No. 1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover returns with a new heart-wrenching love story. When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she doesn’t think it’s love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they … they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.
Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.
They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.
Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

Oh my ever-loving Lord. This was hands down the most amazing romance book I have ever read. I don’t know if it is because I can relate to it on a personal level, but I could NOT stop crying towards the end. This is (dare I say it) a masterpiece in my eyes and I dont say that lightly. One of my favorites. I will be reading ALL of Colleen’s books!
This book breaks all kinds of rules; it’s got alternating POVs and tense. It has a few cringe-worthy moments, but they’re glorious as executed in a way only Hoover seems able to pull off.
A quick read, addictive, hard to put down. Completely predictable, every second of it and still manages to prompt real feels and be hard to put down so that’s pretty impressive.
4 stars.
So freacking beautiful.
Finished reading it while a massive headache tried to kill me, and it was so worth it.
Did I cry my eyes out? Yes, of course; it’s a Colleen Hoover book after all. She knows how to pull your heartstrings. And I love to let her do it.
Allow yourself to do the same.
I’m speechless. This book…no words… What a beautiful masterpiece. This is the story of Tate and Miles. But it’s so much more. Tate is a stubborn, strong and compassionate woman. Miles is a brooding, mysterious man who is scarred from his past. That past he won’t share with anyone. Tate and Miles have an attraction. Miles can’t love and Tate thinks she is okay with just having a hookup relationship with Miles. As time goes along both are developing feelings that they try to ignore. Miles more. This book will grip your heart. I had so many different emotions. I swooned for their connecting. I wanted to scream for them just to be together. Then I wanted Tate to tell Miles to get lost when he was hurting her by pushing her away and denying his feelings. But at the same time my heart was breaking for Miles as we slowly learn the heartache of his past and why love is so hard for him. This was a beautiful story of heartbreak, true love, healing, compassion and taking a chance when you are truly afraid. I guarantee anyone who reads this story will feel it consume them like it did me. This book gets all the stars there are!
This book.
This. BOOK.
I don’t even really know what to say. This book did a number on me. This is one is also in my Top 5 favorite books of all time, AND my favorite Colleen books.
Miles Archer. Ugh. I can’t even express how much I hurt alongside him. And Tate is one of my favorite heroines. I like that she’s strong and independent. And of course she falls for Miles because why wouldn’t she, even though he’s the most emotionally unavailable man on the PLANET for a damn good reason though..
Man oh man… Every time we get Miles’s POV in this book, it just tore my damn heart out.
Everyone needs to read this book. EVERYONE.
I have never read a book by Colleen Hoover that I didn’t give a 5 plus star rating. This book is no exception. I was lured into the world of Tate and Miles, and I didn’t want to leave. Six years ago Miles is a teenage boy who does everything right. His attitude is right, his grades are awesome, and he never gets into trouble. Fast forward to present day. Miles is a closed off person who doesn’t do relationships. Tate is the sister to one of Miles’ friends. She moves in with his brother and the sparks begin to fly. They agreed to have sex with no strings. Miles had 2 rules: Don’t ask about his past and don’t expect a future. Tate thought she could do this. Miles breaks her heart over and over and over again. If I didn’t know the background that Miles had, I would have been ready to punch him. My heart broke right along with Tate’s every time. This is an Ugly Love. It seems to be one sided. Poor, poor Tate. I want to yell at her to leave, but I understand why she didn’t. His past dominates him and in turn it is ruining Tate. There are dual point of views. However, Tate’s point of view is in present day, while Miles’ point of view is from 6 years ago. I am thankful for that point of view since it let me in on what Miles was thinking and why he acted like he did. Later in the book we get a present day point of view from Miles. I loved the secondary characters, especially Ian and Cap. No cliffhanger. Just a beautiful story of ugly love.
I am a huge fan of Colleen Hoover, but sadly this book just didn’t give me what I call the Hoover Wow. I liked this book, just didn’t love it.
Tate – not sure what I thought about her. She seemed like an intelligent women, going for her master’s degree, a great job as a nurse, good head on her shoulder, but damn, letting Miles use her for sex was just so out of the park. She wants love and Miles wants nothing to do with it.
Miles – a good looking pilot and has a demon from his past that he can’t seem to let go of. Miles hasn’t been with a “women” for six years, really, that is really out of the park. At least let him have a one night stand every now and then. He never smiles, laughs, just a moody guy.
The story line was pretty predictable, the writing was good, the story flowed well, but I guess I was just missing a “love connection” between these two. Miles really didn’t even show any real feelings for Tate until the last couple of chapters, but then I guess until he got rid of the demon from his past that was understandable. The vast majority of the book was about how great the sex was. I guess I just wanted more of a love story.
Glad they both got what they were looking for in the end!
