As a teenager, he channeled his defiance into running, discovering a prodigious talent that had carried him to the Berlin Olympics. But when World War II began, the athlete became … World War II began, the athlete became an airman, embarking on a journey that led to a doomed flight on a May afternoon in 1943. When his Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean, against all odds, Zamperini survived, adrift on a foundering life raft. Ahead of Zamperini lay thousands of miles of open ocean, leaping sharks, thirst and starvation, enemy aircraft, and, beyond, a trial even greater. Driven to the limits of endurance, Zamperini would answer desperation with ingenuity; suffering with hope, resolve, and humor; brutality with rebellion. His fate, whether triumph or tragedy, would be suspended on the fraying wire of his will.

An amazing true story of a man fighting for survival as a prisoner of Japan during WWII. It covers his early life as a problem child, stealing food and running, his service in the Army Air Corps, survival at sea, survival as a prisoner, and lastly as a world class runner.
Excellent.
The man this book is about was an amazing man – what an inspiration! To go through so much and still be able to face the day! A fantastic role model.
This book was one of my favorit reads. The charactures were well definded. The historical facts are eye opening.
So hard to read but I kept on reading it. My heart broke at almost every page. I don’t know how the soldiers made it. What a story!
This is the best book I have ever read. Magnificent!!!
It was difficult to read some parts of this book because the treatment of American POWs by the Japanese was so horrible. But, it shows the triumph of the human spirit.
Best book I have ever read
Great story of survival in extreme conditions, excellent writing.
If you have seen the movie you don’t know everything! This is a long book and when the characters are lost in the water it feels tedious. Duh, it WAS tedious! It is worth reading every page to get the full impact.
Too much violence. Great story about a great hero but too much about the violence in the POW camps. Couldn’t finish.
Wonderful insight to a true hero of WWII.
This is one of the best non-fiction books I’ve ever read. I have recommended it many times as a thrilling and inspirational read.
Amazing story of human courage and endurance.
wonderful book, most incredible story.
A wonderfully book
Unbroken starts out with Louis Zamperini as a child rebelling against his society. He acted out at every chance he got, because he thought he wasn’t good for anything. This made his neighborhood view him as a monster which only made him want to be one even more. Eventually his brother turns him around his sophomore year of high school. Louis turns …
Thought it would never end.
One of my favorite books. Amazing true to life story and the man led an incredible life after the agonizing experiences discussed in the book. Tears were shed over the indominable human spirit and the power of faith demonstrated in this story.
Great read, very encouraging
