SQUEEEEEE!!!! Katy Evans never fails to amaze with her books! Tycoon was exactly what I had hoped for it!
“…Aaric, the boy from my past who’s no longer just a boy, and no longer just in my past. He’s very much a man, very much in my present.”
Over the years of reading Katy’s books, I’ve realized is that you can never go wrong with her. Her writing style always hooks you in, no matter what the story and leaves you always wanting more at the end. Tycoon, even though is quite different in a lot of ways from her previous books, has everything — the steam, the passion, the wit and boatloads of angst!
Christos and Bryn are two wholes, that when put together create something new, something that is them. Christos is broody but there is a different kind of air to him when comparing to Remy or Malcolm. Coming across as untouchable to the general public, Aaric has a lightness to him that makes him more approachable and un-god- like. Bryn is the complete opposite of him. She is a dreamer, carefree and the perfect correspondent to Aaric.
The one thing that these two share are at the crossroads in life where they are at. Bryn is at a point in her life where Aaric was in his younger days and Aaric is at that point in his life where Bryn was when she was younger.
Like I have already said, there is boatloads of angst and believe me when I say there is more than enough to go around that and which will keep you on pins and needles and you won’t rest until you finally see them get their Happily Ever After.
“I start to kiss him back with all the passion I kept hidden for so many years. This man kissing me is the only man who makes me nervous. Makes me babble. Makes me afraid. Makes me excited. Makes me want. There are the kinds of things that you don’t choose— they just happen, sometimes with people you don’t want to react to as fiercely as you do. Christos has always been mine. My what if, and also my why him.”
Now onto the notable difference that sets Evan’s previous books and Tycoon from each other and that is immediately noticeable is that Aaric is not like Evans’ previous heroes and there are dialogues. Lots and lots of dialogues.
If you are an avid Katy Evans fan you know that Katy does fantastic monologues and that has always been a focus but this time our hero is not the silent type. He talks and he acts on his emotions and feelings. Evans’ heroes have always been the silent and broody type and have an energy that seeps through the pages when you read about them. You can actually feel the shift when she focuses on the male leads. Aaric is tad tamer but in the end, he is still an Evans Hero so he is bound to evoke some really strong emotions and make you swoon and hope that he was real *sigh* and makes you keep turning the pages and THAT is what I love about Katy’s writing.
4 Stars!
Christos is a man on a mission, no is just not in his vocabulary, “it goes to my bed. You and me in it. For as long as we want to.” Christos does not appreciate some of his woman’s clothing options, “he clenches his jaw, then leans forward. “Don’t wear it out again.” I loved this book, Bryn and Christos were right for each other, I loved them as a couple.
If I had to describe Katy Evans with only one word, that would definitely be “Unstoppable“. She never stops being on the roll and keep rocking the ground under my feet every time she releases one of her masterpieces. She makes every reader who is lucky enough to experience her writing to love and worship the worlds, characters, stories she masterly creates for the rest of time. And this time wasn’t any different.
Tycoon is her new magnificent standalone that tells the story of two old friends who meet again after almost 15 years. The story goes like this: Bryn Kelly is out to find an investor to found her project. Aaric Christos is a big real estate mogul who does exactly what she’s looking for. Fate brings her at his doorstep asking him to help her. But one meeting is enough to change everything and to awake old buried but never forgotten feelings. After that, the road is a downhill towards HAPPINESS.
First love is always a subject that touches the heart deeply. No matter how many stories about it you read, the heart is always vulnerable against it. And if the book that celebrates it is written by Katy Evans? Well, do I have to say more? The re-reads are guaranteed. The recovery is long forgotten. And the heart soars with every mention of the story and its lovers.
One of the things in Tycoon that drew me closer is how powerful Aaric’s feelings is for Bryn even after all these years. For me, when I read a story where the guy isn’t the one who needs to “see the light” and accepts his feelings for the girl is like watching a man with his baby; Instant swooning. I’m used to read and witness in real life stories where the girl is the one who is in love with the boy for a long long time and he needs a bit of a pushing to acknowledge his feelings. So, when I come across the exactly opposite, it’s a natural reaction to worship it more and label it as something extremelly unique and unforgettable.
Both Aaric and Bryn gifts whoever reads them with a unique experience of an absolute love which only was getting stronger and deeper as the years were passing by. The passion and intensity that characterizes their every encounter and the sizzling chemistry that flows between them are few of the reasons that makes them a perfect couple.
Normally, this book was an automatic 5 stars read just after reading the first page. But I put a 4.5 for a reason and I will reveal it immediately. Around the 60%, where the things have escalated betweens these soul mates, and for the next 20% give or take, I felt a slowing down of the pace and I lost a small amount of my giddiness and my excitement with which I had started. It was kind of a dulling down. But then again, maybe, now that I think about it, it was a trick of Katy’s to calm us down so when she would throw the bomb and the twist in the end, we would be caught off guard and experience a small heart-attack and jaw-drops incident.
