Lucy is a human-lie detector. Her rescue dog Paco is a ghost whisperer. Together, they solve crime in this laugh-out-loud cozy mystery series.
Lucy McGuffin’s life has never been sweeter. Her muffin business is booming, she’s dating the town’s new hot-shot cop, and she and her best friend Will are getting along better than ever. There’s just one blip. Lucy promised the local ghost society that … society that they could use her little rescue dog Paco as a medium at one of their seances. The last thing she wants is for anyone to realize the extent of Paco’s psychic abilities, so she stonewalls by insisting that Paco’s safety can only be assured by the presence of nationally acclaimed canine expert Woofio.
When Woofio is brought on board, Lucy has no choice but to keep her promise and agree to the seance. Everything seems to go smoothly until a spirit warns them that Paco must be returned to his original owner or “else.” Lucy doesn’t know much about Paco’s history, but she isn’t giving up her beloved pooch to anyone, no matter what some rogue ghost threatens. When Paco’s original owner is found murdered, Lucy becomes a person of interest. And if that isn’t bad enough, Woofio wants to exploit Paco to boost the ratings on his flailing TV show.
Lucy isn’t about to take the rap on a murder charge, or worse, let some dog whisperer wannabe get his paws on Paco. Which means she not only has to ferret out the real killer, she must find a way to save Paco from the yoke of a rhinestone collar and pursuit by the pup-arazzi. All without stepping on her new boyfriend’s toes. How did her sweet life go so sour?

Lucy is dating the police chief. He knows that she has a knack for finding bodies. Although it’s really her dog, Paco, who has the knack. Lucy and Paco have been together 3 months since his previous owner died. Paco had been a stray so Lucy is now his third owner. Paco has special talents and the local ghost hunter group wants him to help in a seance. We find out in the seance that Paco’s first owner must be found or something really bad would happen to the dog. While Lucy tries to find Paco’s first owner, a number of things are happening. This is a fun cozy mystery that is well written and has some twists and turns in the story. I’ve enjoyed every book I’ve ready by Maria Geraci and I recommend this one.
Geraci continues to spotlight her wicked sense of humor, but this time around it has a darker edge. Two Seances and a Funeral brings on the ironies of life with an otherworldly, undertone. Lucy is caught in the middle of a haunting mystery that could put her in the hot seat for life. Can she save herself by discovering the answers before her time runs out? Whispering Bay may have lost a hint of it’s sparkle, but Geraci continues to delight with her imaginative and unique storytelling.
This is such a cute series. I love the characters, all of the action and the mysteries. I’m always happy to get back to this world and see what happens next.
I really enjoyed this new book in the Whispering Bay Mystery series. It was full of mystery, a few interesting seances, a dead body, and romance. It is always fun to see what Lucy gets herself into with her dog, Paco. This book was especially interesting because of the mystery surrounding Paco’s true owner and the message learned through the seance. I liked that the story had some twists to it and was not easy to predict how the book would end. It was quite a story! I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Really loved this addition to the series! Honestly, this book had it all including humor, cute moments, and a good story-line. Highly recommend this book as a way to escape reality for a bit and immerse yourself in a fun story! I totally love these characters too!
Another zany adventure for human lie detector, Lucy McGuffin and her dog Paco, from the mind of author Maria Geraci. Geraci’s books are always a humorous, fun adventures and in these times of “sheltering at home” because of the Coronavirus, this book provides a nice escape from the world around us. Endearing characters, snappy banter and a twisted plot make this a entertaining read.
Lucy has known since she was a little girl that she could tell when someone was lying- except for her brother’s best friend, Will Cunningham. She had thought that she was in love with him, but recently realized, not so much, at which point she suddenly was able to tell when he was lying, (not that he did it often). Now that she has a new boyfriend, police chief, Travis Fontaine, not only can’t she tell when he is lying to her, but she is not capable of fibbing to him, which makes for some interesting encounters. Lucy finally agrees to her promise made in the previous book, to allow Paco to participate in a seance by the Sunshine Ghost Society, but when the recently deceased, warns that Paco may be in danger and Lucy might lose him, it leads to another murder to solve.
