I loved all the twists… series only continues to surprise… can’t wait for the next one! Highly recommend!
Ooooh Matt… you really had screwed up and I wasn’t quite ready to forgive you yet. I was ready to throw my kindle about 20% in because of Matt’s “grand gesture,” that let him off the hook for his behavior way too easily, and seriously irritated me. All his grand gesture did for me was reward him. He’d have ended up with it all; his business, practice, and Perla on the terms HE wanted. I was tired of Matt’s terms and what Matt wanted. I needed it to be Perla’s terms and what Perla wanted.
Yes, he pampers her and takes good care of her, but he wasn’t letting her fully be “her”. I was cheering (almost literally) when Perla switched it all up and shocked EVERYONE, (even me) by not signing her life away on the dotted line. Yes, I totally know Matt loves her and was sorry, but he deserved more than a week’s punishment for his lies. Plus I really loved when Perla let all the MEN in the novel know she wasn’t one to be messed with. It was about time! One of my favorite lines by Perla to Matt: “You have Pentagon, maybe you can find a way to f it much like you did me.” Oh yeah, he deserved that. I believe Matt did fall in love with her but he did originally set out to lie, manipulate and use Perla for corporate espionage, and the Pentagon group seems rife with this. This group of uber-macho, alpha men who seem to think they can do what they want to advance their business needed a dressing down to reality that Perla gave them. “They never had any intention for a woman to come in and start throwing her weight around in a company they’ve been building since they were teenagers…” This attitude was prevalent through all of Pentagon and I LOVED watched Perla in her confident, smart way smash through it while being totally a hot, desirable woman. I think Matt, but most of all Perla, needed to see herself in this way. So I’m so glad they didn’t get together as Matt first tried to force.
The way Perla went at them and not only took control of own life, and really asserted her self-respect, but she also took down a room full of men’s egos who needed it. I was cheering for and how she stood up to them AND got her demands out of them. It was well deserved on her part after what Pentagon had done to her, before she met Matt even.
I liked this book even more than the first one because it had a lot going on in it with all kinds of twists and turns that I didn’t see coming nor did I see where the ending cliffhanger was going. Well-done by this author in weaving it and making me HAVE to download the next book and read the first chapter so I could answer the question of WHO the woman was. Glad it’s already written I would have hated to wait. Can’t wait to finish off this twisting adventure of Matt and Perla’s.