I don’t know if you have noticed but every time Katy announces a new book, it becomes instantly “one of the most expected” releases. Do you think it’s an accident? No. No. No. Nothing about these books is an accident. Try them if you don’t believe me
Katy Evans, you have my heart. Dear lord, you are amazing at what you do. I have nearly read everything you have ever written, and I will not be stopping any time soon. You have a way with your words, and a way with your characters that ALWAYS leave me in a book hangover, and I mean a serious book hangover. Your books make me feel all of the feels, from sadness, to a serious case of heart strings being pulled in every which direction, to putting my heart back, piece by piece. And Tycoon is no different. I love love love second chance romances, and this one did not disappoint. Its dual POV, so you can see each the hero, and heroines perspective, and actually get into each of their minds.. Okay, okay, I know you want to hear more about the book, so here it is.
I am going to start with the cover. It is so simple, but so telling at the same time. Also, so yummy, that I want to lick the cover. This cover definitely represents what Aaric Christos is all about. Serious, but also intriguing. So since I am on the subject of Aaric Christos we will start with him.
Aaric Christos. A cold, workaholic ruthless tycoon, the dirty blonde, golden green eyed hottie who invests in people who have no other options, but has to earn their trust before agreeing to business deals, the guy who at one point, was first in a room, first who did dares, and the first who would offer help when you need it, but also the first to knock you down when you messed up. The big nosed guy, that was once known as a grease monkey. Aaric has known loss not only physically but mentally. And the one, that has been so deep in love once before that he has never stopped, even when it was bad timing. But the most important thing to know about Christos is he wants a marriage and babies, even if it is not with his soul mate, because being a father is important to him.
Bryn also known as “Lil’ Bit” has been grappling to find her footing after one too many life changing events, tragedy and loss, she is trying to find something to make her life mean something. Moving from Austin, to New York to try and make her dreams come true. She is living with her friend Sara, who once was a ballerina. Bryn is having no luck finding investors to start-up her dream, also known as House Of Sass; A high end clothing store. She becomes a dog walker to pay the bills, but she is not giving up. She will make her dream a reality no matter what. She doesn’t need nor want a relationship, but often wonders about the guy that was there for her through thick and thin in high school. Still to this day wondering, if he is the biggest what if she has ever made in her life.
” He is a little too bad, and I am a little bit too good, he was a demon in the making, and I am sorta still a daddy’s girl.”
When a mutual friend sets up a chance meeting with the ruthless tycoon, Lil’ bit realizes quickly, that she has to push aside her pride , and ask the one guy from her past that she has not seen in 10+ years to help her by investing in her start-up business or let her dreams go down the drain. In doing so, she is pushed to to think bigger and better in terms of a start up business. And is being vetted harder than any one else ever has, all the while, feeling stripped bare in front of the one guy that pushes far more than just start-up business buttons. But is the risk worth putting everything she has ever worked for on the line?
I loved this book, I can not wait to read Sara and Ian’s book. This book is a little different than Katy’s books. And there were a couple of unanswered questions that I have, that’s why I only gave 4 stars, but it was still a great read.
I read at least one book a day and quickly realize I loose interest half way through or forget books because it doesn’t hold my attention, and it’s not worth remembering. But never with a Katie Evans book. Her books speak to my soul. Even though they are fiction they seem like real life. I recommend this book to anyone who has ever had an ever lasting love, and people who believe in second chances.
Wow………just wow! This book had me hooked from the beginning that I devoured every page not realizing I completed it in a day. Katy’s words are perfection but would you expect anything less from such an amazing author. Aarick and Bryn will pull you in with their heartbreakingly beautiful story and show you that love is worth a second chance. Just a warning, the extreme chemistry and heat between these two characters is sexy as sin and off the charts hot as hell! Hands down a must read and now looking forward to the next book!
OMFG!!! I finished this book at 2am because I just couldn’t stop reading! My heart was racing and soaring at the same time. Katy Evans you’ve done it again! You’ve taken me on a ride that had a bit of everything I absolutely love…Missed opportunities, love lost and found, angst and last but not least a really well written story that had me feeling a part of from the very beginning. I felt every emotion you were writing as I read this. I can’t wait to read Sarah and Ian’s story. I only hope we will see more of Aaric and Bryn as well! I give this story 5 wine glasses!!!! Cheers!
It’s a nice story, but there was no chemistry. The female narrator ‘read’ the book without much feeling.
TYCOON was another start to what I’m sure will be another hit series for Ms. Evans. I loved the chemistry between Bryn and Aaric and loved her even more for never giving up on what she wanted. Determined to get start up capital for her business, she reaches out to an old friend, Aaric Christos. TYCOON has good characters and a good story, I just wanted more from the ending.
