No. 1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover returns with a new heart-wrenching love story. When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she doesn’t think it’s love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they … they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.
Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.
They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.
Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

There’s an episode of FRIENDS where Joey and Rachel are reading each other’s favorite books. Joey says he puts The Shining in the freezer when it gets to scary, but when reading Little Women, he needs to put it in the freezer when it gets too sad. Basically, since watching that episode so many years ago, I’ve always made jokes about needing the freezer when I read a book that’s “too much.” I needed the freezer reading Ugly Love. This is not a bad thing, this is the sign of a book that truly gets to a person…in whatever way that gets to be “too much.”
The back and forth telling of the story was a little different and I like how it drew out Miles’ story so we didn’t just get a sum up of what he’d been through. We learn little by little of his tragedy and what made him the way that he is when he’s with Tate. It created more suspense, and intrigue and some very frustrating moments, but I respect how that part of the story was told. Tate doesn’t have the tragic past that Miles does, so we get to hear from her in the here and now.
One of my favorite characters is Cap…I love that the author has chosen to include this character who kind of acts like a sounding board for Tate, but turns out to be so much more. I love that Tate considers him her “best friend” regardless of age difference and different walks of life. Friendships like that are amazing.
It’s a Colleen Hoover book…expect all the feels, expect an emotional roller coaster, and expect to want to be able to start all over again without any knowledge of what you just read so that you can experience it all again for the first time. I simply LOVE this author.
Ugly Love was a great read. I love Colleen Hoover’s writing style and when it came to this book, it was no different. You will always feel what the characters are feeling; whether its a fleeting or permanent feeling, you will feel something. In this book we see Miles as young man and the impact his decisions as a young man had on him and continues to affect him as a grown man. He is a man who needs to learn to love again and realize that in order to have a future you don’t have to let go of the past, but you have to enjoy moments in the present that make the past less painful. I both love and hated Tate at times. I wanted her to stand up and say enough is enough and push Miles more, but when you agree so have sex with no commitment what do you expect. I’m glad everyone got their HEA and I enjoyed the epilogue at the end but I wished it was a little longer. I wouldn’t mind a novella as a follow-up to Tate, Mile and Sam’s story.
