What do you do when your soul mate marries your best friend? If you’re Kate Evans, you keep your friend Rachel, bond with her kids, and bury your feelings for her husband. Then on the first anniversary of Rachel’s death, Kate and Shane take comfort in each other in a night that they both soon regret.
Shane’s been angry for a year, and now he feels guilty too – for sleeping with his wife’s best friend and liking it . . . liking her. Kate’s ability to read him like a book may have once sent Shane running, but their lives are forever entwined and they are growing closer.
Now with Shane deployed for seven months, Kate is on her own and struggling with being a single parent. Shane is loving and supportive from thousands of miles away, but his homecoming brings a betrayal Kate never saw coming. Spanish & English Opinion
This book has unrequited love through and through. Katie at some point decides to send the hero to hell which I love. Shane is a jerk (actually an @$$hole) but he looks for forgiveness. More groveling would have been even better and Rachel was a terrible friend.
I love their families, the parents and the siblings are amazing and the kids are cute cute cute. I will definitely keep reading.

First Opinion:
This kids of books where I experience lots of emotions. Zero indifference toward the characters, the situations, the story.
Exactly this is how this book made me feel. Obviously, as a general thing, I feel the hero is a jerk! And he treats the girl soooo bad!
Also, the first wife was kinda bitchy… because if they way she treated her friend.
The kids were amazing and also, the parents and and siblings of the girl were great!
Get ready to have your heart ripped out and stomped on over and over again with this book. I promise you it is worth it in the end you will have read one of the most amazing books ever (at least in my opinion)
How can you hate a character so much? That is what you get with Shane Anderson. You want to hate this man so much but you still love him because you know underneath all that horribleness is a man who is so so very much in love with Kate. As for Kate you want to shake the hell out of her and ask her why she puts up with Shane the way she does but you know why. They are absolutely, and completely made for each other.
This book is an emotional roller-coaster that will wind you up, piss you off and then make you smile. The characters are all great and you want to get to to know them more. Which is why its so great that this is the first book in Nicole Jacquelyn’s Fostering Love series.
So if you can handle a whole lot of angst (it is so worth it I promise you) then this book is definitely for you. The other books in the series are good but NOTHING compares to Unbreak My Heart. It is just another one of those books that I will go back to over and over and over again.
What an emotional and angsty read. I devoured this story as I put my heart through the wringer. So worth the read.
Shane won’t be for everyone, but after spending years writing a guilt-ridden, grieving widower myself, I got him. Mostly. The heroine is written to perfection, IMO. Some might call her a doormat, but she’s the furthest thing from it. It takes an incredible amount of strength to love as hard and as selflessly as she does. And the writing is superb.
4.5 Stars!
I really enjoyed this book and loved the writing style. Although, I wouldn’t recommend this book to just anybody. The hero within the story was a very divisive character and some readers might not be able to look past his serious flaws that took a large portion of the book to work through. I tend to have a lot of grace in the real world and in my reading, so I was anticipating and hoping for his redemption. Also, I found that I understood and had empathy for what he had done to cause the initial rift between him and Kate when they were young. At the same time, there were a few things I felt weren’t explained well enough to understand all of who Shane was and his motivations, but the overall story worked for me. It was a compelling page turner with loads of angst and a satisfying ending.
Ugh! How to describe this story!
1st you’re sad and not knowing what to do with that sadness.
Then you get completely mad at the situation and want to harm the male in question!
Damn Shane!
Later you come to appreciate what Kate and Shane went through to get to their end.
Was it pretty? Hell No!
But it was Fun to read!
I definitely recommend this book!
I ADORED this book and it’s one that has stuck with me! A definite top favorite!
The minute Kate Evans met Shane Anderson she knew they were meant to be together forever, they became fast friends, and she was certain the next step in their relationship would be love, and eventually marriage, but he didn’t quite see things that way. She went from being the center of his attention to watching him marry her best friend, and it was beyond excruciating. It was one thing for him to cast her aside for someone else, but then to have him move on and act like she meant nothing to him and live the life they should be living together, with her best friend Rachel was all together devastating. She didn’t want to lose her friendship with Rachel so she buried her feelings for Shane, and tried to be a good friend, and carry on like he never meant anything to her, but no matter how hard she tried he always found a way into her thoughts. She knew she shouldn’t give him a second thought after his betrayal, and especially after the way he chose to completely ignore her existence, but she just couldn’t find it in herself to let him go. With he and Rachel’s ever growing family, and his deployments, Rachel was left alone to care for their children, and before long Kate found herself helping out and being a secondary parent to their kids. Her bond with their children meant the world to her, and being their for Rachel had become a constant in her life, but nothing could prepare her what would come next… Rachel’s unexpected death takes her from being a secondary parent figure to a mother figure the children so desperately need and also has her sharing a home with the man she has tried so hard to let go of…
Everything in Shane Anderson’s life gets turned upside down when he gets a frantic call from his wife’s best friend telling him that his wife is gone, that she lost her life in a car accident. The news of losing the love of his life is almost more than he bare, and the reality that he is now a single parent to four children is beginning to set in, and he can’t begin to fathom how is going to get through all of this on his own. That’s when he turns to his wife’s best friend for help, having her around is unsettling, and brings up feelings he thought he’d long since buried, but he knows that there is no one else that he can trust with the lives of his children. She steps right in and things start to fall into place, and it scares him because it all makes sense…too much sense, and it has him feelings things he knows he shouldn’t, things that will change everything!
From the moment I cracked this book a powerful feeling settled over me, and I immediately knew I was about to embark on something truly special, something that was about to consume me and leave me raw and emotionally exhausted…in the best possible way! And true to my thought it did, the instant these two beautiful souls waltzed on the page I was completely captivated by them, and fully invested in every facet of their lives, I couldn’t help but to be addicted to their story. I felt the intensity and passion behind every word, felt the sting of every disappointment, and struggled to keep the tears at bay the whole way through!! I have to say that this is BY FAR one of the best reads I have had the pleasure of settling down this year, and have wholeheartedly loved from start to finish!! Ms. Jacquelyn has written something truly remarkable here and I am certain that she will have no problem at all winning readers over with this one, it is one of those reads that will hit you deep down in your soul, and literally steal the breath from your lungs!!
Breathtakingly beautifully story that is sure to invade your soul and renew your faith in the power of true love!!