This is the first book in the Manhattan Series. Katy Evans is one of my favorite authors. Her writing is amazing. This is a second chance love story. I love the two main characters, Aaric and Bryn. They share a hot chemistry and so much love. I really loved this story. It’s romantic, steamy, heartbreaking and heartwarming afterward. I love the ending. The narration was great and easy to listen. Elizabeth Louise has a high pitch voice, but somehow, she fits the character. Sebastian York’s voice has been yummy, as always. I enjoyed my listening and I totally recommend this audiobook.
You know 5 stars seems so low for this book it really does need so many more. Once you open a Katy Evans book you just fall into that world and don’t come back out for week’s, even though you have finished the book within hours. Because once you start you don’t stop til you finish it. I’ve said it before that I’ve run out of words to describe Katy’s book’s she is a genius in this book world and I love her words!!! This book is no different. Aaric and Bryn are absolutely perfect and you will fall in love with both of them. You will laugh, you will cry, you will get upset, and you will get so hot you will need a shower! But you will not put this book down for anything. The dual pov’s is on point, the backstory is on point. The descriptions that Bryn go through is so on that you feel it in your soul, like it’s you going through it. I love when an author makes you feel so much and Katy is definitely one of them. I definitely recommend this book. Shew I recommend every book Katy has ever written. She is one of my unicorn authors!!! But in all seriousness this book goes on the list of best of 2017!!!!
In High School, both Aaric Christos and Bryn Kelly had an intense infatuation with each other, but neither of them acted on it. Both had preconceived notions of not being good enough for the other. Bryn’s insecurities steamed from her fear that he’ll end up hurting her and Aaric fearing he is simple not good enough for her. But one day, Aaric attempted to kiss her, but Bryn turned him down. Thankfully that did not ruin their friendship, but instead only carved a huge “what if” in both of their souls.
Now, 12 years later, Aaric has gone off to New York City and has made a name for himself. “…it’s like the sun left with him.” –Bryn. After several tragedies in her life, Bryn has found herself almost 30 years old living a life that she has nothing to show for. “One tragedy after another. I’ve been grappling to find my footing ever since. I’ve been sad, trying to figure out how and what could fill the hole and give my life meaning.” –Bryn. She has finally found her true passion and is desperate to startup the company that she’s dreamed up, but the only problem is, no bank will invest in it or her. So now she finds herself seeking out the one person who left her behind. The one person who has always held a part of her heart and who has been the biggest “what if” of her life. Bryn is putting everything on the line for this one possibility. She doubts he will even recognize her, but she has no other choice, he is her last option.
Aaric Christos, is Manhattan’s most merciless real estate tycoon and is at the top of his game. But no matter how high he gets, he can never forget about his “little bit”, Bryn. Even though he only knew her for a couple years before he moved away, she had imprinted herself in his being. Bryn Kelly is one of the reason’s he left Austin and pushed so hard to become what he is now, she is also one of his biggest regrets. He always planned to seek her out, but after some hard times on his way to the top, he’s found himself settling for what he has in life, relationship wise. Plus, there’s no way Bryn is still waiting for him after all these years. But now she’s shown up to his company, begging him to back her startup and help her company launch. He finds himself impressed with her business idea and with the woman she’s become. But mostly, he finds himself unable to resist her, much like how it was all those years ago. “I have everything I need, and more—more money than I could spend in a hundred lifetimes. And I still don’t have the one thing I’ve wanted most in my life.” –Aaric.
“My walls are down, my fears are gone, my reservations gone.” –Bryn.
The lust, desire and want that lingered under the surface all those years ago, resurface and is at risk of boiling over. But is it smart for them to mix business and pleasure? If they are to form a business partnership together, would they be able to remove their personal relationship from the equation if things go south? And is Bryn willing to put her heart on the line, with the risk of getting hurt? Can they have a second chance at this love?
Katy Evans never fails to write a beautiful love story! This book was about living life without regrets. Second chances. Giving into temptations. Trusting in the possibility of soul mates. It was about overcoming loss and pain. And most importantly, it was about finding your one and only. “It’s always been you.” –Aaric. I loved how Katy told their story in past and present throughout the novel. We readers were able to get a more concrete back story with the “past” chapters and that helped create a connection with them and showed us that life is all about timing and their past wasn’t their right time, but now could be. Bryn and Aaric’s story was fun and witty, but yet emotional.
I can’t give this 5 stars because I feel like their story is slightly unresolved and needed more closure. I have more questions that need to be answered. And YES, there will be a second book, but that’ll be Sara (Bryn’s roommate/friend) and Ian’s (new character introduced in TYCOON) story. I’m guessing we’ll get tidbits of Bryn and Aaric, so I’m hoping for more closure there. Or maybe Katy will write a novella for them? *wink*. All in all, it was an enjoyable easy read that had me swooning several times and took me down memory lane. The writing was exceptional as always. I absolutely adored meeting this new couple from Katy! I can’t wait to read Sara and Ian’s book next!
4 “little bit” stars
