Everybody gets to be supermodel gorgeous. What could be wrong with that?
Tally is about to turn sixteen, and she can’t wait. Not for her license — for turning pretty. In Tally’s world, your sixteenth birthday brings an operation that turns you from a repellent ugly into a stunningly attractive pretty and catapults you into a high-tech paradise where your only job is to have a really great time. … really great time. In just a few weeks Tally will be there.
But Tally’s new friend Shay isn’t sure she wants to be pretty. She’d rather risk life on the outside. When Shay runs away, Tally learns about a whole new side of the pretty world — and it isn’t very pretty. The authorities offer Tally the worst choice she can imagine: find her friend and turn her in, or never turn pretty at all. The choice Tally makes changes her world forever.

One of the earliest dystopians I remember reading and blowing my mind was Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. In this society, everyone gets a surgery on their 16th birthday to make them “conventionally attractive” — but it turns them into brainless robots. The story brings up a lot of questions about beauty and conformity and rebellion. I still love …
Interesting story. I like the message it sends about a fake, plastic, “pretty” world.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE UGLIES!!
When I read this book I really wanted to read the whole series and seeing how much technology is growing it is a possibility that it will happen. I love this book!
I liked this book a lot! The characters and plot combine to make a wonderful complex web of thoughts and ideas. Great book!
I loved this book for many reasons. One being that every time I turned the page I was just wondering what was going to happen next. The next page could be very different from the last!!
This book is very good the first time I read it in my classroom and it was amazing. Just give it a shot.
The Uglies series is an incredible journey. Following Tally on her exploits through Uglies, Pretties, Specials, and Extras you see a wide range of viewpoints about the dystopian Society Tally was born into. The descriptive imagery of the writing helps us to get a strong feel for the world and its characters. The science fiction ideas in this …
I thought it was a great book. It was very interesting and I couldn’t stop reading it, mostly because I wanted to know Tally’s choice.
I think that this book was amazing and I love how tally sacrificed herself in the end just to save everyone else to become pretty in the future after her including Shay but it just kills be what happens to her she has to say goodbye to David and hope that he will come back for her after all that she had done to him
Great series
This series tore me up! I never truly will get over the beautiful storyline. To all of my peers who love dystopian and tragic stories, I strongly recommend this to you!!
An easy read and original and I enjoyed it. Waiting for the next book in the series to read.
Great book!
First and foremost let me start by saying that I love the way Scott Westerfeld writes. It flows so well, that I just breeze through his books like its nothing. His world building is just amazing. Even though I probably wouldn’t want to live in this world, it seemed pretty cool.
Now for the actual story. This was a very unique storyline for a …
I absolutely LOVE dystopian novels and this by far is my favorite dystopian novel i have read! I enjoyed the fright of hearing about the “pretty surgery” and how the town is split between the uglies and pretties. I am usually a pretty slow reader, but i read this book in 4 days! I also never enjoyed reading until i was introduced to Westerfelds …
This book is so good. If you like the Red Queen you will LOVE this. So good and shows characters that are believable. My favorite book in this series is the Specials. Just a warning the last book is a little hard to get into.
I enjoyed this first book in the Uglies series. Tally grew a lot in this book. I wasn’t sure if I would like her at first but I love her! I need the next one now! I would recommend this book!
Honestly it’s been a while since I’ve read this book, and I don’t have it in my personal collection I would love it there! Anytime anyone brings up page turning books, I automatically think of this book. It has a wonderful plot to it, with a bunch of twists, which is my kind of story. I have only read it once 2 years ago, but I remember being in …
A creative and ingenuous world Scott Westerfeld brings readers into and a world that could very possibly happen in reality.
