I have enjoyed reading books by Colleen Coble for many years. The Pelican Harbor Series is just as good as any of her previous series so her talent for action and mystery are on full display. In Two Reasons to Run, the second book in the series, Chief Jane Hardy is back and determined to keep her town and the Gulf Coast safe. Someone wants to take down an oil rig, and Jane is determined to stop them, but at what cost? And why is it being targeted? As usual, Mrs. Coble does an excellent job of drawing the reader in, not just to the mystery, but into the lives of her characters as well. Will Jane’s personal trauma keep her from letting others help or will she learn to trust God and the people He is placing in her life as she faces this formidable enemy? Order your copy today and join Chief Hardy on her next big case.

This story held my attention from beginning to end, and I loved being back with the damaged family. Yes, this is the second book in this series, but the author does a great job bringing you up to date. You could have heard me gasp when I saw there is a third book coming.
I guess the theme here could be revenge, and I saw it in several angles as I read, but the main one has, no regard for human life, just his agenda.
Secrets, Jane Hardy’s life has been full of them, and we get to see her forge a relationship with her newly found 15 year old son, he is such a great kid, and now someone has threatened his life.
Can Reid and Jane come together to protect their son? Keep reading, love how this kid acts when there is danger!
This is a read that will keep you up late reading!
I received this book through Edelweiss and the Publisher Thomas Nelson, and was not required to give a positive review.
While this could be read as a stand alone, you will get a better understanding into the dynamics of the characters if you read the first novel, One Little Lie.
This is a gripping suspense novel about a possible terrorist threat to an oil platform located in Pelican Harbour, Alabama. Police chief, Jane Hardy has to solve this mystery and try to protect her newly found family. Even though this is billed as a Christian romantic suspense, the religious aspect is quite low key. Interesting characters, suspenseful plot and action, chaste but credible romance. Looking forward to part 3.
I received a review copy from Netgalley. This is my unbiased opinion.
I thought the first book in this series was excellent and then I read this one! It has a lot of action and danger, plus the human element continuing on from the first book. If you haven’t read the first book, you can probably piece together what is happening with the characters but you’ll enjoy the first book so I would encourage you to read it if you can! Some people didn’t like the brusqueness (at times) of Jane, the main character, but I saw it as the result of how she grew up – living in a cult, escaping, then being raised by a single, law-enforcement father who wasn’t there for her emotionally much. How else was she going to become as a woman? She didn’t have any role models!!! She’d been lied to most of her life! She’s a great police chief though and tries to handle the small town she lives in although some people are constantly fighting her. In this story, Jane, continues to deal with hew new-found son (the joy of her life) and his father, Reid (conflicting feelings there) and the huge threat of a possible blowing up an an oil rig in Mobile Bay. Racing against the clock, she and Reid and her officers, try to track down the culprits. When her son is threatened, the fear escalates. There is a lot of action for both Jane & Reid. Jane’s father is involved too. I loved the book and can’t wait to see how everything ends up in the 3rd book!
The long-awaited continuation of Chief Jane Hardy that was well worth the wait. I love how the book begins with mystery and suspense and jumps right in where things left off. Jane is trying to build her new life that includes her son Will and finding her new place as a mom of a teenage boy. Will and Reid are a package deal, so she must also work through her hurt, lost trust and growing attraction to Reid. I love that despite the terror that looms, they all stick together as a family and handle the crisis together. It is a beautiful picture of stress drawing people closer together rather than pushing them away. Of course, there is plentiful mystery, suspense and thrills along the way; one could expect no less from Colleen Coble. The excitement picks up immediately and stays strong all the way through. I highly recommend this continuation of the Pelican Harbor series.

I couldn’t wait to read this second book and Colleen Coble did not disappoint! With high octane suspense and characters worth meeting, this book was over well before I was ready to be done. In the last book, Jane discovered her son was alive and she could start building a relationship with him. Of course, that means putting up with his father Reid but she can be polite if it means time with her son. Lies have torn apart everything Jane thought she knew, and there are more surprises to come for her. But for now things have calmed down and Jane can get her new officers in place and then take some time off to get to know her son Will better. Of course, the best laid plans rarely happen, and this is no different. A worker on the oil platform Zeus has gone missing amidst concerning allegations of possible terrorism. When his body is discovered, the time off must wait. Reid was contacted by the murdered man just a few weeks earlier, requesting his help to uncover a hidden plot to destroy the oil platform. Using his job as a documentarian, Reid accesses the platform and starts filming, hoping to uncover the plot and the people involved. Destroying the oil platform will destroy the bay and the ecosystems it suports. The consequences will be devastating and long lasting. Suddenly, Will’s life is being threatened and the pressure to solve this case quickly is increased. Bodies are starting to pile up and the danger mounts with each attempt on Will’s life. Jane has to find the man behind the plot and stop it.
The relationship between Reid and Jane is further developed in this book and makes them even more relatable. They have to learn how to trust and step out in faith to learn how much they matter and are loved. They each also have to learn how to work through how their individual lives need to adjust to this new family they are forming. All of this while trying to stay one step ahead of men with murder in their hearts and revenge the final goal at any expense. Colleen Coble delivers a suspense that will have the reader guessing what will happen until the last page. Danger lurks around every corner and tough decisions will have to made before the end comes. If you want a book that delivers on action, suspense, and characters worth cheering for then don’t miss this adrenaline inducing read! I received a complimentary copy of this book. This is another great book from Colleen Coble. I felt that is was a bit more confusing than some of her other books. It seemed like there were a lot of sub plots. But it all makes sense in the end. When the author visits another plot, she refreshes your memory of what it’s all about. The characters are strong and believable. The romance is only hinted at and the language is clean. I like the way this author ends her novels by taking the time to explain how she comes to her conclusions. You don’t feel that there is an abrupt end. This book does have a decent ending, but at the end it says it’s to be concluded in “Three Buried Secrets”. So it will be interesting to see what comes next.

