Having survived the failed raid on the enemy lands, Tekeni had no illusions. He was nothing but an enemy cub, adopted into one of the clans, but not accepted, never for real. To fit in was difficult, to run away – impossible. To get into trouble, more often than not, was the only available option. They did not expect anything else from him, anyway. However, when a meaningless row during a ballgame … a ballgame grew out of proportion, resulting in a fight, Tekeni has found himself in a truly grave trouble. Neither he nor anyone else could have foreseen the chain of events the consequences of this fight would release, when the highly esteemed but controversial Two Rivers decided to help Tekeni out.
Two Rivers was a strange person with unacceptable notions and ideas. He maintained that to war on and on was a mistake of disastrous consequences. He went as far as suggesting a negotiation of peace with some of the neighboring nations. Even Tekeni, the despised enemy, thought such ideas to be far-fetched and wild. And yet…
With their trouble mounting and the revengefulness of some people around them growing, both Tekeni and Two Rivers find themselves pushed beyond limits.

This is pretty much indian history before the Colonists arrived, and very interesting indian customs that are pretty much true, tragic but room for hope for the characters.
I truly like characters that have character. Two Rivers is not afraid to give totally for his tribe. I admire that in any person. Very uplifting in this present time to read about true commitment and sacrifice for the good of all. Bravo!!!
Plot seems to set the stage for the eventual forming of the Iroquois nation from the separate bands depicted which likely did involve some forward-thinking individuals as the main characters in the book. I enjoyed reading this story.
A one of kind book. I highly recommend this book. It is historical fiction based on fact of how 12th century native americans lived and came to be peaceful.
I was sorry to reach the end, It was so realistic, I felt involved with real people. I hated to let them go.
ok read, glad i read it
great historical fiction with inspired characters
hWhile it is an easy book to read, it gives you a background of various Iindian tribes, their customs, and lifestyles. I found it informative, romantic, entertaining, and definitely worth following the series.
Really Good Book
Interesting historical background on the Indian tribes of the east.
Interesting to imagine that the characters will create an Iroquois federation similar to that described in the US Constitution.
Can’t wait to read the next in the series
I enjoyed reading Two Rivers and how his way of life affected the man he was to become. The author gave me enough information for my imagination to fill in the scenery, clothes, hardships etc.
Very good book. will read the next book soon.
I really enjoyed this book
Interesting story of the people of the general area of where I grew up.