I read an ARC as part of the authors “review crew”. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
I love Paco just as he is with Lucy but it seems everyone else has different plans for him In Two Seances and a Funeral by Maria Geraci, he is the focus of so many, for so many reasons. With Lucy’s life falling into place, it is such a shame that so much is disrupted by dog-napping and murder. This is a cozy mystery but I do hope Lucy will have a little romance and finally get her dress-up date with her “hot-shot cop” sometime in the future.
The writing is wonderfully done. I love the humor in the story as well as Lucy inability to not to dive into the murder investigations. She is so rightly named because she often has some explaining to do. The story has an edge to it this time but it is not too dark. Lucy and Paco’s ability to communicate keeps it light, along with the revealing of his past at the end. Paco you are still the man, I mean, the dog!
The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Love this series, each story reinforces that this is so much more than a mystery. The community is full of love and support. Lucy & Paco seem to be the glue to holding the police department together. In addition to the romance and new relationship(s) on the scene, humor and other emotionally engaging things, it’s just a well-rounded story. Pleasantly pleased with this addition to the series which was such a joy to read. Can’t wait to see what’s next for Whispering Bay. I was provided a free copy without obligation and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Score another win for Whispering Bay Mysteries and Maria Geraci! This book is fantastic. I absolutely adore Lucy and Paco, along with the quirky and lovable characters in Whispering Bay. Lucy and Paco have some unique gifts that land them in the most unique of situations. This time the local Sunshine Ghost Society invites Lucy and her Chihuahua Paco to a seance. After all, Paco has a penchant for stumbling onto dead bodies. Whatever their intentions, the unforeseen result is a race to locate Paco’s original owner and Lucy’s defiant refusal to allow TVs renowned dog whisperer, Woofio, to take Paco to the TV set to star in a special episode. Always at her side are Lucy’s friends Will, Brittany, and Travis.
This story is well crafted and will keep you reading page after page, following along as Lucy untangles another web. These characters continue to entertain. The author has a wonderful style that makes these stories fun and entertaining. I can’t wait for the next one already!
Welcome back to Whispering Bay where the adventures of Lucy McGuffin and her trusted psychic dog Paco are going strong. Paco was promised for a seance and Lucy is trying to figure a way to get out of it. Let the craziness begin. We have Woofio, who wants Paco on his dog show, a medium who says Paco must be returned to his original owner, and his owner is now dead. Hottie chief of police Travis knows his girlfriend can never stay out of the investigation. He still does not believe her about being a human lie detector and Paco a psychic. With all the twists and turns, Lucy gets her man.
Two Seances and a Funeral continues the Whispering Bay Mystery series. We meet up with the characters we’ve met before but Lucy and her ghost-whisperer dog are front and center as always. For a small town there’s always a murder to be solved and Lucy always seems to be there to help the local police do so even if they wish she didn’t involve herself. It’s nice to be back with the quirky characters, the delicious sounding muffins, the family and friends, the small businesses and even the Sunshine Ghost Society.
The story was a quick read and kept my interest from the first. There were twists and turns to the story and the who-dunnit had a few surprises. There was nice closure but I hope we return to Whispering Bay over and over again. I loved the cover of the book.
Ms. Geraci has fast become one of my go-to authors whether it’s a cozy mystery or a contemporary romance. I look forward to reading more of her books.
Maria Geraci has done it again. I love her Whispering Bay series. Her characters, especially Lucy who seems to always find trouble, and her faithful dog Paco have such adventures and this book is no exception. Paco’s job this time is to help with seances. Trouble follows, Lucy gets sucked into it, and Travis, the chief of police boyfriend once again is frustrated. A fun series which is both rom com and mystery. Ms. Geraci’s plot are always well thought out, her prose reads beautifully and I can’t wait for the next adventure.
We are back with Lucy and Paco. In this book I knew who the killer was before anyone turned up dead. It was still fun to watch Lucy squirm trying to get Paco out of a seance. I am hoping that Lucy and her boyfriend can finally go on a date and see eye to eye. Paco is such a smart dog and seeing him help Lucy is always fun. The information at the end of this book will be interesting to see where the author goes with it. These books are always fun, funny, and mysterious reads.