GRAB THE TISSUES.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about CoHo books, it’s that you must go in blind. Don’t read the synopsis, just dive in. This book was a rollercoaster of emotions. It tore me down and ripped me apart piece by piece while, at the same time, putting me back together until I was (almost) when again. It destroyed me in the best possible way. 5+ for giving me ALL THE FEELS.
One of my absolute favorites from Colleen- Love it
Loved this book from beginning until end. It was a joy reading it. A sweet romance with hot scenes but I also had tears in my eyes with what Miles had to go through. I just really loved Miles and Tate! This one is absolutely worth the read, a must read! Really can’t wait to see the movie and watch this amazing book come to life, hope they can do it justice. Conclusion : another hit from Misses Hoover 🙂
This was an incredible read. A real heartbreaker. I didn’t expect it to be so good. It sucked me right in. I took me less than 24 hours to read. I really like the way it was written. It was unique and the emotion was real.
This story deserves a billion stars! I laughed, I cried, and then I cried some more. Anything by CoHo is a 10/10.
This is one of my favourite reads. I qwas late coming to it but I’m so glad i did. This book ate me up, chewed me up and spit me out, about twenty times. It features a heroine who I loved, a hero I loved even more and a love story I couldn’t help but root for. I will remember it for a long time.
At first, I was concerned about the title. I have been fortunate enough to never have experienced the ugly kind of love. I am so glad Colleen wrote about it though. Great book. Tissues are a must, but then which book of Colleen’s hasn’t made me cry.
Book rec #2!
Good novel, I am not a romantic person so i don’t like how author described every single detail of sex and making love. Otherwise, good characters great story with amazing love story. 🙂
This is my 2nd CoHo book
I am legit just finished crying. I haven’t read this book until now because I have been scared. I have heard such amazing things about this book (the book trailer definitely had some influence) and it took me a while to actually own the book (thank you Emery!) Freaking Miles Archer. I freaking love ‘that boy’. I will be honest, at about 35% I had guessed the ending, but I still loved it. It was my kind of book. I ugly cried just now. I am not joking.
Elizabeth “Tate” Collins met a totally wasted and semi-conscious Miles Archer on the doorway the day she moved in to her brother’s apartment. The scene itself should have been a turn-off for Tate, but as days passed, Miles suddenly became a constant, albeit hesitant shadow to Tate’s dark world.
Both were attracted to each other. Both couldn’t keep their hands off each other. Both didn’t want to fall in love. But they had come to an agreement if they want to continue seeing each other – to be together for one sole purpose – to satisfy their hunger for sex whenever they pleased.
It sounded like a plan for Miles, who really was afraid to commit. It started alright with Tate, until Miles laid down the rules. No asking about the past. No looking forward to the future.
I say, Fùckk the rules! These two are good for each other. If I had my way with Miles, I might not care about his past but I definitely want to start a future with him.
So Tate & Miles started an affair, right under her brother’s nose. Her brother who was her lover’s best friend. Until finally, Tate’s heart got broken into tiny little pieces, blaming herself for falling in love with a man who’s got no regard for his future. If only Tate knew what was it that had broken Miles and turned him into what he was…
Oh my…. During and after reading this book, I felt like my heart was going to implode, then burst and fly away because it can no longer take the pain and emotions surrounding it. Oh my.. I think my heart just became a puddle now.. A puddle of tears.
My heart cried out for Miles. He lost a great deal in the past. For six years, he suffered and shut the world out. He didn’t want to take the ground, was afraid that it would drown him. So he took his frustrations to the sky. He flew, he dived, he soared, until he could no longer feel. Until one day, an angel brought him down and put back his feet to the ground.
My heart also cried out for Tate. She didn’t want to fall in love. She wasn’t looking for it. But it came. It haunted her in her sleep. It made her crave. It made her dream. It made her smile. She became a glutton for punishment, a pushover for love. In the end, it made her cry and her heart died.
Reading Ugly Love made me realize that love is powerful, eternal, sublime. The things we take for granted need love. The things that make us happy sometimes turn ugly. We are like Miles and Tate. Afraid of commitment, afraid to love, afraid to fall apart.
Oh my. I think Colleen Hoover just turned me into a poet of sorts. I have always loved Colleen Hoover’s works. She’s a gem. A true talent. A genius. She’s a piece of work — a masterpiece. I’ve read almost all of her books (save for Confess) and everytime I finish reading her masterpiece, I end up feeling exhilarated, I break down and burst into tears. Happy tears. Colleen Hoover is an enigma!
“Whoever coined the phrase, I love you to death obviously never experienced the kind of love Tate and I share. If that were the case, the phrase would be I love you to life. Because that’s exactly what Tate did. She loved me back to life.”
I have experienced the pain and loss that’s in this book, and could relate to Miles’ need to hide inside of himself. Sometimes we just need to find our person to help coax us out of our shell. Highly recommend this heart wrenching romance!
Ugly love was just amazing!!! God I want to see this make theaters
