In this New York Times bestseller, a single father discovers the true nature of unconditional love when a new chance at happiness turns his world upside down. At 32, Russell Green has it all: a stunning wife, a lovable six year-old daughter, a successful career as an advertising executive, and an expansive home in Charlotte. He is living the dream, and his marriage to the bewitching Vivian is at … marriage to the bewitching Vivian is at the center of it. But underneath the shiny surface of this perfect existence, fault lines are beginning to appear . . . and no one is more surprised than Russ when every aspect of the life he has taken for granted is turned upside down.
In a matter of months, Russ finds himself without a job or a wife, caring for his young daughter while struggling to adapt to a new and baffling reality. Throwing himself into the wilderness of single parenting, Russ embarks on a journey at once terrifying and rewarding — one that will test his abilities and his emotional resources beyond anything he’s ever imagined.
When a chance encounter with an old flame tempts him to take a chance on love again, he will navigate this new opportunity with trepidation and wonder. But with the loyal support of his parents, the wisdom of his older sister, Marge, and in the hard-won lessons of fatherhood, Russ will finally come to understand the true nature of unconditional love — that it is a treasure to be bestowed, not earned.

A touching story, gently told. I’m a sucker for single-parent stories, and this one has an emotional brother/sister storyline as well. Keep the Kleenex handy!
This book is so good! ! It have me angry it had me in tears! So emotional!
Two by Two is similar to some of the author’s original works, the Notebook and A Walk to Remember. Heartbreaking, page turning, incredible story of a family. The characters are not always likeable, the situations not always pleasant, but the emotions are so real and so strong you can’t help but fall in love with the book.
I really enjoy listening to Nicolas Sparks books. How they just take you away into the story. This one had me wanting to scream and aww at the same time. Something about this book very special to me. I highly recommend this one. I will forever remember this one. Definitely adding this one to the reread list. I do want to say that I love how even through Russ was going through things he is amazing father to his daughter.
About Book:
Russ has a beautiful wife and daughter. Until he wants to start his own business. Things start to change with Russ and his whole family. Again highly recommend this book.
This is the first book I have read by Nicholas Sparks, and it just became my favorite book. It was so easy to get attached to the characters in the book, which in return made it easy for the emotional rollercoaster to take place that was beautifully portrayed.
From the very beginning I hated his wife. This book did not disappoint like all the other Nicholas Sparks books.
Slowwwwww! DNF!
The MMC was an absolute doormat. It’s one of those books where I kept getting frustrated, TALK TO EACH OTHER!!!
The little girl was the only reason I kept reading as long as I did. I made it to fifty percent, but just couldn’t go on.
On the plus side, I went ahead and downloaded another of Sparks’ books, “See Me,” and so far, I’m really enjoying it.
Sparks’ books are hit or miss for me. I only like about fifty percent of them, but I keep coming back because the ones I like, I really like!
extremely sad
A wonderful story of family, new beginnings, and second chances at love after heartache.
One of Nicholas Sparks best novels!
Not one of his best.
It was a good read. I haven’t read Nicholas Sparks in a couple of years a found it different than his previous books
Nicholas Sparks does a great job of bringing characters to life. With all of their flaws, he weaves a story that can be tragic to watch unfold. But with patience, we are able to see growth and perseverance of the characters. A very good read.
Slow reading
I have already recommended this book to all of my friends who enjoy reading as much as I do.
Love every book he’s written.
A winner – as always with Nicholas Sparks!
Thoroughly depressing and predictable — I almost cried a few times. What was I thinking? Reading a book like this at this stage in my life.
The little girl’s name irritated me — I’d see the word “London” and think of the city in England, then realize: no, it’s his daughter.
It’s been years since I read a Nicholas Sparks book and now I remember why.
So. Many. Tears.
I have mixed feelings about this book. I like the way it resolves, but would have loved to see Russ grow more as a character. Even though he tells the story (and it’s HIS story) he just sort of sits back and let’s his wife dictate how things will turn out. When things are good, it’s because Vivian decides they’ll be good. He felt like a bit of a pushover, but it apparently works for him. I do wish, however, that the book had been a bit shorter. There were a lot of fun stories within the larger story, but I often just wanted him to get to the point and show what was happening in that moment (instead of starting each chapter with a story about the past).
I appreciate so much that Sparks keeps his books clean. It’s nice to be able to listen to the audio book and not have to worry about other people hearing something inappropriate when they walk into the room.
Overall, though, this is was a decent book. There are no surprises and it drags a bit, but if you need a good cry, I highly recommend it.
An enjoyable read about a man learning to be a full-time father while rebuilding his life. It has beautiful moments of family interaction and explores the delicate dynamics of families in crisis and in occasions of joy.
It’s not a book I’ll be shouting about from the rooftops, but it was tender, funny at times, and a welcome break from some of the more intense, and sometimes quite upsetting fiction I’ve been reading lately!
