killing machine.
I read it……skimmed a good part of it. The plot was not something I could relate to and didn’t really care. The only character with any depth was the dog. I have no desire to read any more in the series.
You cannot put any of these books down the characters are great page-turner action-packed all of the books are a must-read
This is the type of book I enjoy. No lead characters who can’t hear someone speaking to them because they are deep in thought about someone of the opposite (or same) sex; or angry lead female with little to no experience telling those with experience, training, etc., how to run a mission.
Good action yet not over the top; lots of strategy and a decent ending. Good stuff!
Only thing to make it a tiny bit better would have been a proofreader. Quite a few errors which I found distracting.
Considered going 4 stars due to typos yet the story was so good ~ call it 4.5.
This is one of several books by Ryan that will keep you up reading.
This is an easy to read book with few surprises. The “Dog” shows powers that I would question if it were possible but there may be a super trained dog that could pull it off. The “Man” is a little too James Bond to be believed but it is also possible for his feats to be believable if you are an optimist. I think the book was good enough that I would buy a sequel for the right price.
Must love dogs.
Enjoy Rex Dalton growing relationship with his side-kick, Digger, and their special communications. Refreshing to have a moral bound character, even though he has done violent things to bad people, try to take the high roads whenever possible. It’s not masterpiece literature, but is very entertaining and leaves you wanting to read their next adventure. The story line is primary, but there is also a sub plot pertaining to Rex personally, and it weaves through several books. Give the series a read.
Each one just keeps getting better. Rex and Digger! You can’t help but think of Digger as Rex’s human buddy. Great book, great series!
Reading this for the second time. Enjoyable the first time through enjoying it again the second time
Rex and Digger, only survivors of their team, ambushed in Afghanistan, escaped to India are making new friends and saving lives, destroying drug dealers and rescuing women.
I loved this book. Digger, a tree-climbing dog, loves children, charms women, steals food, and rips out the throat of any threat. And Rex is an avenging force for freedom and justice. Its fast pace is breathtaking, descriptions so realistic you feels the dryness and grit of the barren lands of Saudi Arabia, the warmth and hospitality of Indian culture.
