Rae and Nick have known each other their whole lives; and she has loved him almost as long. When he leaves her to attend college, their friendship is tested through many hard times and hurts. They have been there for each other when they needed a friend, but they both want more, even if they aren’t willing to be the first to step out in that direction. When Nick returns after many years away and much life lived, they reconnect and re-evaluate who they are to each other.
What I loved most about this book was how strong and resilient Rae was. Being a southern woman, she is expected to be soft and strong at the same time. She shows these characteristics throughout the book. She has had to deal with a lot in a past relationship, and her status as a single mother has her making life choices she may not have had to make if life took a different turn.
There are some tense moments in the book and an interesting twist which I will not give away because uncovering it was just too amazing! I loved how these friends navigated into the love zone and found a life together. Nicely written and the characters, both the main and side, are fun and interesting to read about. The entire series is a great experience!
Enjoyed reading this emotional book with both good and sad. Nick returns to Twin Oaks after a ten year absence and reconnects with his long time friend Rae. As he spends time with Rae and her son Rowdy they bond and soon these friends turn to lovers but not without some twists in the story along with some hilarious situations.
I truly love this Twin Oaks series. Each book can be read as a stand alone, but they are more fun when read together. This book is the story of Rae and Nick who have been best friends since they were in diapers. Unfortunately their friendship was torn apart and they have gone ten years without any contact. Now Nick is moving back home to Twin Oaks and the first person he sees is Rae. From then on, it is like the ten year gap never happened, but neither of them knows how to get out of the “friend zone” and into the “potential mate” zone. Until one night when Nick has invited Rae and her son, Rowdy to hang out with him at his house and he comes home to find his crazy stalker cooking in his kitchen. Nick has to leave and go to the police station, but talks Rae into staying until he gets back. Rae and Rowdy wind up falling asleep and Nick carries Rowdy to a guest room and when he goes to carry Rae, she awakens and things get physical. From there their relationship continues to grow, until Rae’s past rears its ugly head and has to be dealt with for there to ever be a happy future for Rae, Nick and Rowdy. This book had me laughing and crying and once I started reading I didn’t quit until I reached the end and what a surprise that was. I look forward to reading the next book in the Twin Oaks series with even more hijinks and love.
I truly enjoyed reading this small town romance. It is an easy and delightful story. Nick and Desiree are wonderful characters I enjoyed reading about them. It is well written and has a wonderful storyline. It has a little bit if everything in this story. I look forward to reading more stories by this author.
I read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are of my own.
I really enjoyed reading this. From the very first word until the very last word wa read, this story had me. I could not put it down. It moved along at a great pace, which was the perfect reading speed, has amazing characters that you cannot help but fall in love with and a story that will grab you.
You need to add this amazing read to your TBR list, you will not be sorry that you did.
Great continuation of the series! Can be read as a standalone, but I prefer reading in order so I know who everyone is. The story was full of plot twists with a touch of suspense. Nick and Desiree made an excellent couple. It was heartwarming to watch their families support each other no matter what. My only reason for only giving 4 stars is because of an important bit of information Desire withheld for 10 years, a type of secret I just can’t wrap my brain around. I won’t give spoilers, but she could have prevented a lot of her own drama. I still enjoyed the book though. I absolutely love the wit and banter amongst the residents of Twin Oaks.
Another great addition to the series! Nick and Desiree have been friends from birth and in those teen/young adult years Desiree develops feelings for Nick. One night changes everything for these two. The book starts with Nick coming back to town after a long absence. Can these two friends push back any awkwardness and hurt feelings to start something new?
I really enjoyed the sense of family and everyone having each other’s backs. This is a common theme in this series, but it was amplified in this book due to a situation with Rowdy, Desiree’s son. There is a bit of twist at the end that I didn’t see coming, but had me breathing a sigh of relief. Probably not something that would happen in real life, but who knows? These kind of books are why I read, the sweet love story, a bit of turmoil to keep it interesting, and happy ending that works out perfectly for everyone. I have enjoyed every book in this series and can’t wait for more!
This is a friends-to-lovers romance but it’s also more. It’s a hilarious comedy set in a very quirky, close-knit small town. Book 4 in the Twin Oaks series it doesn’t disappoint.
Nick and Rae are trying to figure out how to be friends again … there’s so much history, there are misunderstandings, and even … danger, putting a fun spin on it.
The book’s sweet, steamy, entertaining, made me laugh out loud, and at times even a bit suspenseful. Taylor hit the nail on the head for this couple and I cannot wait for more.
