Lucas Davenport confronts an old nemesis, now a powerful U.S. senator, in this thrilling #1 New York Times-bestselling new novel in the Prey series.Lucas Davenport had crossed paths with her before.A rich psychopath, Taryn Grant had run successfully for the U.S. Senate, where Lucas had predicted she’d fit right in. He was also convinced that she’d been responsible for three murders, though he’d … she’d been responsible for three murders, though he’d never been able to prove it. Once a psychopath had gotten that kind of rush, though, he or she often needed another fix, so he figured he might be seeing her again.
He was right. A federal marshal now, with a very wide scope of investigation, he’s heard rumors that Grant has found her seat on the Senate intelligence committee, and the contacts she’s made from it, to be very…useful. Pinning those rumors down was likely to be just as difficult as before, and considerably more dangerous.
But they had unfinished business, he and Grant. One way or the other, he was going to see it through to the end.

Great holiday reading over the long weekend! Twisted Prey is the ultimate page-turner and a classic Sandford novel, with Davenport wining the ultimate chess match. I’m a huge Sandford fan and I never miss a new release.
The one that got away is back with a vengeance. We first saw Taryn Grant in Silken Prey, and considering the circumstances in that one, Lucas is more than happy to be on her trail again – this time as a US Marshall.
In addition to Lucas, we get to revisit with some favorites from the series, both old and new. Naturally, we get some time with the family, including Lettie. Bob and Rae, the Marshall’s version of Jenkins and Shrake, are back and we even get a bit of Kidd when Lucas is need of internet help. Add in a couple of peeks at Del and Virgil and a lot of the gang is covered.
Twisted Prey takes off pretty quickly with a not so accidental car crash that has Lucas sniffing around Washington DC. The tension rapidly builds from there with political intrigue, murder, and some shady deals from our bad guys and as the body count rises, so does the danger. With lots of action and plenty of twists to keep a reader guessing, along with a conclusion that is classic Lucas Davenport, this one is absolutely unputdownable.
An excellent addition to the tales of Lucas Davenport.
I can’t believe this is the 28th book in the Prey Series!!!! I have loved all of them with the exception of one, Silken Prey. Maybe I was expecting too much of Sandford to have every book wrap up at the end with a pretty little bow, but after over 20 books, it’s exactly what I wanted but didn’t get, until now.
In book 23, Lucas went up against Taryn Grant, a wealthy, narcissistic, psychopathic would-be politician. The thing that I didn’t like about Silken Prey was that Ms. Grant seemingly got away with everything that she had done. Now fast forward to Lucas being a Marshall and he gets a call from Senator Smalls to help find out who tried to assassinate him. Senator Smalls suspects now-Senator Grant. This is Lucas’ opportunity to catch the bad guy that got away.
This book has everything that I love about Sandford’s writing: suspense, witty dialogue, some of my favorite characters, and a storyline that kept me riveted from start to finish. I do miss Shrake and Jenkins’ cameos in the Prey Series but Rae and Bob have been an awesome addition to this series.
John Sandford is at the top of my list of favorite authors. Twisted Prey was as good as all the rest. With the current political environment, the shenanigans (well, that’s far too light a descriptor) in the book are all-too believable.
Another great Prey novel by John Sanford. I highly recommend it. The entire series is unputdownable!
I enjoy reading the “Prey” series of Sandford. They’re always suspenseful and attention grabbing with great characters with deep traits. Although you have an idea of the villian- sometimes I’m wrong.
Lots of old friends and an old enemy show up in this one. Second book of Lucas being a Marshall, two years after he started. Assassination attempt, Lucas gets too close, someone attacks Weather to draw Lucas off, people die. Really good story, but a little scary to think any of this could be going on, but you know it is.
Some really scary operators in this one. Lucas is almost out of his league, but then he isn’t. Loved the ending. Yesssss!
John Sandford is always at the top of his game, as usual.
Awesome
Good reading. Couldn’t put it down for the last 100 pages
Twisted Prey plunges Lucas back into the treacherous political world where murder seems to be the only way to take out an opponent. Taryn Grant—the wealthy psychopath from Silken Prey—is still a major contender for the presidency, so when Senator Porter Smalls barely survives an attempted assassination, it’s not hard for Lucas to suspect who’s behind it. Even though Lucas and his backup—Rae and Bob—team up with the FBI, they still have trouble getting ahead of the body count while facing off with Taryn and her band of special ops thugs. This book was a fast and entertaining read but missing some of the emotional connections of Sandford’s earlier plots. However, I still found it worth the time invested.
You can’t go wrong with any book by John Sandford (whose real name I think) is John Camp), virtually all of whose books I’ve read.
Another great book in this series
Complete waste of time
Got Woke so now s/b BROKE(n)
Great series from a great writer. Read them all.
Love the entire series
John Sandford is a great writer and his books have good plots, well-thought-out story lines, and relatable characters.
I enjoy reading the “Prey” series and Sanford doesn’t let me down with this one. The political side of this is scary to a point of ‘could happen today’ kind of scenarios. Crooked politicos are not something ‘made up’…they are real. This maybe didn’t get the ‘legal’ justice that was deserved, but the ending suited me just fine. Sorry Weather had to be involved. Looking forward to the next Davenport saga. Or Virgil Flowers 🙂
this book was a really good read. I kinda expected the ending but the twist at the end through me for a loop . he is a great writer