This is the continuation of Police Chief Jane Hardy and documentarian Reid Bechtol. They have to work together to figure out who is behind the threat to an oil rig in the bay. As they get closer to the answer, their son Will is threatened. They will do anything to keep him safe. While keeping him safe, Reid and Jane and to put their feelings aside and work together.
This isn’t an edge of your set suspense book. But it is still a good mystery. This is the second book in the series. I would recommend you read the first book One Little Lie before reading this one.
I was given this book by Thomas Nelson Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
Two Reasons to Run by Colleen Coble is book two in the Pelican Harbor Novels. Book 1 left off with so many questions remaining and readers will absolutely adore book 2 and seeing familiar characters figure out the issues that began in book 1. And the suspenseful scenario in book 2 will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the book. I loved this book and can’t wait for book 3!
This book picks up a few months after the previous one.
It’s a fast paced book and kept me on the edge of my seat.
I enjoyed the story and look forward to the next one in the series.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the early copy
In this eagerly awaited second book in the series, readers will continue to discover more about Jane Hardy. This series by Mrs. Coble is easily one of my favorites. Now, I am anxiously awaiting the third book in this series. The suspense continues in this book just as the first book as readers see there is something occurring in Jane Hardy’s town. With murder suspected aboard an oil platform, there are major implications that something huge is going to occur. As Jane works to discover what is going on, she also is working on building a relationship with her son, Will. Reid, Will’s father, is interested in pursuing a relationship with her, but Jane is still upset due to their past circumstances. When the enemy threatens those Jane loves, Jane will stop at nothing to protect and discover who is behind everything that is occurring. Readers, be prepared to not stop reading until you finish this one! The book has several surprises and readers will get glimpses into additional information regarding both Reid and Jane’s families. I highly recommend this book! You will not be disappointed!
***I was given a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher for an honest review. This is my honest opinion. Even though I received this copy free, I have purchased her books before.
Didn’t quite deliver:
I have read most of this author’s books but unfortunately am not finding this series as captivating or fulfilling as I have come to expect. For some reason it didn’t grab my attention and whilst I wanted to find out what was going to happen, I didn’t feel the suspense was strong enough.
It carries on from book 1 and I would recommend reading them within a fairly short amount of time from one another in order to recall everything that has previously transpired. Ideally I would have liked the author to have given more of a recap early on to aid our memories.
Jane has recently discovered that she has a 15 year old son and while she is enjoying getting to know him, she is furious with his father for not revealing their identities sooner. With a missing oil rig worker and potential sabotage threat, Jane and Reid end up having to work together in order to stop the perpetrators in time. I was disappointed that I didn’t feel a closer connection to either of the main characters. I found Jane’s refusal to forgive and move beyond the fact that Reid had withheld information tedious and frustrating. Their is a light Christian message of learning to put our trust in God.
This ends with a happy for now and personally I wish that it had of concluded with this one, however as I want to find out what happens I shall be looking out for the final book in the series.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.
“Two Reasons to Run” by Colleen Coble is a great read! This is the second book in the Pelican Harbor series. This story continues with the story of Jane, Reid and their son Will as the main characters.
Like the first book in the series, this book has non-stop action and suspense. There is a possible terrorist attack and a kidnapping in it. I was hooked from the first page and throughout the whole book. I was totally shocked at the ending. I never expected that at all!
I definitely recommend this series to anyone that enjoys good, clean, romantic suspense novels. Colleen Coble is one of my favorite authors, and I have loved all of her books!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson Publishers through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I love this series and the characters and the location. Murder, threats made on Jane and Reid’s son, secrets from the past, a reunion and the best of all; Parker the dog. The book really kept me interested and has the right amount of mystery and suspense along with family drama and relationships.
Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for the ARC
‘Pray? Would God even listen to her? She wanted to spring into action, to be the warrior she’d always been.’
Colleen Coble does a mighty fine job with the second book in her Pelican Harbor series. Police Chief Jane Hardy, only recently reunited with a son she thought dead, and his father, and still reeling from a huge scandal that shook her small town police department once again is battling a murder. The murder exposes an environmental terrorist’s plot to flood the bay with crude oil. Jane must put her life on hold, including her feelings for her son’s father, while she deals with this. Then their son is threatened and all stops must be pulled out to save his life before the sabotage.
Coble is quite good at suspenseful series. Her Rock Harbor series is my all time favorite and I was definitely glad to see her back with a super series. Well written with a credible plot and good characters, this one is on top of the game! Recommended.

Two Reasons to Run, the second installment of the Pelican Harbor series set on the Alabama gulf coast, is another action-packed page turner from Colleen Coble! As in One Little Lie, the first book in the series, lies and revenge spawn murder and mayhem for the folks in Pelican Harbor. Ms. Coble’s attention to detail and expert storytelling skills combine to make a suspenseful plot with multiple twists and turns and “aha” moments. The characters are believable and well-developed. Since many of them are carried over from the first book, it would probably be a good idea to read the books in order, but enough background information is given to make this book also work as a stand-alone. I especially appreciate the way in which the faith element is seamlessly woven into the plot. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the third book in the series which will hopefully tie up all the “loose ends”!
I received a copy of this book in e-book form from the publisher via netgalley but am under no obligation to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
This is a captivating mystery. As the relationship between Jane and Reid moves forward, so does a threat against a local oil rig and their Gulf shoreline. There were plenty of twists and turns, suspense, and drama. Although this mystery can stand alone, reading the first book in the trilogy first would give a better understanding of the back story on Jane and Reid. Excellent read – I highly recommend it!
